This place was fabulous! Michael went out of his way to make sure we had a delicious and happy experience. Cute neighborhood - charming atmosphere - great wine - unbelievably great food - and really nice people! We loved it for a mixed group at a business dinner. Pasta great and short rib dinner was great!
Great food and service. One of my favorite restaurants in DC.
The pasta was amazing! I’d come back again and again.
This restaurant is very small, which makes it cozy, and full of ambiance. Our waiter Michael was great, although when we came in, no one was there to greet us ( an experience shared by the couple seated next to us). I put on my reservation that it was our anniversary and that my husband has an allergy. Our anniversary wasn't acknowledged until the couple seated next to us congratulated us. Michael hooked us up with dessert to go. But now I wonder if they took precaution with my husband's allergy? Overall the experience was great. Attention to the details would have made the night amazing!!!
Went because it was a gift. We also live in the neighborhood. Have been there several times over the years, and each time it underwhelms. That being said, our service was good. Our server was attentive and knowledgeable. Unfortunately, his efforts were not supported by the tired, boring, and fairly tasteless food. Good Italian is one of the easiest balls to knock out of the park, and I cannot figure out why Floriana does not understand that. Doesn't have to be designer or edgy. In fact, that makes it worse. Simply do the basics (risotto, pasta, sauce, fish) right and do it consistently well. Our appetizer and entrees were bland. Meh. We hedged on dessert for that reason, but went for it, anyway. Apple donuts were a questionable menu item, at best, for an 'Italian' restaurant, but they didn't even look like donuts. In fact, we thought they were subs because the kitchen had an odd run on the menu item. They were dry, barely warm - guys, it was obvious they'd been microwaved - mini-muffins that clearly had been baked hours earlier, and were seated in what could have been nothing but jarred applesauce for moisture. Come on, team. I was raised on pasta and home cooked Italian basics straight out of the garden, and my grandmother was probably rolling over in her grave at weird apple hybrids, let alone the flavorless entrees. For $150+, stop relying on the restaurant's location, and two days per week of having to discount alcohol to attract diners (it's fairly easy to see the gimmick) to get by and change a few basic things. Please. I want to see you succeed on your food, not your address or discounts! It sends a powerfully negative brand message, trust me. Send staff to any number of 14th Street restaurants for a re-orientation. There's a little Italian place called Sette Osteria that is crazy busy - in both locations. Why? Not because their food is particularly outstanding, because it isn't, but because they do some of basics really, really well.
Went for a special occasion with my date, the food was about what you'd expect at a decent Italian restaurant. Very tasty but not "out of this world". The service, while a little slow at times when it was crowded, was EXCELLENT. Our server was extremely polite and informative, and definitely made it feel like a special occasion. Ambiance was white table cloth and cozy, but not stuffy. Great for a date or small group. Would definitely go again, but wouldn't recommend the desserts.
Weekend brunch is excellent and affordable. This neighborhood gem is always a solid choice.
We celebrated my birthday and it was an excellent choice. The food and the service were excellent. The manager/owner was extremely kind and sincere. He really made the evening enjoyable and the food was amazing---loved the ravioli di zucca and caesar salad! I will definitely be coming back to this neighborhood gem!
Staff was very welcoming and efficient. They created a nice ,relaxing atmosphere. Didn't feel rushed. NIce menu and food was great.
Floriana is a cozy restaurant in a vintage townhouse. Our group of five had a delicious meal on a busy Saturday night. Great atmosphere with couples and small groups, and the noise level was perfect for table conversation. We each ordered something different and all enjoyed our entrees. The only small hitch was that our server seemed very green. He was nice though thanks and brought us what we needed. However it seemed like he was learning the ropes. Otherwise it was excellent and we would definitely return.
This was my second visit to this restaurant. I liked it so much the first time that I had to return while visiting the DC area. This visit, on a Thursday night at 7:30pm, was not as fantastic as my first.
Our server was polite and attentive enough but he did not know the menu as well. He could not offer advice based on my preferences but rather on his. When I asked about two entrees he said he would pick x over y because he wanted to have meat. He was a nice young man who will do well with more training.
The starters are very large. I did not remember this and we both ordered one -way too much.
The pasta is where this restaurant shines. Nice delicate sauces where all the flavors and ingredients are able to shine.
I enjoy trying different restaurants when I travel and rarely visit the same place twice when revisiting a city like DC where there are so many nice choices. Floriana was so good the first time that I made an exception. The meal was very good and I don’t really regret the decision.
We felt special. We had the best experience In the Downstairs bar. up stairs for privacy . The most notable Italian food. Felt like we were dining in family home
Loved the meal (appetizer and main), but being a dessert person, I felt limited!
Great Italian ambiance and food. A waiter that helped us a great deal in describing things to eat, would go back anytime in area.
Great date night spot! Cozy and delicious
The arancini was just okay this time. They changed the sauce on the plate which was too sweet and didn’t go well with the dish. Also, I ordered the lasagne for the first time and was sorely disappointed. This was an unfortunate dinner.
Absolutely the best rustic Italian meal we've ever had! The pork shank is to weep over, as is the beef short ribs. Don't miss the panacota desert. Perfect.
Really good friends get-together. Butternut squash ravioli was excellent. The only minor drawback was that I sat next to a window near the fireplace and it was quite chilly.
The food was okay. Server okay - except that he was so busy with two tables of male finders that he either forgot to submit our order or just didn’t pick it up. There was a half-hour gap between appetizers and entree. Greeter at the door was also pretty casual. In short, for the price the service is pretty horrible.
The restaurant was lovely this evening. Our server explained to us the special risotto of the evening, which I ordered, and it was outstanding. Half price wine on Sundays made it an even better value. Absolutely love Floriana.
We haven't been to Floriana in a long time and forgot how good this restaurant really is. Food and service was excellent. We'll be back!
This has become our place to eat before theater at the J with the girls.. It is a lovely, quaint dining experience. The service is wonderful, the ambiance lovely, the food delicious. Can't wait to go with my husband.
Love this restaurant, so am sorry to have to say that this is the first meal I've had there that was not totally wonderful, as is the norm. My dining partner was thrilled and commented that his dish (lasagna) was too hot to eat immediately, whereas mine was lukewarm (smoked salmon hash) except for the freshly cooked sunny side up eggs on top. Assume the hash sat there awaiting the eggs. Ended up taking the leftovers home though, where they made a terrific lunch the following day.
So delicious! Marco was great! It was fabulous from start to finish. The staff was great, the dining room was cozy and charming.
Exceptional! Food was amazing, especially the lasagna. Great smaller restaurant with incredible charm.
Celebrating a new job with friends and our server was attentive, and made great recommendations. Delicious food, cozy atmosphere, and high quality with a good value.
Perfect night dine outside and enjoy great food. The beet salad was excellent and the salmon had a wonderful lemon dill flavor. Our service was a little slow and we should have told the waiter we had a commitment after dinner, otherwise it was the perfect way to dine and relax.
Wonderful menu and delicious food and presentation. Attentive and friendly service. Lovely dining room.
It did not start well at all; we had an 8:00pm reservation and did not get seated until 8:35pm. I feel that that is completely unacceptable and indicates poor management. The saving grace for this experience was the bartender downstairs and also our server during dinner. As we waited 35 minutes for our table, we were directed to the downstairs bar which was extremely crowded. The bartender was attentive and personable; even bringing our drinks and wine out into the crowded area. Once we arrived to our table, our server was apologetic and determined that the rest of our experience would be positive. She was attentive and provided great insight into the various dishes on the menu. The food was good but the only reason I would go back is if management can get their act together and ensure that diners with reservations don’t have to wait so long to be seated.
Calamari was best we've had in awhile. Not overdue. Entrees were very good. Same for the desserts. A bit on the noisy side for easy coversation.
Whenever I go to Washington, I try to visit Floriana. The food is exceptional, the service attentive, and the overall experience very pleasant. Wait staff are well informed about both food and drink selections, the location is quite accessible, and the quality is of a high standard. In addition, their Sunday and Wednesday wine specials are a particular treat.
As always this place has great food with great mood and awesome service!
Valentines Day dinner, great menu for occasion. 4 course meal with desert, variety to choose. Very Romantic, and the service was awesome. The meal was pricey though.
Great service,great food!!
The waitress was very attentive and funny. I really enjoyed it for brunch
Overall food was pretty good, salami and cheese board was the only major flaw, butternut squash ravioli was excellent and the tortelloni mignon was quite good.
good but not great! only saw our waiter about every 30 minutes, even before we ordered and asked him to come back in a minute as we reviewed the wine menu
