Floriana Ratings and Reviews
No sooner than we walked in did we start thinking about when we could come back! What a jewel of a dining room, and what friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive staff. The food is delicious and well-priced (the lamb gnocchi were a knockout!) and the wine list is carefully curated with interesting choices in all price points. We will return OFTEN!
My husband and I brought our four sons, ages 7, 10, 13 & 16, to the District for a long weekend. Our meal at Floriana was exceptional. Each of our meals was wonderful from the lasagna to the gnocchi to the risotto. The service was very friendly and knowledgeable. We look forward to returning when in town again.
From the moment we walked in we were impressed with Floriana's. We went before theater, not knowing anything about it. Our server was outstanding, she took the time to describe the dishes and made some fabulous recommendations. Our food was presented beautifully, tasted delicious and there was enough on the plate. Highly recommend. I think this is our new go to restaurant before theater.
Food was really good. Nice size portions. Different menu, definitely not your typical Italian restaurant but delicious. Only problem for us was entering the restaurant with an elderly parent who had trouble with the stairs. No banister is a detriment. The host said that it was due to the historic nature of the building, not allowed to alter stairways.
Great food and service. Our only slight would be that the tables by the windows were awkwardly close to each other for a place as quiet as Floriana. Having less than two feet between tables at an intimate restaurant defeats the purpose of the quiet setting. However, it's not enough to keep us from coming back.
Perfect as always. My party of 4 started with an order to share two of the fruit salads. The waiter warned us it was large portioned and recommended we start with one to share as an appetizer. This was great advice and everyone got plenty and loved it. We then had one of each the Lobster Hash, Duck Hash, and Salmon Hash as well as the filet and eggs. Everyone cleaned their plate and finished with dessert. A great family get together!
We enjoyed dinner after a Sunday afternoon show at Keegan Theater for a family member's birthday. Sat in the front room near window, was great once sun finished setting. Half-price wine on Sunday evening certainly didn't hurt, especially since the full list is discounted, not just a few select bottles.
2 of our 3 diners had the lasagna, which i tasted and is quite delicious.
The squid ink pasta with lobster hit the spot for me. plenty of chunks of lobster and one full claw as well.
Service was prompt, courteous and attentive, but simultaneously not up in our business, which made for a great dining experience.
Will definitely come back when in the area, or not far from it.
Great ambiance, but the bang-for-the-buck is not there. I ordered Seafood Risotto and I got a whole bunch of Risotto with 2 shrimp and 2 scallops... for $24. Don't get me wrong, it was tasty, but for $24 they might throw-in maybe one more shrimp? The appetizers are great, the 1/2 wine off on Wednesday and Sunday are great...but the value is no longer there. This is just a general trend I've seen with this place. We stopped going there for Valentine Day specials because the price doubled while the food was shrunk in half. Looks like it's going in that direction here as well.
Had dinner here last Saturday night. Chose the place based on reviews, location, and Italian food. The environment was as described in the reviews....a brick townhouse converted into a small restaurant. When walking into the house, we both immediately had the feeling that we had entered a Halloween haunted house....based on the dark red walls, curtains, and decorations.
We had reservations for 2, and when we arrived we were placed by another 2 top that was about 3 feet away from us. This was a little close, and reduced the privacy to nothing.
The food was absolutely terrific. We both ordered the signature dish of lasagna. It was literally the best that either of us have had. Very delicious.
However, the service was poor from our waitress. She seated us and barely visited since. Being such a small place with only a dozen or so tables in total, this baffled us. Our waitress said she would bring bread out with our salads....salads arrived, no bread. After 15 minutes, we asked another waiter for bread, and it showed up immediately. But, we then had to ask for butter for the bread. Our waitress also didn't refill drinks in a timely manner, offered black pepper on our dish after we already ate half of it, and never really did her job. However, we think this is a fluke as all the other waiters we observed were doing an outstanding job...I just think we had someone of lesser quality. This did detract from the overall experience.
If you are looking for a great meal, romantic environment, and something different, then this is the place to eat.
We had a very nice meal on Saturday night. It was a special occasion for us. We were not rushed and the food was great. I had snapper and roasted cauliflower, both were very good. The salmon was reportedly also very good as was the duck breast. Tiramisu was light and delicious. Very lovely ambience on the main floor, but it was a bit too dim at our table. Will come again!
I have been before and enjoyed it, but this time left something to be desired. Ordering the eggplant dish for dinner, the plate actually only had 2 small pieces on it and was otherwise pasta. For dessert I ordered the gelato, which definitely did not seem like authentic gelato, but instead normal ice cream.
Service was terrific - attentive, informed, pleasant. Food (appetizers, main courses, wine selections, and dessert) was really quite good and arrived promptly. Noise level from time to time not so good - at one point the members of our party (there were four of us) couldn't hear each other.
My only complaint was their version of Sunday Gravy. I was expecting a bowl of house made pasta and a great tomato sauce blended with various meats broken down. What I got was a plate with a side of pente pasta covered with a bland tomato sauce, with whole meatballs, sausage, and ribs on the side. The pasta tasted store bought, as well as the tomatoe sauce. Very disappointing.
The pastas are extremely good. We also had the brussel sprouts appetizer that was delicious. The service was prompt and helpful. The only negative was the veal chop that was pricey but not that good: too salty and not meaty enough. The tiramisu was very tasty too.
Exquisite as usual. Our server was one of the best we have had. Married Brussels sprouts and lamb gnocchi were done perfectly. I gave four stars to the ambiance because the second floor lacks the cozy and intimate setting of the first floor. But, despite that, it was just what I wanted for this special occasion.
