Food is good, but it's heavy and there is too much of it. Also, it is very uncomfortable in the restaurant - tables are tight and it was very hot and sweaty the night we were there. As it got more crowded, it got louder and it was hard to talk. It's a pretty restaurant, but maybe a bit too dark, too cramped and too hot.
Lovely meal and very quick service. Especially good for special occasion - they brought outa very nice tiramisu with a candle. A foodie place - three kinds of gnocchi! Not so easy for children.
Food was fantastic, no complaints there. The servers seem to be a little confused and disorganised, as well as unfamiliar with their menu. When asked if the Bloody Mary was good, our server said “I don’t know, I’m sure they’re good because I make them” while he was joking around, it would have only been funny if the drink he brought us was actually drinkable; it was in fact terrible.
Gee I like this place!
Wonderful food and service. Just a little loud and warm inside.
Service is SO wonderful - everyone is so friendly and helpful and accommodating - we SO enjoy Floriana's!!
Our favorite neighborhood as well as just a wonderful place to dine.
Brunch was fantastic and delicious! My friend had one of the omelettes, and I had the eggs in purgatory. The only hiccup was that the dish originally delivered to me was the wrong one - but it was quickly fixed.
Ámazing food! We had the lasagne; squid; and a few "surprise" dishes that the waiter brought to the table because we couldn't decide what to eat. We weren't;t disappointed!!
Excellent service too.
The only problem for me was that my seat was too close to walking traffic zone and waiters kept hitting me probably 20 or more times. Food was excellent however.
The chocolate mousse is to die for, rich but not too sweet. The gnocchi are creamy and flavorful. Intimate setting, helpful, attentive staff.
Awesome in every respect.
Floriana was outstanding in acknowledging our anniversary dinner with a personal note.
My hubby and I traveled to DC for cherry blossoms this year. We were recommended to Floriana by a concierge at JW Marriott. We originally had a reservation at Fiola.
We arrived a few minutes prior to our reservation and was directed to downstairs bar waiting for our table. To our surprise, the bar is located near the kitchen which you can smell the yummy food. We were seated in 10 mins of waiting. We then proceeded to our table. At first, we were seated inside but a bit noisy so we asked for a table outside patio. They accommodated to us right away. The service here is awesome. Everyone is friendly and polite.
We ordered for the appetizer: Fegato (liver mousse), fried Brussels sprout (highly recommended), and Burrata. The mousse is wonderful except the bread was a bit hard. Highly recommended the fried Brussels sprouts. Burrata was okay as it was hard. I was looking for the melt in your mouth kinda Burrata.
For Main course: I had scallops and shrimps risotto. Oh let me tell you, this is the best I’ve ever had. The scallops were melting in my mouth, perfectly seared golden brown and the risotto was perfect consistency. My hubby had Lamb Gnocchi. The gnocchi was super soft & the lamb provided the perfect flavor accompaniment for the gnocchi. The lamb itself was done much the same as the gnocchi - perfect & soft. If I could change anything in the entire main course, it would be perhaps a slightly smaller portion of the risotto, but otherwise it was a great main course.
Add to our experience, we had a wonderful conversation with the restaurant manager and is funny and informative. Whenever we are back to DC, we would definitely be here again. Highly recommended. BTW, they love people from California 🤗❤️
Wonderful dinner on the patio. The server was so kind and replaced my wine when something was off without a problem. We split the fried calamari which was terrific. My date had the lobster gnocchi and I the lamb gnocchi. Both were delicious.
Fantastic food and service. The "Sunday Gravy" pasta was amazing.
This place was a great choice for our anniversary! Very romantic, the food was amazing, and excellent service! We will be back!
This was a wonderful restaurant with very high quality, authentic food. The wait staff was quite solicitous, but not "in your face." The value was very good. It's a bit noisy, but it seems that is the common thing now.....
The calamari was great and tortellini mignon quite good but the house salad was slathered in dressing and the seafood risotto had little seafood and the risotto was more like a mushy brick than properly cooked risotto.
We love Floriana...the food is great, the atmosphere cozy and romantic, and the service is perfect. Our waiter was most accommodating and helpful. We'll keep coming back.
Small dining space
My only hesitation is that there is no railing to go up the steps into the restaurant and if you go upstairs it’s quite steep. Else I would give it a five. Wonderful time
Always a wonderful experience!! Loved every dish, especially the brussel sprouts!
Food was fantastic across the board. Half price wine night means we will definitely be back.
Three of us went for dinner on a weekday night. Food quality was mixed. Lasagna and arincini very good. Burrata ravioli tastless. Butternut squash ravioli, undercooked - way tougher than al dente. Caprese salad ordinary. Coffee almost undrinkable. Panna cotta very good. Service good. We were so close to the other table we could hear every word of their conversation and they were not talking loudly. Tables were so close we could not easily get up from our table without distributing other guests.
The restaurant is a dynamic and charming venue in a converted historic residential building. Intimate and colorful, the space is fun and cozy despite the boisterous noise level. Pasta is made by hand by a team of women on the third floor, and is one of the specialties. Manager very attentive and ensured we enjoyed a wonderful experience.
Great food, decent service, award bathrooms. But the vibe is so nice and romantic in the heart of Dupont and the food lives up to the hype. They need to do a better job welcoming in guests and explaining specials, how the food is prepared etc. There is no 'STORY' or set up for the meal/evening - just 'hey come in what do you want. ' The food and the ambiance is too good to not have great service!
Lived in dc many years ago and was a semi regular. Returned to visit and even though Floriana is now retired and living large in Mexico the food and service was as good as ever. Our waitress Maria was also terrific. Can’t wait to get back there.
This was a good dining experience in DC. The food was very good and prices were reasonable for the setting. The lamb gnocchi was very good but a pinch of finishing salt would have taken it where it needed to be. The scallop shrimp risotto was very flavorful. Service was good but refilling of drinks might have been better. The downside to this restaurant is the size. Tables are very close together making it impossible to focus exclusively on your table mate. That took away some from the intimacy that we were seeking. That's not a killer, but perhaps a change in expectation.
Too many tables in too small a space made for a noise level that was too loud. Servers were friendly. Appreciated the manager coming around to chat with us. My food was served luke warm. My wife and friend were fine with theirs. I might go back. But wouldn’t feel comfortable recommending it to a friend. Sorry!
Lovely dinner: The duck was perfectly done and a generous serving. The Caesar Salad had plenty of Parmesan but lacked any garlic or anchovy taste; dressing was almost nonexistent. Our waiter was very attentive and knowledgeable. Drinks were well-made and also generous.
Great outdoor dining venue. Watching the world of DuPont parade by is great entertainment. Food is exceptional. Service is spot on. Whenever we are in DC we try to this place at least once. Highly recommend.
The scallops were cooked to perfection. Our server was attentive and ver personable. Chocolate mousse was not as light and fluffy as I would have like but still delicious.
Delicious meals! Loved the lasagna, black gnocchi, lamb gnocchi, mussels and Caesar salad. Highly recommend.
Decadent meal. Loves the appetizers and entees. Good wine selection. Will return
The calamari was excellent, pesto was superb, and Impeachment (beverage) was innovative.
Floriana was a great experience. We were very well looked after by folks who clearly knew (and were passionate) about their food, wine and service.
The quality and quantity of the dishes were very, very good.
Maybe it was an off night but food was disappointing.
We went there for brunch. The menu is innovative and very tasty. It's in an old house which adds charm.
This is a mixed review, so I want to start with and emphasize the positive. The food is very good. We had the Fegato and the fennel salad, which were both solid. For the main course, we had the lamb gnocchi, which was beyond divine, and also the porcini ribeye. I don't think the ribeye is the most popular selection on this menu, and I prefer fillet, but this was an outstanding ribeye - the sear was excellent and it was really succulent. The dessert mousse was also very good. Most of the food is continentally authentic and the flavors and tastes are very good. The mixed drinks are also excellent.
Now the rest. The restaurant was PACKED the day we went. They were moderately disorganized. The host was really quite nice - he was really apologetic, but he sent several parties down to the bar, which was also packed, and then he did feel bad for a couple of women, who were also waiting past their reservation time, and brought them bubbles. We were seated probably around 20-30 minutes past our reservation time, and there is no convenient place to stand to wait (and none to sit, at all). When we were seated, we had no service for quite some time, and then a waiter said he would come back for our drink orders, without introducing himself (and promptly never interacted with us again until the end of the main course). The host, who was running around, actually took our drink and meal orders, and of course they were brought out by other people, who did not know who ordered what, etc. When we did finally interact with the waiter, he was really nice too. I'm not sure if the restaurant management is bad, and the staff are not properly trained (it seems this place is a Dupont classic, it's definitely not new), or if the problem is just that they are overbooking reservations. It seems like probably 75% is the latter. I would go back if I knew they were not busy - I'm not sure I'd go back at peak again like this (and I didn't know they would be so busy).
