Very quiet and rustic. Allowed me to have a meaningful date night with my significant other. Experienced a slight I convenience with my original table and was moved right away. Very delicious food and a better experience.
In celebrating the final night of Restaurant Week in Washington, DC this was a most excellent choice. Our food and drink (specialty cocktails) were divine and service was impeccable! I will definitely eat here again and recommend this place for fine Italian dining whole-heartedly! I will come again!
Food was truly excellent — I had the melon soup and the tuna; both preparations were really innovative and delicious. (Portions were just on the verge of too large ... but that’s not a complaint!) The berry cobbler was less impressive: would have been better served warm, crust was really thick and hard/dense, and I’d prefer more fruit than crust, regardless. That said, that apps and entrees more than compensated. The low point was service. Astonishingly slow — especially to take our order and bring the appetizers, then silverware, and the check at the end. Plus, the server forgot my wine altogether. (Luckily, one guy was more on the ball than our server and pinch-hit.) In terms of ambience: patio is lovely (but perhaps spray for mozzies if not wearing long pants); inside is charming, but gets really loud.
Appetisers were great (mussels and calamari) were very good. The main coarse was served only warm as if it had spent too much time waiting. The sauce for the filet mignon was not very imaginative.
Went for restaurant week! Really enjoyed the burrata with peaches and the butternut squash tortellini.
The night started off great but did not end well. The staff was very friendly when we arrived, walking us over to our table and wishing my boyfriend a Happy birthday. They were able to accommodate my requests (window seating and a special print out menu).
Our waiter arrived to our table about 10 minutes after we were seated, which is when we put in our drink order. It was another 10-12 minutes until we were actually served our drinks. My partner and I noticed that we did not get the bread and spread that was on everyone else's table, but we did not want to seem confrontational and did not mention anything and instead ordered Bruschetta off of the menu. After what seemed like another 10-15 minutes, we finally placed our meal orders. Our meal did not arrive for another 40 minutes. I watched a table to my left be seated, served, and finish their meals before our food arrived. Worried that were would miss our show, I kindly asked the waiter how much longer did he think it would be, he never returned to our table and the food arrived about 15 minutes after I approached him.
Now, the meal was not what I expected either. For having to wait almost an hour and a half to eat, my food was lukewarm to say the least. I chose Floriana because I read wonderful reviews about serving sizes and quality. I was very unhappy with both serving size and quality of my meal. When our waiter came over to check on us, I asked for the check. Unfortunately, we were unable to stay for dessert but they gave us a nice card wishing my partner Happy Birthday.
Overall, It was not an amazing experience. I tried to be understanding of the fact that our waiter was training someone, but to wait that long to eat food that was not hot, to be left waiting when I asked how much longer we would have to wait, and to wait that long to be served something so skimp was extremely disappointing.
Very good food and service in a quaint setting.
My office building uses Floriana quite a bit especially for larger groups. They are always so accomodating and the service is excellent. The fixed lunch is a great deal and I would highly recommend it.
The food was fabulous! Everything we ate was cooked to perfection with wonderfully balanced flavors. Our waiter Marco was wonderful as well adding to to the experience! He was attentive, personable, professional! Marco went the extra mile to ensure we had a great experience.
The shrimp and scallop risotto was perfect! The cold melon soup and corn salad were delicious.
Great food and excellent service. Nice wine list too at good price points.
Very dark. Could hardly see the food in the dark. We should have sat outside where it was very well lit. I got the lobster with black squid ink pasta. Pasta was pasty and stuck together. Way over priced for the quantity of lobster in the dish. Service was great. Staff very attentive.
Food was amazing at a reasonable price. Great place to visit for any occassion, but especially for a celebration.
Went here for our anniversary and so glad we did! Excellent food, impeccable service, romantic atmosphere! A wonderful night out!
We lucked out as a bunch of friends had dinner at Floriana during Restaurant week! Every single one of the wait staff are warm, helpful and nice! The food is so delicious! I had the lasagna and it was the best lasagna I have ever tasted! My friends had the lobster dish with squid ink spaghetti and loved it. From the bread and devious basil spread to dessert- tiramisu and pistachio pudding with the best pistachio biscotti - and wonderful wine- this is a great restaurant! Wish I could remember the head waiter’s name this is a great Italian gem!
Great waiter, the staff was wonderful. It was my friend's first time and she loved it. Can't wait to go back.
Brunch at Floriana is a great value! The food is excellent. My only complaint is that the brunch menu does not have enough pasta options.
Food was only okay. Service was excellent. Can’t say much for the ambiance - the bright red walls are awful.
We were in Washington to visit the African American Museum and this spot was recommended. We were not let down. Great place for an intimate dinner.
Wonderful all around.
Our waiter Michael was fantastic.
The ‘hidden’ downstairs bar should not be missed.
Super bartender Dito welcomes all.
We enjoyed a table next to the window inside . Our waiter was very attentive. He wished us Happy Anniversary right away ! We ordered the black gnocchi they came in a lobster cream sauce with perfectly cooked shrimp . My husband got the fish of the day which was cooked perfectly with yellow squash . I had the duck carbonara the pasta was a bit under cooked the overall dish was flavorful but a bit dry . We had a wonderful not to sweet chocolate mousse to wrap up our dinner . Overall would go back and try other menu items .
Wow, what a gem Floriana is! Everything was amazing and my server, David, was excellent and gave me a great recommendation to pair my wine with the lobster trennette. Highly recommend this restaurant and look forward to more visits as it has become one of my favorite dinner spots around the city!
Always a great dining experience, lots of seating options, and located close to where I live, so I always bring out-of-town guests there, who always want to go back when they are in town.
Another spectacular dinner and evening. The food was awesome as ever. Buretta appetizer, Caprese salad, Scallops entree and desserts. Our waiter couldn’t have been more pleasant. He helped make our special day SPECIAL. (Anniversary/Wedding). Thank you Floriana!
Fantastic service from Tim. Gracious and efficient.
Everything about the experience was fantastic! Maria our server was especially exceptional! Great job by the entire staff!
The bruschetta app was extremely oily the bread was saturated. The fried brussel sprouts were also extremely greasy. The shrimp & scallop risotto was outstanding and the burrata ravioli was fair. For dessert the tiramisu was outstanding but the apple tart really lacked flavor. The bread crumble on top had no taste at all.
When we got married Floriana was where we ate our post wedding dinner and I remember it being fabulous. So we decided to revisit it for our fifth anniversary. I was so excited to come back but the second experience left my sadly disappointed. It also looks as if the restaurant structure itself has been seriously neglected and overall it looked as if everything needed a deep clean.
A well-established restaurant living off its reputation. Pasta was tough, bread was stale, etc.
Excellent food. Lovely space.
The best Italian food I’ve had in a while! Half off wine on Sunday was a plus as well! Everything was cooked perfectly. We had brown butter raviolis and shrimp/scallops risotto - all delicious!
Amazing service! The bread and desserts were delicious. I’ve been here many times and the lasagna is always the best thing on the menu.
I chose Floriana based on it's reviews and I was not disappointed. The food was great but what made our experience there exceptional was our waiter Bryan and the manager. They went out of their way to make us feel welcome and taken care of. We will definitely go back the next time we're in DC!
The food and service were really great--how is it I've lived in this city from 71-84 (child), and then again from 2003-2019 and not been to Floriana before?
Our waiter was excellent, the wine was deliciously paired, the pasta delicious, and my friends all said their food was delicious, too. We had a reunion, so it was really nice to be able to hear each other speak!
We had a great time and the food was amazing. Best lasagna we have ever eaten. We will definitely be back.
went on a monday night in July so not many tables filled and it was very quiet. All three of us enjoyed our food and the attentive but not interrupting service. The calamari is excellent as were the seared scollaps and the shrimp/scallop risottor.
Love this beautiful restaurant. The lasagna is the best I have ever had.
Relaxing, low-key place. My friend was in town and we needed to catch up. We sat inside to avoid the summer heat. Service wasn't rushed, was just right. We both had the scallops risotto and it was delicious. We shared the black gnocchi appetizer and a Caeser salad. Best of all, because it was a Sunday night, it was half-price bottle wine night. We had a delicious wine we've never tried before, recommended by the manager. We loved it. I live in the neighborhood and like my neighbors, this is a neighborhood favorite.
All was delicious except the apple donuts were either not cooked enough or not sweet enough. But the lasagna, benedicts, and frittata and service were great. The donuts were on the house since they were out of the Nutella roll so not a big deal. Great ambience in the town house setting.
I took my parents to Floriana for dinner when they were visiting DC recently, as some colleagues of my father had recommended the restaurant. I was expecting a quaint, quiet restaurant with high quality food compared to the hustle and bustle of the downtown DC dining scene. The food (especially the bread and accompanying pesto/olive oil) was very good, but the service and ambiance were lacking. I had the lasagna, my dad had the sunday gravy, and my mom had the field greens salad. She had requested the salad dressing on the side which was not served as such, and once our food was served the waiter did not return for drink orders for the remainder of the meal. The restaurant being built out in an old row-home lent to the ambiance I was looking for, however there were some related downsides. We were seated on the 2nd floor which quickly became very warm due to a seeming lack of central air, and when we arrived there were fruit flies in our water glasses and in the area. In the room in which we were seated there were two large parties of 8+ patrons seemingly celebrating birthdays, and the noise level got very loud very quickly. Normally this would not bother me, but my parents are rather sensitive to loud noise as they get migraines easily. All considering I probably would not return.
Traveled all the way from Philadelphia to dine at Floriana, and it did not disappoint. My boyfriend and I enjoyed it!
