Food was excellent. Very clean and fresh. Coming back again
One of the best brunches I have had lately! Fried green tomato benedict was fantastic, also sampled other's orders and was impressed.
Brunch at Flora is, as we've come to expect after 10+ visits, sheer perfection. Get the bloody Mary with mezcal. Any of the food you select is fantastic.
We were on time for our 12.30 reso (we were in Marin.) He started with an IPA. I ordered the shrimp & grits. Fiance ordered fried chick, waffles & roasted peach. Everything was delicious when it finally came (about 40 mins later!) Unfortunately we had an engagement scheduled right after. I was only able to take a few hurried bites and then took it all to go! Our serveur Megan could not do much. She must have alerted the manager. The manager handled everything in a truly professional manner. There was some kind of snafu in the kitchen. Someone in the office today was surprised she knows the owner (says he is really nice, contributes to her/their son's school's auction.) She told me the restaurant has been around and is known for their creative cocktails. Just hope we can make it back some day since this probably was a one off day.
Had heard good reviews & was looking forward to the dining experience.
Service was welcoming but lack of attention to detail, ordered wine which did not arrive until after appetizers & salad as an example. The restaurant was not busy.
Food was average, not inspiring and considering the amount choices in the Bay Area not likely I will return.
Just the best Uptown bistro, relaxed, competent, friendly, with excellent Oaktown vibe, and warm and welcoming space.
I have always counted this among Oakland’s best restaurants. Service is generally good. We had two appetizers: burrata and gazpacho. They were excellent. We both had halibut as an entree; it was wonderful. We shared a superb chocolate dessert.
We went on a week night and was able to score a reservation on short notice. Service and ambiance was great. Food was generally good. We ordered the halibut and it might have been too cooked because server told us it would be rare to medium and we liked that but then both my brother and husband observed it to be drier than they would have liked it to be. My nephew and I had the burgers and we were very happy with our orders. Will definitely recommend the burger to friends. We also appreciated that we gave feedback that the mashed potatoes were too salty and it was taken off our bill. That showed me that Flora responds to sincere feedback from their diners. Will definitely recommend this place to friends and was happy to finally dine here. It's always so crowded for the pre and post theatre times that I have tried to dine here in the past.
Disappointed. Service was way too slow. Food was generally enjoyable. Fried green tomatoes were a highlight. The flank steak was more medium rare to rare than medium, while mashed potatoes were unnecessarily salty. The main problem was the service. Just the simple task of clearing the plates took a long time. We were interested in having dessert, but we had been there so long that we just wanted to leave.
Great all around. Location, food, service, ambience, drinks. Perfection. I will plan to go here again when I visit the Fox. Edgar and Molly were both really great.
An Oakland standard that still holds it's place near the top. Service lacked a bit and I was 50/50 on our meal selections.
Food was great (dessert a little disappointing though with dry cake)
Service was off, more than 15 minutes after being seated to get drinks and another long gap between starters and mains.
One of my favorite restaurants to go to for brunch and dinner. Love the energy and the artwork. Service was great and I especially was happy to getting for a duplicate receipt which I accidentally left on the table after our dinner. Megan was great as well as all the other employees at Flora.
Delicious food. Precise rye old fashioned. Fresh, tasteful creations. The noise did me in. made it really hard to enjoy the meal. We couldn’t converse. Fast paced drinks & courses. Outstanding waitstaff* My vegetarian dishes were delicately flavored- gazpacho & ratatouille. Several of the first & second plates were repetitive. I’d repeat on a quiet night for another try.
Flora is fun but the air conditioning was not working, so that made it a bit uncomfortable. The service is great and the food was good. Ordered the salmon which was nicely cooked but the accompanying veggies were not properly seasoned.
I love Flora! Beautiful food, great staff that makes you feel special and considered, and an ambience that is reminiscent of a 1940’s Bogey movie
One of the best restaurants in Oakland. Cannot be beat.
We were so impressed but the personal attention we received from everyone. Our server was absolutely lovely, knowledgeable, kind and thorough. Everyone else was really pleasant and attentive. The food was delicious and unique in its presentation. The combination of flavors in the salad , and the prosciutto appetizer was wickedly good. We will definitely be back.
Service was excellent. Ambiance was super nice and comfortable. Food just ok. One of our party had a burger. I know ... but for $16 it should be maybe be on some kinda tricky local-baked bun. However, it was served on a mediocre, stale bun. Not worth the calorie count. Flora has a reputation to uphold. Come on guys!!!
Based on a friend’s recommendation, I took an out of town guest for dinner. I wanted somewhere that reflected the feel of Oakland. It was the perfect place. I love Art Deco and it really blends well with the other Art Deco buildings in the area such as the Fox and Paramount Theater. With most Art Deco inspired designs, it has this husky golden hue. For a pre-dinner drink, I wanted a mojito. It wasn’t on the menu, but the server said it could be mixed. I’m always dubious about the quality of a drink when it’s not on the menu, but the bartender did a fabulous job — refreshing yet not too sweet or tangy. For starters ordered the mixed salad which was fresh and scrumptious. For the main I ordered the Halibut which was made to perfection. Despite the restaurant being busy, the acoustics was such that you could have a conversation wihtout having to raise your voice. High quality food, drink and service, without the pretentiousness you sometimes feel when you dine in SF. Flora would be one of the reasons why I love living in the EastBay.
Generally like this place, and appreciate the thoughtful, fresh menu. On this occasion, service was slow and my halibut was very over cooked.
This is our second time at Flora. The food and drinks are very good. The server was very nice and professional, but service was extremely slow.
Brunch was off the hook! We had the benny and the shrimp and grits. My mom said shrimp and grits was the "best I've ever had."
Still a solid satisfying place. Simple menu but choices that cover the gamut.
Will go again.
Their desserts are good, but could be better...a bit too (consistantly) understated for my personal taste.
This was not our first dinner at Flora, nor will it be our last. We have never been disappointed with anything there; cocktails, wait and bus staff, chefs et al.
After reading reviews and earning praise from several friends, we made a reservation for last Saturday. Overall, it was amazing. Rarely does an establishment have the right balance between the service, food, atmosphere, and drinks. Somehow, they magically did it at Flora! We split the rabbit charcuterie, the oysters, mixed greens, and the pork chop, and it was all stellar. To drink, I had the Half-mile. If you like manhattans, this drink is for you. It’s easily one of my favorite cocktails in the Bay. In addition, I usually don’t order the pork chop at restaurants. I find them tasteless and dry. Not this time! The pork chop was moist and seasoned just right. Lastly, I find that the difference between a good and incredible restaurant experience is in the details. In the reservation, I let them know it was our anniversary. On the menus, they wrote ‘Happy Anniversary’ and, at the end of the meal, our server gave us two glasses of champagne on the house. It’s those seemingly small things that make a huge difference to me. #EATHERE
Flora has always been a great pick with outstanding service and food. We were there on a Friday night around 9:00p, and the craziness outside made for a very loud experience because the doors were open. Other than that annoyance, we'll be back again and again.
This place is awesome. The chef produces the menu based on locally sourced ingredients and what is in season. Cocktails were delicious.
Every dish was fresh and well executed. Service was excellent!
I've driven by the restaurant a number of times and finally made a reservation. We enjoyed our dinner very much. The food was prepared well and the drink menu was exciting. Overall a good experience.
Great service from the moment you walk in! Food is so fresh, flavorful and delicious!!! Cocktails are great! Ambience is perfect
Had Father's Day Brunch and loved all of the entrees and beignets & corn bread.
I will cross all the deserts, swim the widest oceans, to have those chicken and waffles again.
Birthday brunch. Fantastic!
Stupendous. The hostess and server were both lovely and attentive. We got there at 10 when they opened so we had our choice of seats. We ordered beignets, a quart of French Press, deviled eggs, biscuits, roasted potatoes, chicken & waffles & shrimp & grits. EVERYTHING was terrific. I’m a harsh critic and Flora is my new favorite brunch destination.
This is our place for date night. Always great service and food.
Menu is a little limited but good. Asparagus soup was awesome. Tavern steak was above average. Dining room is very understated. We would go again. Best meal during our stay in Oakland.
