Floriana Ratings and Reviews
We came to get lasagna for my daughters birthday. She said it was the best she’s had. All of our food was great! I especially liked the Brussel sprouts.
Michael, our waiter was incredible!! He talked to the chef and got my picky, cold, overtired son some specially made breaded chicken and was fantastic with the kids through out!
Amazing! I was trying to find an authentic Italian place for homemade pastas and this hit the spot! The arancini appetizer was amazing and the caprese used the freshest tomatoes and mozzarella. I got the vegatable risotto (with pesto) and it was incredible! Some of the best risotto. My boyfriend got the tortelloni mignon and loved it. Great date spot with a cozy, romantic atmosphere in an old row house.
Food was outstanding. We were thrilled to get Restaurant Week pricing. All three courses were delicious. The service was excellent. My only complaint was the stairway leaving up to the 2 nd floor entrance did not have a handrail and was a big precarious, especially on a rainy evening.
Food was spectacular.... Had a roast duck that was perfectly done, tender on the inside, crispy edges, perfect seasoning. Wine half price on Sundays, a bonus. Service was attentive but not intrusive. Atmosphere nice and relaxing, although tables a bit too close, hard not to hear other conversations. Strongly recommend.
Our server was delightful and gave us many good tips for food to order. Caesar salad was very good with homemade croutons and flavorful dressing. Caprese salad had fantastic house-made mozzarella but slices of tomato were mushy. Husband adored lamb ragu with potato gnocchi. One friend had the lasagna and declared it wonderful; just like his Mama ( Italian!) used to make. I split shrimp and scallop risotto with my other friend; wonderful flavor to the risotto but scallops were very salty, which was a big disappointment for an otherwise great meal. Definitely recommend the place but one warning-- not accessible for anyone who has trouble navigating stairs as restaurant is located in a 3 floor old home-- lovely and homey setting.
Floriana is one of our favorite restaurants in DC. The ambiance is cozy; the food usually exceptional; the half-priced wines on Wednesdays (and Sundays) a great way to go. This time around, I had to send my food back to the kitchen (main dish) since it was less than hot (it was somewhat rectified). Service was, as usual, outstanding. Brin is simply super. We would like to see "the boss" a little more: he is super knowledgeable but he's been absent the last three occasions...
I found Floriana on Yelp and it lived up to my expectations. I went for a business/friendly meal for two on a weeknight. The restaurant was quiet. The service was attentive but relaxed and unobtrusive. And the food was really great across the board. Delicious appetizers (black gnocchi and mussels, autumn salad, rockfish, zuca ravioli). There is also an upstairs dining room that would be great for more private dinners or groups.
Great wine list. Many contemporary twists on Italian classics. Only negative was very tight quarters for 4 adults at a tiny four top. Barely enough room for water and wine glasses, no space for the candle, nor the wine bottle. Our tall muscular gentlemen friends felt very uncomfortable.
4 of us went to dinner at 6:30 pm on Monday night. Salads were all delicious. Main courses were a catastrophe . Risotto with shrimp and scallops tasted okay but was big on the risotto and very short on the seafood. Two of us got salmon and asked for roasted vegetables with it and no cream sauce. They came with cream sauce and the roasted vegetables were all dark brown and inedible. We sent them back and got salmon without the cream sauce and broccoli that was fine. One of us got a tenderloin steak and asked for no sauce and roasted vegetables. It came sitting in a puddle of cream sauce with no vegetables at all! Desserts were good, tiramisu and chocolate mousse.
Floriana is a convenient Dupont Circle area place with excellent Italian food, good service and on the night we were there (Sunday) 1/2 price bottles of wine from the very good wine list. Server was good, entrees were ample and tasty. Wine choice recommended turned out to be great and a great value at 1/2 off. Next time we go might want to try one of the upper floors to see how they differ from the main floor.
The service was professional and unobtrusive, and the first floor dining room was comfortable and inviting. The food was a disappointment. Each of the four of us had different first and main courses. None were bad, but they were consistently flat. The soup was under flavored, the pate was almost runny, the salad's greens were good, but the dressing again flat. With prices $10-18 for firsts, and $25-40 for mains, the value wasn't there.
Floriana is and has been a hidden gem. I love this place, it feels like coming home. They change their menu fairly often. I have been probably about 5 times when I lived in the neighborhood a few years ago. I just moved back to DC and went back for the first time--it did not disappoint. Highly recommend.
I frequent Floriana semi-regularly as the situation calls for and in the past the food has been top notch but this most recent visit, not so much. As usual the service was stellar but the food was lacking. My friend and I didn't eat a LOT but we both had the prosciutto benedict, which seemed like it would be an interesting twist on a classic. It was not. First off, there was egg shell in my benedict and the bastardized hollandaise sauce simple wasn't very good. Also, the choice to use HARD slices of French baguette instead of a soft English muffin was not exactly inspired.
It was very disappointing considering the great meals I'd had there in the past. Will probably take a break from Floriana for a while.
Food and atmosphere were delightful....., a joy. Only disappointment was that the floor manager (a 2 months employee) came to our table after we had finished paying and were sitting talking to ask us to leave as others were waiting for our table. Felt like a huge negative to what had been up to that point a very fun evening.
I highly recommend this restaurant, particularly for special occasions. BUT the prices are so reasonable that it is a totally justifiable as a casual date night spot as well, or a place to take someone new to DC to. My girlfriend and I went here for our anniversary (which I had indicated on open table) and the hostess congratulated us on the occasion immediately as we walked in. As a converted house to restaurant, the ambiance was very cozy and comfortable. Food was incredible. 5 Stars!
My boyfriend and I came for our anniversary and the food was incredible but the service was what blew us away. Very attentive and knowledgeable staff working who made the experience one that we have not stopped talking about to our friends and family. We will be returning to the city just for this restaurant.
We ate inside on the second floor in the back by a fireplace. It was quiet and romantic. Our server was excellent and each step of the meal was great. Portions are large. We had an appetizer and a salad, split both. We had individual entrees and could easily have split one.
We sat outside on our prior visits. It is nice and fun, but a very different vibe compared to our dinner last night. They are both good, but very different. Last night was an anniversary dinner so we appreciated the quieter, indoor atmosphere.
We had a very nice time and gave a five star review.
