Florio Ratings and Reviews
Good neighborhood bistro. The host was very congenial, and the bartender accommodated a request for a non-alcoholic drink. The service was on the slow side, and the food was good, but nothing memorable. It was quite noisy (Saturday night) - we couldn't talk across the table to each other.
I think I would go back again. The bucatini with meatballs was really delicious! So were our ravioli with sage and bacon. Our pastas looked better than the protein entrees we saw go by, but the salads (raw zucchini, and cesar) looked really yummy. We arrived at 7 and the noise level wasn't too bad. By 8 PM it was getting really hard to hear each other so I recommend going on the early side if you want to talk without yelling! But it was an overall positive surprise!
Food was overpriced
Steak and French fries were ok but over priced for quality and portion
A glass of wine was almost a half glass
They also add on the Healthy SF and of course expect a 20% tip
Steakhad a very small portion of greens on the plate with the small portion of fries
It is a cute place and love the location
We have been to Florio many times over the past 18 years for everyday dining and for family celebrations.. Stopped going a few years ago after a waiter insulted my husband. I decided to try it again last night. Very good food, lovely atmosphere, good cocktails and wine. No insults! A very pleasant experience.
My husband and I dined at Florio to celebrate our anniversary, and it was wonderful, as always. The menu had changed since we had been there, but there was a good choice and everything was delicious. Since it was very full the noise level was quite high, but other than that it was a wonderful meal.
Great food and friendly, efficient service. The wine selection was good and the server was knowledgeable about the offerings. It’s location on Fillmore St is convenient as a neighborhood option. A friend and I dined there twice in four days.
Doug Biederbeck, a stylish and literary bon vivant and longtime man about town in San Francisco, who created the incomparable Bix downtown on Gold Street, conjured up this homage to the Parisian brasseries he knows and loves. Florio is a gem. The food is innovative and superb, the decor welcoming, the ambiance convivial and refined, the liquor and wine list top drawer. Florio is a splendid choice for a first date, a special occasion, or simply a treat to yourself on a solitary evening. Of all the restaurants in San Francisco, it is a perennial contender for one of the most appealing.
Delicious cocktails to start. Shinto peppers - my favorite!! Salt served on the side thank you! Mine had some delicate pretty flowers floating on the top. Wine tasting to compare 2 "lunch me in the face cabs" yielded a perfect selection paired with steak and frites. Pasta dish with 2 mozzarella meatballs was just the sumptuous comfort food I craved.
Make sure to make reservations for this little gem, It starts filling up around 8:00 PM. I give high marks for their drinks from the bar while the food was delicious. Our server was attentive to our needs and had great suggestions concerning the menu. I plan to return for a second visit!
Server seemed stressed out and not very friendly or informative and not attentive. Owner was friendly. Food was not what I was expecting. Pork chop was undercooked and steak was not cooked med well but more rare. Server didn't ask if we wanted desert, he just threw the desert menu on the table. Got the impression he didn't like his job. Prices were reasonable.
Unpretentious French restaurant. I started with an excellent shredded zucchini salad, we shared a roast chicken for three that was succulent and flavored with marvelous herbs, and finished with a delicate lavender tart. The service was fast and friendly. I will return often-- it will be one of my regular restaurants-- not trendy, but cozy and delicious.
I've been wanting to try this restaurant for years after walking by during the day peeking thru the windows. Nice ambience. Took a friend here for her 60th birthday and noted that on my Open Table reservation. They remembered it and brought a full dessert with a candle. But, they charged the full price for it! This is the first time I encountered this. Usually the restaurant would comp a scoop of ice cream or something small with a cookie on it; or, put a candle with the ordered dessert.
Watermelon radish salad; good, but needed more dressing on it.
Entrees, both small portions:
squid pasta, 5 scallops with mushrooms over risotto. Both good, but better if shared for a 2nd course.
Very good service from the host to the server, to the water-girl.
Neighborhood gem that boasts interesting starters and salads and small plates. Also great pasta and larger dinner plates. Charming interior with friendly wait staff. We didn't feel criticized for only ordering a few small plates and starters with a carafe of wine, as that was all we were hungry for - they were very accommodating and friendly.
