The Folk’s Folly story began in 1977 with unconventional origins, as the best stories often do.

Native son Humphrey Folk, Jr. was a prominent and shrewd developer, whose hard work carried him all over the country, cultivating his sincere appreciation of food and fine wine.

Undaunted by a complete lack of restaurant or culinary experience, he decided to convert a quaint and intimate house into a small eatery. His peers offered little encouragement, so he added the word “folly” to his own name, and Memphis’ Original Prime Steak House was born.

With only a gentleman's handshake to signify agreement, Humphrey Folk welcomed famed Memphis restaurateur Thomas Boggs as managing partner of Folk's Folly in 2003.

This partnership built the bridge to the next generation and Folk's Folly Prime Steak House remains a family affair.

My entree (that cost over $150) was so dry and over cooked. A hot plate is nice but not when it continues to cook your steak. Also the sizzling butter spattered all over the front of the dress I was wearing. My husband’s chop was also dry and over cooked. Sadly, the colossal onion rings were also disappointing. The onion seemed undercooked. I expected it to be much more tender. It required a fork and knife to cut them but they were essentially inedible. Maybe it was a bad night for them but when a dining experience of that price and hype fails, I’m unlikely to return.

We have been here a couple of years ago and it was great This time it was not! The pickle chips($8 for 8 pickle chips) were over cooked and really dark brown The calamari was also over fried, dark and hard The parmesan bread I ordered was almost to tough to eat The folly's tidbits were good and tender The double wedge salad was good like last time The lobster tail was tasty but $110 for a lobster tail is to much The tomahawk steak was seasoned well and tasty The ribeye was good also The shoestring potatoes were smaller portion than last time and were greasy The service was good as you would expect in a high dollar restaurant There was butter on the table but no bread was given to the table. I was told when I changed our reservation from 4 to six that the tip would be added, but when we arrived our party was changed back to 4 people but the tip was still added to the bill. I am a good tipper and don't mind that 18% was added but was not looking for that to be on the bill and one could have over looked it and added a additional tip so disappointed!!

Celebrating anniversary.. 2 other couples were also celbrating and seated in same area then a loud table of six was seated in the midst of us. Definitely dampened the atmosphere. Food was piping hot. Lamb chops were slightly overcooked (i asked for medium) but very tasty and I ate them all! Hubby had surf and turf and old fashioned cocktail. Cocktail was watery and upon receiving check we did think 100 dollars for a lobster tail was excessive. Restaurant bit overrated compared to comparable steakhouses where we have dined.

This was our first time here. We were celebrating my son finishing college and turning 21! It was absolutely delicious and loved the atmosphere! It's very expensive, but I will definitely be back for special occasions!

The food, and service was superb. We were celebrating my wife’s birthday, and we were looking forward to a quiet and special dinner. Unfortunately, we were seated next to a very loud & obnoxious young lady. The young lady in question, unfortunately suffered some type of medical emergency that required paramedics to come and remove her. Obviously, this was of No fault of the restaurant, but we didn’t have the intimate birthday dinner we had expected.

Very good service starting with car valet service. Wait for reserved table was not long. Our server, Mia, was spot on. Appetizer came out quickly to enjoy with our cocktails. Interesting specials and tried one and had one off the menu. A couple of sides to share with my wife and I. Sizzling hot plates for our beef steak entrees served with clarified butter. Desert and coffee were an enjoyable end of our date night meal. Portions were sufficient to generous so no complaints there. Leftovers (just a tad) were expertly wrapped and presented. A very nice dining experience.

I loved the food the fact my steak was heard sizzling on my plate made me excite. The flavor was on point. What i didnt like was my scotch one glass was 75 dollars the price of an 18 year whole bottle.
