Folk's Folly Prime Steak House
Native son Humphrey Folk, Jr. was a prominent and shrewd developer, whose hard work carried him all over the country, cultivating his sincere appreciation of food and fine wine.
Undaunted by a complete lack of restaurant or culinary experience, he decided to convert a quaint and intimate house into a small eatery. His peers offered little encouragement, so he added the word “folly” to his own name, and Memphis’ Original Prime Steak House was born.
With only a gentleman's handshake to signify agreement, Humphrey Folk welcomed famed Memphis restaurateur Thomas Boggs as managing partner of Folk's Folly in 2003.
This partnership built the bridge to the next generation and Folk's Folly Prime Steak House remains a family affair.
Every visit is spectacular. The food is always great and Ms. Zerlene is the best.
Best meal n Memphis. Every time I am in town with a client try to eat here. Never disappointed
From the food, to our server everything was amazing. Could not have asked for a better dinner to celebrate our 25th Wedding Anniversary!
Delicious food (all of it) and a fabulous manger we loved talking with about food and travel. They were accommodating and lovely!
Awesome dinner in the little private room food and service outstanding
Excellent food excellent drinks excellent service!
Our server was pleasant but seemed to have too many tables. Certainly not her fault but it did affect our service. Food was delicious. Everything is ala carte so it’s a bit pricey. I enjoy fine dining for the experience. I ordered the 8oz filet and paid the extra for the mushroom Demi glacé. The steak was perfectly cooked to medium rare and tender as a filet should be but lacked much flavor without the $8 demi glacé. My husband enjoyed his jumbo shrimp. We also ordered the fried pickles which were delicious and the onion rings which were just ok. For dessert we had the creme brûlée. It was very good, but this was the first time I’ve had it served chilled. All in all it was good food and good service. Our bill was $109 for the two of us. While it wasn’t a bad experience, I did expect a little better overall for the price.
Great Night Out!!!
Absolutely the best steak restaurant in Memphis! Every thing was perfect. Love me some tomahawk ribeye. Alvis took real good care of us
Folk's Folly is always a consistent business dinner with great food and service. You will never go wrong taking time to enjoy a cocktail in the lounge. The steaks are the best in Memphis. Always enjoy this restaurant and stop in every time in town.
We always celebrate special occasions at Folk’s Folly. It is always outstanding in every way.
The food was not very flavorful and both the plate and the steak were entirely too hot. Our table burned our tongues. The ambiance is very nice, though.
My lamb was very dried out.
Amazing steak, porterhouse with bone marrow butter was the best I've ever had!
While the meat, catfish beignets, and side dishes were perfect, the excellent service made the experience. Always my restaurant for special times.
As always Folk's Folly delivered on exceptional service, great food and a wonderful atmosphere. We keep coming back to celebrate special occasions and will definitely be back again.
Folks Folly has been the gold standard in fine dining in Memphis for over 40 years and it is still living up to its reputation! It’s also open on Sundays when many fine restaurants are not. Thanks Folks!
The whole experience from beginning to end was perfection. Our waiter was professional as well as witty. He had a great personality. The food was outstanding.
Living in Memphis area for 12 years now. We've eaten at Folk's Folly so many times over the years. Their steak is ALWAYS one of the best in the city. Our steaks this time was hands down the BEST we've ever eaten locally! Great service too. It's hard to beat Folk's Folly.
The lamb chops I think are the best in the City let them know Quinton said order the rack of Lamb
Everything was good other than it was freezing in the restaurant
The atmosphere was positive and made for an enjoyable evening. Our servers were knowledgeable and attentive, but were not overbearing. The food was outstanding; served hot. I would recommend this to anyone especially on a special occasion.
We had a very enjoyable dining experience. I let them know I would be proposing to my girlfriend during the dinner, so they put us in a private room.
I had planned a romantic dinner for my girlfriend on her birthday. The staff from top to bottom was awesome! From the moment we were greeted till the moment we left we felt like we were getting special treatment. The attention we received was just outstanding! My girlfriend couldn’t stop smiling. We were both happy dining here. Great experience! We’ll definitely be back!
Took my granddaughter and her parents to Folk’s for her 12th birthday. The gold balloons on her chair and fab birthday cake added special touches. There are many good steak houses in Memphis but I will always choose Folk’s Folly!
We had an awesome night here. Amazing food and service. We will be back soon.
Absolutely wonderful experience! Great food! Can’t wait to go back!
My date and I both ordered our steaks medium; mine was almost well-done, while hers was medium rare, at most. My steak had little flavor. The fried mushroom appetizers looked and tasted nothing like fried mushrooms, but like Italian meatballs. The only thing good about the food were the side dishes, which were twice-baked potato and spinach casserole, and these were very good. I was very disappointed with this meal, which was nothing like the quality meals that Folks Folly used to serve. The prices were unjustifiably high for this level of quality. Definitely not a good value for the money.
First time at Folk’s Folly was amazing! We really felt like everyone made it a point to make sure we knew they were all glad we were there! Our server Parker was phenomenal! He was very knowledgeable about the menu and gave great recommendations. My water glass was never empty and all of the staff form the minute we walked in the door were very nice! Would definitely recommend to a friend
An old soldier on the Memphis fine dining scene, Folks Folly still makes great steaks, spinach and au gratin potatoes. Service is excellent. Always a sure thing, every time, all the time.
Always a delicious and consistent place to eat a wonderful meal.
I highly recommend this restaurant!
Even when the lights went out, everyone was calm and reassuring! We were impressed with that!
Overall a fairly good experience, however the power went out right before we tried to pay. They had to write down our credit card number to run later which made me a little nervous. And we also were unable to use our VISA gift card, which was extremely disappointing. Not the restaurant's fault about the power outage, but the payment issues kind of ruined our evening.
Good food and good service
One of my fav places. great food, service. Superb wine list. I love the relaxed feel of this place .
Food was okay. Not as expected. I’ve been to many prime steakhouses and the reason I can was because they said they had a wagyu tomahawk ribeye that I wanted to try.
When I asked the server what kind of wagyu, she said it wasn’t Japanese or Australian, but it was American? I’ve never heard of American wagyu.
I ordered it anyways and it looked great but tasted like USDA Choice. It was okay but I will only go back when they have A5 Wagyu’s from now on.
The BEST Steak you will find in and around Memphis - awesome food, staff, and ambiance. Would highly recommend!
Visited for an anniversary dinner. Everyone who greeted us wished us a happy anniversary. Service was excellent. The calamari appetizer was outstanding. My filet was cooked perfectly (medium) but was a little dry and not evenly seasoned. The first few bites were bland, the last few a bit more salty. For the price, I've had better steaks. Crab cakes were excellent as were the side dishes (sauteed spinach and au gratin potatoes). Our server surprised us with a complimentary small caramel cake to recognize our anniversary--quite a nice touch.
Overall, a very good experience. We will certainly return although I may select a different steak next time.
Not worth the prices
