Folk's Folly Prime Steak House
Native son Humphrey Folk, Jr. was a prominent and shrewd developer, whose hard work carried him all over the country, cultivating his sincere appreciation of food and fine wine.
Undaunted by a complete lack of restaurant or culinary experience, he decided to convert a quaint and intimate house into a small eatery. His peers offered little encouragement, so he added the word “folly” to his own name, and Memphis’ Original Prime Steak House was born.
With only a gentleman's handshake to signify agreement, Humphrey Folk welcomed famed Memphis restaurateur Thomas Boggs as managing partner of Folk's Folly in 2003.
This partnership built the bridge to the next generation and Folk's Folly Prime Steak House remains a family affair.
We had a beautiful evening. We loved every single morsel we ordered. The Calamari was perfection. Our Garlic Ribeye was everything we wanted, cooked exactly how each of us requested. I ordered the cream spinach, along with the bread, I literally could have made that my whole meal. I was happy to see a very reasonably priced Cabernet on the wine list that paired beautifully with my steak. We did not expect to order desert, but the four of us just had to! It did not disappoint. The ambiance was lovely, elegant piano playing in the background. Our waiters were attentive yet unintrusive. It made us feel so intimate, it felt as if the four of were the only ones in the restaurant.
I order my steak medium and got medium well, service was a little slow but okay, I expect more for the price I was paying.
Excellent meal and service.
Greg was our waiter. Very professional and precise
First time eating at this establishment, we will be back. We were the first to arrive and were early. We thought since we had let the young lady at the counter know we were there, that we were checked in. They started seating and realized we needed to check back in. Besides that, it was great experience.
Every time we visit Folk's Folly we are pleased. We had a wonderful dinner celebrating my husband's birthday! Our server Rose was the best! Thank you!
Delicious food! Our waitress was amazing! Food was top notch, and all of the wait staff are incredible!
Great service excellent food and wine.
The crab cakes were doughy with very little crab in them. Won't reorder them The steaks were delicious and cooked perfectly. Spinach casserole tasted so good. We were over the moon for the Bleu Mountain chips. Best caramel cake ever. The best brownie, as well.
Service was great. Manger stopped by our tables a few times, making sure everything was delicious and making us feel at ease for being one of the last few in the restaurant. Try the lamb and martinis!!
Most expensive meal my wife and I have ever had. But it was a special occasion and well worth the cost.
Impeccable service. Food was all very good except the Tidbits appetizer. Chewy and not tasty. But everything else was delicious.
Amazing wine list and Carlos is very knowledgeable about wine. The food and options were great. Calamari was the best calamari I’ve ever had. Recommend highly.
Food wasn't as good as all the hype. For an expensive steak house the cook should know how to cook a ribeye med. My first ribeye was well done and the second was rare. For $48 it should have been right the first time. No offense but I can do better with my big green egg and a ribeye from Kroger.
As always a very good experience.
The establishment was nice however the food wasn't good. I ordered the sweet mashed potatoes they were burnt. My boyfriend ordered the chicken the sauce was horrible and the chicken was very dry. Spinach casserole was bland. Just not good..
Great as always
I have dined at Folks Folly for probably 35 years and it never fails to be a delightful dining experience. The food is always excellent as is the service. I also love that I can actually enjoy conversations with my dining mates since there is no loud music blaring. It has been and will continue to be our go to restaurant for special celebrations and for times when we just want to treat ourselves.
Food was outstanding, as always. Being seated in the back room gives a quiet atmosphere that is almost too quiet and you feel weird for talking above a whisper. This night, however, was interrupted by four belligerent guests seated near my table halfway through the meal. One of them was so loud and obnoxious that every other table in the room kept looking over at them, probably wondering when management would take care of it. They never did. Wait staff acted as though their behavior was normal, even as the hysterical laughter and foul language burst through the air. I was embarrassed for everyone, and it ruined the evening. We skipped dessert just so we could get out of there as quickly as possible. Too expensive of a meal to have to endure it in that kind of setting. Disappointed in management.
Waitress awesome. Booked reservations ahead 4 weeks
As an old Memphis establishment, this steakhouse continues to deliver the goods. In 20+ years I have never had poor service nor a bad meal. Their staff is super attentive, courteous and knowledgeable. You can say the same for the kitchen as they always deliver a fine steak cooked to perfection. Recommend you book ahead as it is a poplar place.
Great food and service. Prices are expensive but you get what you pay for.
Took my fiancé for his birthday and it was wonderful! Food and recommendations were great, will definitely be back.
Everything was amazing. Our waitress was the nicest waitress I have ever had anywhere. The sweet potatoes were the best I have ever had.
Great environment. Very attentive servers. One side dish we got was not what we expected and they happily traded it out and brought something much faster than the stuff before
Outstanding evening out with a friend and my first time at Folly's and certainly there will be more visits.
Folly's Folly never disappoints! Service is always great and the food is remarkable.
This was a date night for my husband and I plus it was his birthday so I wanted to treat him to something special. This has always been a favorite place of mine, but I had not been there with him. The food was excellent. The service outstanding. It isn't some place we can go to every month but it will certainly not be our last time there. As a matter of fact I am planning on taking my grandsons there soon. They are 11 and 16 and I want them to experience a classy restaurant at least once a month instead of the fast food places they are used to. Thank you for making it a special evening.
Food was amazing the twice baked potato is amazing,it’s exactly what you would expect from a high end steak house
Excellent place to be with friends and enjoy an excellent meal. Best steak in town.
Celebrated my sons birthday. The food was excellent as was the service.
The private dining was wonderful for a celebration. My husband is hard of hearing and we felt like we were at home, nice and quiet. The service was impeccable. Two waiters, to serve and clean up. Food was hot and delicious. No one was trying to hurry us. It was fantastic. Thanks for the balloons and the birthday cake was spectacular. A bit of humor when the candle would not blow out! Thanks, callie bolyard.
Fantastic. Great food, atmosphere, service - I'll be back.
The employees were all hands on and helpful.
We enjoyed every minute. It was our first time there the wait staff was very informative our food was delicious we will most definitely go again soon.
Enjoyed my overall experience. The wait staff was excellent and the food was superb.
This is a subperb place to eat. Great food. Great waitstaff.
It was my wife’s birthday and we were celebrating it with two good friends. It was the first nice restaurant that I took my then girlfriend out for dinner 30 years ago. Still the beat steak and service in Memphis! No one comes close!
