beyond noisy..impossible to talk..not enough varied choices on menu
Another great time at Flora. Nice dinner with friends. Good cocktails and wine. Food was perfect.
This is a top-notch restaurant. Service was excellent. The waitress was attentive and knowledgeable. We had shrimp cocktail, burrata, fish, falafel and chocolate pavlova for dessert. All were excellent.
We ate here on a Wednesday night. Reservations are a very good idea. It was noisy, but perhaps noisier than usual b/c there was a loud group at one end of the dining room & Flora is not that big. The staff accommodated our request for a quieter table as best they could. We ate at the far end of the bar & it was a great place - quieter, and we could look down the length of the kitchen as the chef & her staff worked the orders. Great fun.
I had the pork chop, which came with spatzle & saurkraut. It was large, moist & delicious; the best I can recall ever having had. I could not finish the mashed potatoes I also ordered.
My Rye Manhattan cocktail was done correctly.
We'll be back!
We love Flora! I recommend it to a number of people when they are looking for restaurants in Oakland.
We’d gone here when it first opened. We’d had a great dinner & were excited to go for brunch! This time it was good-everything was tasty & served quickly! The only minus was our server seemed tired & not that invested in helping us have a good experience. That made a bit of a bummer. BUT! We liked everything & want to go back.
The food was excellent, the staff was very friendly, and the atmosphere was welcoming.
Fantastic food and service our party of four exclaimed over all evening. We'll be back!
Lovely waitress who offered to bring me a different cocktail if I decided the one I ordered wasn’t to my taste; this was followed up with a taste of wine before deciding if I wanted a glass. The food was great and brought to us at a nice, leisurely pace.
When we arrived is was busy, but not so busy, after about 15 minutes, it was packed. Our service was good, not great, we were waited on by many different staff members, this is good and bad. We weren't sure who our waitress was, but it wasn't a problem because everyone we asked for something, be it water, another beverage or the check, they all helped us upon request. I ordered the burger and fries, it was good, not great, but good. The fries could have been a little crispier, they were blonde, rather than tan or golden, but they were still good. The oyster appetizer with minionette was yummy and I loved the chicharron with lime and chili. All in all, a good meal was had by all and service was good.
Overpriced and just ok. Service was not very attentive.
Have been to Flora one other time fairly recently, and loved it. Great service, delicious food—a totally nice experience. This time, arriving right on time for our reservation, we waited what I thought was a little too long for drink orders. Those done, we ordered before 6:30, then we waited. First courses came after a longer-than-normal wait, but not overly concerning. But main course was a different story. Saw other tables come and go while we waited. Finally our server told us it was taking longer than normal because we’d ordered two courses and that caused a problem for the kitchen. Really?? Salad and a main course causes a problem? Finally got our dinners around 7:20 and rushed through the meal because we had tix for the Paramount at 8. The main course (we all ordered the bass) was ok, nothing to write home about, though the previous time the swordfish we ordered was exquisite. All in all, a great disappointment.
We've returned to Flora after several years. The food is still very good. My date had the Bass and I enjoyed the Pork Chop. Both items were cooked just right and quite tasty. The citrus salad was very good with some unusual pairing of the ingredients. Jessica, our server, was pleasant, helpful and knowledgeable about the menu. We'll come back here again.
Very noisy bar scene to the point of really influencing the experience
While brunch was tasty, thought prices were a tad steep.
Everything was outstanding! My husband and I come here for the drinks, and we love the Carter Beats the Devil. He had the oysters, and we split a shrimp cocktail. Do not skip the shrimp cocktail; there’s a reason it’s always in the menu. We also split a NY strip entree that was served with creamed greens and onion rings. To. Die. For.
Great food and fantastic service. First time dining, sat at the bar before. I’d definitely dine here again.
Breakfast with Friends
Food was AMAZING! Service excellent - as always. Really love this place.
The food was mediocre at best! I got the burger and was underwhelmed.
One of the best restaurants I’ve ever been to. Old fashion service delicious food. Expensive. Took long time to get drinks from bar.
We had a lovely evening Great food from steak to burgers and fabulous cocktails
Highly recommend We always go before the Oakland Speaker Series at the Paramount Theater a block away
We chose this restaurant to be close to the Fox Theater because of an Oakland School for the Arts program. We were able to find street parking a block away. The meal was delicious and the service friendly. Our reservation was for 5:45, so the place was empty, but as we were leaving, we noticed there was not a single table free. So get a reservation.
As a frequent visitor, Flora never disappoints.
Great food and service.
Food was verrrry late. Steak tartare took over an hour to arrive to the table and was supposed to be an appetizer. It came after the meal. Food is decent but underwhelming for the price.
I've been to Flora twice for brunch, and have found the food to be outstanding both times. I far prefer it for brunch than dinner. Our party of four was seated at a corner booth where we were able to visit with minimal noise. We had the cast iron French toast with bacon, the waffle with bacon, the ribs with beans, and the eggs benedict. Each choice was well prepared and tasty. The beverages were expensive - $6 for tea and $10 for French press coffee.
too noisy! Any way to install sound dampening tiles/battens?
Good food and a charming server. The burger is really good and also the mushroom soup.
Had a glass of wine at the bar while waiting for my other half. Was offered samples till I found something I like. Great bartenders and wine buyer.
Food was very good, food server attentive overall a good experience. I’ve been here before and will return.
One complaint was the temperature. We both ate with our coats on. Haven’t done that since camping! So, couldn’t really relax, too bad.
Never disappointed! Great ambience and food. I've been dining at Flora for years.
Flora never disappoints, especially for brunch. The food and the service is wonderful.
The exterior of this bldg is simply stunning, and since our out-of-town daughter is a big Deco fan, that was a factor in choosing Flora. I'd been there before and forgot how ... "energetic" the noise level is. The mushroom soup was a highlight for me - wonderfully flavorful and super-filling. Daughter's oysters got high marks, as did her couscous entree, a lemon dessert and a side order of beets. My husband found his steak a little disappointing. We had a charming and extremely attentive busser, but I wish we'd seen a little more of our server.
I had the steak and it was overly saucy, a little disappointing for the price point. Lacked elegance and the proportions were off - the greens served with it should have been doubled and the sauce halved. Otherwise, a lovely dinner and the burrata we had as a starter was delicious (could have used more bread and greens but the cheese was perfect).
Service was perfect and the ambiance was as expected (I’ve been here multiple times) very lovely.
The food was amazing, and the service was great. We went for brunch and it was incredibly loud. I know this is the trend for restaurants now, but it makes it difficult to have a conversation or to host anyone who is older who has hearing issues.
The food and ambiance are simply unmatched. Whenever we want to go out to eat, it's a no-brainer. Flora for the win, always!
This was a great find for us. The atmosphere is lively and old school. The cocktails are well balanced and very easy to drink. Each thing we ordered was filled with layers of complex flavors. Lastly, the service was outstanding. It's our new neighborhood gem.
Attractive room. Darkish with warm lighting and enjoyable presence of the city through the windows. Delightful server. Enjoyed the Transmogrifier cocktail - like a subtler and more interesting sidecar. Had the buttermilk fried chicken with brightly spicy coating and attractive and interesting vegetables. Spouse had a to-die-for NY steak. Pricey but tasty CA red. Will definitely come back
This was our second time at Flora and the service, food presentation, pace and overall vibe was as great as the first time. Only glitch maybe the fried chicken entree was a bit overthought. We’ll be back next chance we get!
We went for brunch on a Saturday. The beignets and house-made granola with vanilla yogurt were delicious. My partner got a burger with fries, and I can attest that the fries were tasty - crispy and salty just The way I like it. The service was great. The waitress checked on us just enough, and she did not rush us out the door when we lingered to converse. With all the many conversations going on it does get a little loud, so occasionally it felt like I had to shout a bit to be heard, but not so bad that I was terribly annoyed about it. All in all an excellent dining experience.
