The Folk’s Folly story began in 1977 with unconventional origins, as the best stories often do.

Native son Humphrey Folk, Jr. was a prominent and shrewd developer, whose hard work carried him all over the country, cultivating his sincere appreciation of food and fine wine.

Undaunted by a complete lack of restaurant or culinary experience, he decided to convert a quaint and intimate house into a small eatery. His peers offered little encouragement, so he added the word “folly” to his own name, and Memphis’ Original Prime Steak House was born.

With only a gentleman's handshake to signify agreement, Humphrey Folk welcomed famed Memphis restaurateur Thomas Boggs as managing partner of Folk's Folly in 2003.

This partnership built the bridge to the next generation and Folk's Folly Prime Steak House remains a family affair.

Birthday’s and you can’t go wrong when you have service like the service we got from Shauna. This is the second time we have had hers our server, and it was such a pleasure. She has a very good personality and very personable with her service to her guest. The food was excellent, cooked to perfection and delivered by professionals.

The sides were excellent. The steak was prepared well, but the meat quality was disappointing. The service was uninspired. We were constantly waiting for our drinks to be filled and dishes to be cleared overall an average experience, and not what you would expect for a four person $500 meal.

This is a must! From calling and booking our reservation, the host offering a private room for the birthday dinner, arriving and checking in, the manager sat us him self, the waiter and all the staff making sure our drinks were full at all times, oh and hunny the dinner was fabulous. I love steak sauce however it would have been disrespectful to use any. Thank you to the whole establishment for making our evening wonderful! PS. I brought a Birthday cake and forgot the candles and one of the host went and found me some! Thank you again!

As always, Folks Folly was a great choice for my wife's birthday. We didn't like they took away their staple caramel cake that we loved so much. Also, we noticed the managers weren't walking the floor as much as we normally see them. We really look forward to the conversation with them.

Experience was nice however the steak was not. We ordered the bone in 90 day dry aged strip. We’ve had this or similar on several occasions at other places but this was horrible! It was tough, fatty and overall very small then to receive the bill and it was $110. It’s happened to us before at Folks Folly too many times. I’ll just stick w a glass of wine and desert next time.

Summary: Folks Folly was disappointing and unfortunately did not come close to meeting expectations. My wife and I were really looking forward to our evening at Folk's Folly, we had heard a lot of good things and were looking forward to a date night after a few long weeks. Our server was friendly and the appetizer (Fried pickles) was solid. But things started going downhill quickly once we got the entrees. I'm not a very picky eater for the most part but was expecting a consistent, solid, experience for the price range. To start, the server misquoted the price on my bone-in filet. He said it was $65 so I ordered it, about 10 minutes later he came back, and said the price was actually $79. At this point, I was expecting the food any minute so it was too late to do anything. I just hoped to get a good steak! My wife and I both ordered filets cooked medium. When they arrived her's had almost no pink, it was medium well at best. Mine was rare, and cool in the center. I understand this is how many people like to eat steak! But the inconsistency of the cook was very surprising to me. I asked the server to reheat my dish just a bit, I do not like returning food but was just hoping for something a bit closer to medium or even medium rare. He took my plate and returned with it cooked well done, so hot the plate was still popping butter and grease all over the table (and ourselves). My wife and I ordered their version of an old-fashioned and a manhattan. The old-fashioned was pretty solid, but unfortunately, the manhattan appeared to be using some old vermouth, as the flavor was a bit offputting. The dessert (creme brulee) was very nice. At least a solid ending to the meal. Overall the staff was friendly, and some of the flavors were good but the lack of attention to detail, the inconsistency of the cook, and the prices (about $250) meant that I left disappointed. I wouldn't recommend Folks Folly and am disappointed it didn't live up to expectations.

Overall our experience was excellent. The waiter said he would return to see that our steaks were cooked as ordered; he did not and my companion's was "well done" not "medium-well" as ordered. I had the best Caesar Salad of my life and my steak was perfect! The garlic potato's were world class. The spinach with mushrooms - not our best choice.

Quick getting seated but long wait on food, drinks etc. Food was overly priced and every item did not have any seasoning and tasted very bland, even the dessert was horrible. We’ve been here a few times so I know this is not normal. For two dinners, two drinks and desert, it was $290 and not even worry $2. Extremely disappointed in every item we tasted. Will not be going back with these prices and the taste of food. Very upset to spend that much and nothing was good. Not sure what happened tonight. As I mentioned we’ve been here a few times but will be the last after this $300 bill that was horrible!
