Folk's Folly Prime Steak House
Native son Humphrey Folk, Jr. was a prominent and shrewd developer, whose hard work carried him all over the country, cultivating his sincere appreciation of food and fine wine.
Undaunted by a complete lack of restaurant or culinary experience, he decided to convert a quaint and intimate house into a small eatery. His peers offered little encouragement, so he added the word “folly” to his own name, and Memphis’ Original Prime Steak House was born.
With only a gentleman's handshake to signify agreement, Humphrey Folk welcomed famed Memphis restaurateur Thomas Boggs as managing partner of Folk's Folly in 2003.
This partnership built the bridge to the next generation and Folk's Folly Prime Steak House remains a family affair.
Traditional steakhouse in every way. Everything is just a half step down from the top restaurants in town except the prices. Good time, good place but not great. Sides a little boring, steaks good, clearly prime but never anything to write home about.
My husband and I went for my birthday and had such a great experience. They went above and beyond to make sure our night was special. The food was amazing and the service was just as good. The food is definitely pricey, but we will be back for a special occasion.
Outstanding. Very courteous staff. Food was fantastic.
It was a very pleasant experience. Absolute fine dining !
Our group was in town for a convention and we chose this restaurant for it's menu and tradition. We were not disappointed. Our orders included appetizers (some said the best calamari they've ever had), a good mix of steak and seafood main courses, and dessert. All was fabulously prepared and presented. And a fantastic liquor and wine list! We all enjoyed it thoroughly.
Excellent as always. Comfortable atmosphere. Very attentive service. Food is excellent and perfectly prepared.
Nice atmosphere food was okay. The service was excellent!!
Our waiter, Alvis, was exceptional!! Thank you all for this, our 1st dining experience at your restaurant, wonderful! We will be back! Thank you all!! XOXO
Such a quaint place to celebrate, have a dinner date, drinks or enjoy the piano bar area. Never disappointed in the selections , service or food. Staff is very professional and goes above all to please.
We had a terrible experience with a over cooked stake
This was our first time visiting after seeing it on Facebook. The staff were very friendly from when walked in. Kevin, our waiter was tremendous. Kevin had a great personality and was very inviting. Kevin was a complete professional. This is definitely a five star establishment. We will be back.
Great food and service.
We were there celebrating my husbands birthday and everything was wonderful.
Food was great and the service was above expectations
Our steaks were fabulous and the sides were cooked and lightly seasoned, spot-on! The bread pudding with scotch sauce was a real treat as was the lovely service!
We went to try the Lamb trio which was ok. The rack of lamb was very good. The sea bass was over cooked and the veal was bland. The desserts were delicious. We enjoyed the private room which enabled us talk without raising our voices. We also loved that the light switch was in the room and that we could make it brighter. So we thank you very much for seating us there.
Very accommodating. Celebrated my husband’s birthday with family. We had a private room and our waitress, Tia, was awesome! Definitely recommend this place!!!
Great steaks, cocktails and wine list. Wedge salad was gigantic. Service could not have been better. Only reason I left off a star is for the interior. The restaurant is in need of a remodel, as it is very 1990s on the inside, and beginning to feel almost...tacky?
But great food. We will be back, like always.
So glad to have this hometown gem in our midst! Our server Chelsea was AWESOME, and that description doesn’t come to mind often!! The wine by the glass list was a bit sparse, tho, with wild price swings among the few selections.
We had not been in 40 years, but we’ll surely be back!!!
We had the she-crab and French onion soup. Both delicious. We had the spinach salad and half wedge. Main meal we split the cowboy ribeye and a lobster tail. For sides we had the twice baked potato and spinach casserole. For dessert we did the sampler with about three bites of each: pecan pie, brownie, cheesecake, bread pudding, and key lime pie. Ashley our server was attentive, and the waitstaff was prompt. Can’t wait to go again!
We visit this restaurant several times per year. It is the best steakhouse in Memphis in our opinion and we have been to all of them. The steaks are always cooked as requested and the sides are very tasty. The wait staff is friendly and professional
My wife and I were looking for a place to have something different than barbeque which is excellent in Memphis. After looking at several different sites, I found that Folks Folly was rated the best steakhouse in Memphis. It did not disappoint, the steaks were as good as I have had anywhere. The salads were a nice size. The sides were enough for two to share and well done. In sum, it is one of the best steakhouses I have been to anywhere, including Chicago, New York, LA and San Francisco.
Best steak in town. Great service, our waitress was very attentive and friendky.
Great experience. Enjoyed everything. Food was great. Servers were awesome. Private room was great.
Purpose of our visit was to celebrate two birthdays at dinner. Three of four 8 oz filets were incorrectly cooked. Server didn’t voluntarily offer to remedy the problem. This restaurants typical birthday dessert was not offered to us. When asked server said he had forgotten. Then walked away dismissively. Overall experience/food was not worth the cost.
The food and service were excellent. I highly recommend Folk’s Folly.
Anne was our waitress. She did a wonderful job of caring for our dinner requests. It was our 49th Anniversary and she helped to make it memorable.
We always enjoy our experience at Folk’s Folly. It was our daughter’s birthday, and she always request FF. As usual, you didn’t disappoint.
I love everything about the restaurant, making reservations, valet parking, the sitting, all was fantastic
Steak was over cooked and my chicken came out with the wine sauce on it after i ordered it on the side. They took it back and brought it back within 3 minutes and I could tell they just washed the sauce off. Chicken had a very strange texture and tasted horrible.
Great wait staff. We were celebrating our wedding anniversary and they acknowledged it immediately. They also provided a complementary dessert as a result.
Always fabulous - an East Memphis landmark and the first true steakhouse since the Embers closed. Gotta start with the fried pickles with remoulade.
Great great experience!!. Had a loud table next to us trying too hard to act important and really annoyed all around them. Good news is they were way out of place. This is a phenomenal steak joint where you go to spend time with the person(s) you wish to dine with and the servers really take care of you. My advice to first timers here; act like you have dined at an establishment like this before otherwise go somewhere else. Expensive but they pamper you well!
Outstanding service, great atmosphere and delicious food!
Food was great and service as average. Steak was cooked perfectly. My only concern was that we were seated in the back with 3 parties that had 10-12 people. It was very loud and difficult to enjoy the meal.
Very nice, old-fashioned service restaurant. My steak was prepared exactly as ordered. I'll return...
Folk's Folly continues to be one of my favorite places in Memphis. Best steaks in town! Very friendly & professional service.
Great meal. Celebrating our 35th wedding anniversary.
The restaurant was very noisy. So noisy, people around us moved tables. We did not enjoy ourselves because of the noise level.
Delicious appetizers, steak, sides and desserts. The fish was very dry. Would recommend booking early to get a private dining room. We were placed by a party of 10 young adults who were so loud we couldn't have a discussion at our table once they arrived. Very frustrating for a restaurant of this caliber.
Chelsea was an absolute delight! The food took a little longer than I’d hoped, but it was definitely worth the wait. Great food, service, atmosphere...worth every penny!
