Floriana Ratings and Reviews
Floriana is a convenient Dupont Circle area place with excellent Italian food, good service and on the night we were there (Sunday) 1/2 price bottles of wine from the very good wine list. Server was good, entrees were ample and tasty. Wine choice recommended turned out to be great and a great value at 1/2 off. Next time we go might want to try one of the upper floors to see how they differ from the main floor.
The service was professional and unobtrusive, and the first floor dining room was comfortable and inviting. The food was a disappointment. Each of the four of us had different first and main courses. None were bad, but they were consistently flat. The soup was under flavored, the pate was almost runny, the salad's greens were good, but the dressing again flat. With prices $10-18 for firsts, and $25-40 for mains, the value wasn't there.
Floriana is and has been a hidden gem. I love this place, it feels like coming home. They change their menu fairly often. I have been probably about 5 times when I lived in the neighborhood a few years ago. I just moved back to DC and went back for the first time--it did not disappoint. Highly recommend.
I frequent Floriana semi-regularly as the situation calls for and in the past the food has been top notch but this most recent visit, not so much. As usual the service was stellar but the food was lacking. My friend and I didn't eat a LOT but we both had the prosciutto benedict, which seemed like it would be an interesting twist on a classic. It was not. First off, there was egg shell in my benedict and the bastardized hollandaise sauce simple wasn't very good. Also, the choice to use HARD slices of French baguette instead of a soft English muffin was not exactly inspired.
It was very disappointing considering the great meals I'd had there in the past. Will probably take a break from Floriana for a while.
Food and atmosphere were delightful....., a joy. Only disappointment was that the floor manager (a 2 months employee) came to our table after we had finished paying and were sitting talking to ask us to leave as others were waiting for our table. Felt like a huge negative to what had been up to that point a very fun evening.
I highly recommend this restaurant, particularly for special occasions. BUT the prices are so reasonable that it is a totally justifiable as a casual date night spot as well, or a place to take someone new to DC to. My girlfriend and I went here for our anniversary (which I had indicated on open table) and the hostess congratulated us on the occasion immediately as we walked in. As a converted house to restaurant, the ambiance was very cozy and comfortable. Food was incredible. 5 Stars!
My boyfriend and I came for our anniversary and the food was incredible but the service was what blew us away. Very attentive and knowledgeable staff working who made the experience one that we have not stopped talking about to our friends and family. We will be returning to the city just for this restaurant.
We ate inside on the second floor in the back by a fireplace. It was quiet and romantic. Our server was excellent and each step of the meal was great. Portions are large. We had an appetizer and a salad, split both. We had individual entrees and could easily have split one.
We sat outside on our prior visits. It is nice and fun, but a very different vibe compared to our dinner last night. They are both good, but very different. Last night was an anniversary dinner so we appreciated the quieter, indoor atmosphere.
We had a very nice time and gave a five star review.
Very nice restaurant in a residential, older home setting—multiple levels, creaky wooden staircase, etc. Friendly, attentive staff. The mussels were excellent as was the lamb gnocchi. The tables were close together so that private conversation is difficult. The noise level was very high as well. Needed my iPhone flashlight to read the menu. Overall a very enjoyable meal and a good value.
We had a party of 6 and we all loved our meals -- the lamb gnocchi, tenderloin ravioli, and the pesto were all big hits! Loved the ambiance of the historic building; it felt like fine dining, with a relaxed atmosphere. We had a 7:15 reservation, and when we first started our meal, the noise level was low, but got louder as the evening went on. Best of all, we didn't break the bank -- even with 6 people and a couple of bottles of wine. Great value! I would definitely go back, and would love to try the outdoor seating next time.
We had a wonderful anniversary celebration. The roasted brussel sprouts, snapper and lasagne were scrumptious. The wine we requested was not available, so the steward suggested another that was delicious. The waitstaff was attentive, knowledgeable and friendly. Our favorite restaurant for quiet celebrations was sold two years ago. Floriana has become our new go-to celebration restaurant.
I'm ñot normally a fan of "townhouse dining" but Floriana is making me rethink that. The service (Marco was our waiter) was phenomenal and we really enjoyed our meal. The roasted brussel sprouts are so good we ordered a second serving and we enjoyed our meals immensely! I will return!
Lovely Washington location with comfortable indoor and outdoor seating. The decor was casual and comfortable - a renovated home.
We are very early and the service was excellent and casual. The food was well prepared, well portioned, but served a bit quickly. (But in fairness we were early birds).
I would highly recommend.
No sooner than we walked in did we start thinking about when we could come back! What a jewel of a dining room, and what friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive staff. The food is delicious and well-priced (the lamb gnocchi were a knockout!) and the wine list is carefully curated with interesting choices in all price points. We will return OFTEN!
My husband and I brought our four sons, ages 7, 10, 13 & 16, to the District for a long weekend. Our meal at Floriana was exceptional. Each of our meals was wonderful from the lasagna to the gnocchi to the risotto. The service was very friendly and knowledgeable. We look forward to returning when in town again.
From the moment we walked in we were impressed with Floriana's. We went before theater, not knowing anything about it. Our server was outstanding, she took the time to describe the dishes and made some fabulous recommendations. Our food was presented beautifully, tasted delicious and there was enough on the plate. Highly recommend. I think this is our new go to restaurant before theater.
Food was really good. Nice size portions. Different menu, definitely not your typical Italian restaurant but delicious. Only problem for us was entering the restaurant with an elderly parent who had trouble with the stairs. No banister is a detriment. The host said that it was due to the historic nature of the building, not allowed to alter stairways.
