Folk's Folly Prime Steak House
Native son Humphrey Folk, Jr. was a prominent and shrewd developer, whose hard work carried him all over the country, cultivating his sincere appreciation of food and fine wine.
Undaunted by a complete lack of restaurant or culinary experience, he decided to convert a quaint and intimate house into a small eatery. His peers offered little encouragement, so he added the word “folly” to his own name, and Memphis’ Original Prime Steak House was born.
With only a gentleman's handshake to signify agreement, Humphrey Folk welcomed famed Memphis restaurateur Thomas Boggs as managing partner of Folk's Folly in 2003.
This partnership built the bridge to the next generation and Folk's Folly Prime Steak House remains a family affair.
Lightly battered in seasoned flour, fried crisp and finished with a slightly spicy ancho chili mayonnaise
I hate to do this, because I never do. We might still give them another chance just because of how good the actual food was. We walk in the door and immediately feel awkward. The greeters don’t even smile or make you feel like you’re at a 5 star restruant. My boyfriend and I get sat in the loudest possible area of the whole restruant. After 5 minutes someone speaks to us and we ask to get moved, we finnally get greeted and moved after a while. We weren’t celebrating anything but it wouldn’t have mattered if we were, all we were asked is if we wanted any drinks. Being a server at another 5 star restruant, I was very disappointed with the greet alone. I still tried my best to give them the benefit of the doubt. It was my first time dining and it was never acknowledged. It seemed as if no one was paying attention to us. Another server got our drink order apparently but we didn’t receive our drinks until 25 minutes after we ordered them. We finished our calamari before we even received our drinks that we ordered before the calamari. A server who wasn’t even taking care of us crumbed our table and brought us silver ware( the only time either of those things happened). The only highlight of the meal was the lemon drop and the filet and ribeye. Our potato’s were cold. We asked for the potato’s and mac and cheese to be boxed up, waited and never received them or heard from our server after we paid for them. Again we are not the type of people to give someone a hard time but also felt like this needed to be addressed because 250 dollars is a lot of money to spend on Chili’s grade service.
Food was great. Wait staff was professional. We really enjoyed our dinner. Everyone at the restaurant made the night very enjoyable.
Food was good for the most part, would have been nice to actually received what was ordered.
Just lovely. Everything about it was pure bliss!!!
We had a wonderful waitress and a large rowdy table next-door... not really where we would ever wanted to be seated for a date night! Food was delicious:))
It was awesome! We loved it! Will be back for more.
Steak was amazing. Rose was our waitress, and she was fantastic. Manager came by the table twice! Husband got the shrimp, and it fell a little short of his expectations. Definitely stick with steak. She crab soup was very rich, thick, and creamy. Key lime pie was ok since I prefer mine a little more tart.
60th and 30th birthday
Absolutely outstanding! The best filet mignon I have ever had in my life, cut like butter and tasted even better. I had the sweet potato mash and my friend had the au gratin, both were amazing. We both had cheesecake for dessert, mine with a blueberry compote on top. So, so good, the blueberries had fresh mint added to them and the whipped cream on top was scratch made.
We visited Folk’s Folly for my girlfriend Mikayla’s 26th birthday. The crew at Folk’s Folly went above and beyond to make her feel special and present us with a fabulous evening. We will be back! Amazing.
To celebrate life
Enjoyed my wife’s birthday and this was an excellent choice and experience. From upon entering, during dinner and as we left we were treated with outstanding service. The food was excellent also. We definitely will be returning and with friends.
The food was very good! This may be one of the 3 best steaks I've ever had. We did receive the wrong sides, the waitress seemed to not be able to remember what we asked for. The sides themselves were bland, unlike the main course, which was packed with flavor. The price was what you would expect from a higher end place, but this place falls off a little on that end. Having been to many high end steakhouse, the majority of the interior here fits the bill, but the room we were in seemed almost like an addition. The room was bright with pictures on the wall you would expect to only find at a place masquerading as high end. Overall I would not hesitate to recommend going here for a special occasion! 4.5/5 stars.
Another fantastic experience! Folks Folly never disappoints!
If you have a special occasion to celebrate, Folk's Folly is the best place for your celebration dinner.
The lamb chops and foie gras butter was to die for. Our server cliff was amazing!
Folk's Folly was a great experience... went there with a friend for our birthdays. The food was outstanding and the service was excellent. It was a great way to celebrate!
Cliff did a great job taking care of me during my recent visit. The food was excellent.
Lack of attention to details is a problem here. There was an electrical panel on the wall near our table and it was hanging open throughout our meal. Not a big deal but it demonstrates a lack of awareness of small things that impact a dining experience. My wife ordered the she crab soup, a favorite at other restaurants, and did not care for it, leaving it almost untouched. The server who cleared it from the table did not even notice. We shared a crab cake appetizer, without plates, and I found a hair in mine. I pointed it out to our server who was a bit flustered. I suggested she bring it to the attention of the chef. We were promised fresh bread... it never arrived. The steaks and sides we had were all good, but the bread pudding was not memorable.
I enjoyed the food, and the servers. I didn't like the area we was seated at because it was dark to where you couldn't read your menu, or take pictures.
Absolutely amazing!!! Our server was top notch and the food was to die for.
The pre-birthday dinner we had at Folk’s Folly was very nice. This was a birthday treat from a friend that made it even nicer. We’re able to get a private room which calmed my wife down from the pandemic jitters and made her enjoy the dinner more. Our server, Dana was very attentive. She’s very knowledgeable about the menu items. And the food was really, really good. We went easy and slow on the bread and the calamari appetizers as we were advised to do by the friend who gave us the gift card. Just the same, by the time the main course arrived, we’re almost full to capacity. Not a big fan of catfish beignet. Got curious by the name but disappointed by its ordinary taste. Enjoyed the very tasty steak. Superb garlic baked potato. And because it’s my birthday and the staff knew about it, I had a complimentary birthday cake. It was a nice gesture. We had some take-out leftovers good for another meal.
The food and service was excellent! I would highly recommend this steakhouse!
Service made us feel special. Food makes us feel spoiled. Great!
My husband and I had a good first time experience here. The food was delicious but we both thought there was a little too much butter in our food. The menu clearly states that you can ask for less butter & we will do that next time. Nobody’s mistake but ours. Other than that the food was amazing! I had the petite filet & jalapeño 3 cheese Mac and my husband had the ribeye with onion rings & twice baked potato. Our waiter was very attentive, friendly, and helpful. When we both ordered a twice baked potato he informed us that the sides were served kind of family style in case we wanted to change it up. We did & were happy with that decision. It was just enough between the 2 of us but would not be enough for more than that. I eat pretty small portions so someone with a large appetite would not be satisfied sharing. The waiter packed our deserts and leftovers to go & we enjoyed the deserts after we got home. The key lime pie & creme brûlée we’re top notch. I took 1 star off because I wasn’t impressed with the area they sat us in. It was a small room towards the back with 5 tables of couples and it seemed a little too quiet. I caught myself overhearing conversations at other tables without trying to and feeling like I needed to talk quietly. The valet driver was friendly & even snapped a picture for us. Overall we were pleased & will be back!
Service was superb
Food was well prepared. The wine was exquisite. The waiter was very knowledgeable about menu and specials. Only problem, young man helping waiter kept trying to take our plates before we were done. It happened with appiterzers, dessert, and my meal as well.
The steaks were cooked to perfection. Our server ‘Shanna’(sp) was delightful- wonderful night of great food and dining in our favorite steak house!
It was amazing
Everything was GREAT !!! We eat there often but always on special occasions.
Excellent experience! The staff was very attentive & friendly. Perfect setting to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary!
Celebrated our 32nd wedding anniversary. Food and service was excellent.
Folks Folly never ceases to impress! Been there over a dozen of times through business travels and have never seen a drop off in quality. If you are ever in Memphis for a visit I highly recommend. Best steaks in the southeast
Loved our server. Folks Folly is a mainstay in Memphis fine dining.
Very great choice in the Memphis area for fine dining and amazing steak, we were very happy.
Food and service left us speak less. We be going to Folk Folly’s instead of Ruth Chris from now on.
Great experience! Greg was one of the best waiters I’ve ever had. My fiancé and I were very pleased.
It was my husband’s birthday.
Great experience loved the food
