Food was AMAZING! Service excellent - as always. Really love this place.
The food was mediocre at best! I got the burger and was underwhelmed.
One of the best restaurants I’ve ever been to. Old fashion service delicious food. Expensive. Took long time to get drinks from bar.
We had a lovely evening Great food from steak to burgers and fabulous cocktails
Highly recommend We always go before the Oakland Speaker Series at the Paramount Theater a block away
We chose this restaurant to be close to the Fox Theater because of an Oakland School for the Arts program. We were able to find street parking a block away. The meal was delicious and the service friendly. Our reservation was for 5:45, so the place was empty, but as we were leaving, we noticed there was not a single table free. So get a reservation.
As a frequent visitor, Flora never disappoints.
Great food and service.
Food was verrrry late. Steak tartare took over an hour to arrive to the table and was supposed to be an appetizer. It came after the meal. Food is decent but underwhelming for the price.
I've been to Flora twice for brunch, and have found the food to be outstanding both times. I far prefer it for brunch than dinner. Our party of four was seated at a corner booth where we were able to visit with minimal noise. We had the cast iron French toast with bacon, the waffle with bacon, the ribs with beans, and the eggs benedict. Each choice was well prepared and tasty. The beverages were expensive - $6 for tea and $10 for French press coffee.
too noisy! Any way to install sound dampening tiles/battens?
Good food and a charming server. The burger is really good and also the mushroom soup.
Had a glass of wine at the bar while waiting for my other half. Was offered samples till I found something I like. Great bartenders and wine buyer.
Food was very good, food server attentive overall a good experience. I’ve been here before and will return.
One complaint was the temperature. We both ate with our coats on. Haven’t done that since camping! So, couldn’t really relax, too bad.
Never disappointed! Great ambience and food. I've been dining at Flora for years.
Flora never disappoints, especially for brunch. The food and the service is wonderful.
The exterior of this bldg is simply stunning, and since our out-of-town daughter is a big Deco fan, that was a factor in choosing Flora. I'd been there before and forgot how ... "energetic" the noise level is. The mushroom soup was a highlight for me - wonderfully flavorful and super-filling. Daughter's oysters got high marks, as did her couscous entree, a lemon dessert and a side order of beets. My husband found his steak a little disappointing. We had a charming and extremely attentive busser, but I wish we'd seen a little more of our server.
I had the steak and it was overly saucy, a little disappointing for the price point. Lacked elegance and the proportions were off - the greens served with it should have been doubled and the sauce halved. Otherwise, a lovely dinner and the burrata we had as a starter was delicious (could have used more bread and greens but the cheese was perfect).
Service was perfect and the ambiance was as expected (I’ve been here multiple times) very lovely.
The food was amazing, and the service was great. We went for brunch and it was incredibly loud. I know this is the trend for restaurants now, but it makes it difficult to have a conversation or to host anyone who is older who has hearing issues.
The food and ambiance are simply unmatched. Whenever we want to go out to eat, it's a no-brainer. Flora for the win, always!
This was a great find for us. The atmosphere is lively and old school. The cocktails are well balanced and very easy to drink. Each thing we ordered was filled with layers of complex flavors. Lastly, the service was outstanding. It's our new neighborhood gem.
Attractive room. Darkish with warm lighting and enjoyable presence of the city through the windows. Delightful server. Enjoyed the Transmogrifier cocktail - like a subtler and more interesting sidecar. Had the buttermilk fried chicken with brightly spicy coating and attractive and interesting vegetables. Spouse had a to-die-for NY steak. Pricey but tasty CA red. Will definitely come back
This was our second time at Flora and the service, food presentation, pace and overall vibe was as great as the first time. Only glitch maybe the fried chicken entree was a bit overthought. We’ll be back next chance we get!
We went for brunch on a Saturday. The beignets and house-made granola with vanilla yogurt were delicious. My partner got a burger with fries, and I can attest that the fries were tasty - crispy and salty just The way I like it. The service was great. The waitress checked on us just enough, and she did not rush us out the door when we lingered to converse. With all the many conversations going on it does get a little loud, so occasionally it felt like I had to shout a bit to be heard, but not so bad that I was terribly annoyed about it. All in all an excellent dining experience.
Too loud to hear conversation from dining companion across the table.
Food good but too pricey. Much more each time we eat there, pre-symphony.
I think we have given up on Flora.
This was our first time at Flora. We really enjoyed the food, the ambiance and the excellent service. There was only one complaint. The menu does not offer a large number of options. We were dining at about 8PM on a Saturday night. However, they were already out of the crab cakes from the modest list of appetizers and the chicken from the main course. If the menu were larger (i.e. more items) this would be less of a problem, but the lack of those two items was an issue for our party since it left relatively few choices. This may have been a one time problem, and we really did enjoy the restaurant, but I would hope that we would not experience this problem on future visits. And yes, in spite of this, we would definitely go back.
bar tender was great, fun. Beer selection sub par so had a sazarac, which was perfect. Great meal.
I had the pork chop and a bottle of the Daou Cabernet!!! So tender and moist and an absolute perfect pairing with that Paso Cabernet!!!!
Great experience. Wonderful service. Even gave us a free dessert for my friends birthday.
Exceptional value for Oakland Restaurant Week dinner. For appetizers, I really enjoyed the persimmons in the brussel sprout appetizer & my husband's crab cakes were perfect. I liked my swordfish entree, but was jealous of my husband's 10 oz NY Strip Steak as it was a perfectly executed medium steak. Our prix fixe meals ended with our choice of desserts. Again, I was jealous of my husband's choice. Though my molten chocolate cake was tasty, the smooth caramel mixed with the salt & crunch of the pepitas was the perfect end to a wonderful date night.
Restaurant week offerings were FABULOUS—crab cakes floating in aioli with citrus and fennel and arugula! Swordfish and steak on point! Just a bit rushed to get out the door to our show...
I have been wanting to try the restaurant and took advantage of the fixed menu for restaurant week in Oakland. The choices on the fixed menu were wonderful and allowed us to truly see the variety of dishes that Flora offers. The cocktails were also terrific. We were not disappointed and would return for another visit.
Flora remembered my birthday and the hostess happily sat us at the best seats in the house after we were thirty minutes tardy. Thank you very much!
Great place to have a high quality service and a good meal before a show at the Fox Theater. It was restaurant week in Oakland, so there was a very good prix fix selection, too.
This was our first time at Flora and even though it was packed for New Year's Eve, everything was pretty flawless. The vibe is cool but unpretentious and the service really spot on. We had the ny strip and the crab/fish stew, which both showed a lot of skill and touch in how they were prepped and plated. Really looking forward to going back to Flora!
Great location, right across from the Fox Theater. Amazing food coupled with stellar service housed in a eclectic art deco building. The restaurant is medium size which means you don't get overlooked and they have a fantastic bar where you can eat/drink at too. Anything on the menu I'm sure is fantastic but I highly recommend the burger. Yes I said burger lol. Trust me this is not your average burger. Will be back again and again.
We had an amazing New Year’s Eve dinner at Flora this year. The staff was very professional. A++++. The restaurant is beautiful and the food was amazing.
Very disappointing. We’ve eaten there once before and had enjoyed it. Last night the fish stew tasted fishy, the scallops were undercooked, oysters tiny, salad just meh. The service was fine and we like the atmosphere. But for the money (not cheap) and disappointing food I won’t return.
Great food, great service, overall amazing. The ambiance is perfect for a date or just a casual dinner. Definitely make a reservation.
Exceeded expectations. Burrata starter was delicious . Chicken, moist and oh so herb flavorful. Polenta & veggie dish, amazing. Loved the saute spinach with lemon & oil. All & All an excellent dinner.
Creative cuisine (e.g., barley risotto w/ root veggies), outstanding service, hip decor. Sidecar cocktail lacking, mediocre wines-by-the-glass list.
From the start, our experience was not good. Despite arriving early for our reservation at a nearly empty dining room, we were given the proverbial worst table in the house: high traffic area next to wait station and bathroom. No service until remainder of party arrived. Server was more attentive after that. Appetizers were excellent: great oysters with mignonette sauce and roast Brussel sprouts. Entrees were sadly of poor quality, especially considering the cost. The seafood stew was served lukewarm at best. The broth was rather bland and lacking in any seafood flavor. Two of the clams did not open up and when I pointed this out to the server she said she would "let them know" and that was the last that I heard about that. The remaining three entrees (each being hamburgers, fries and salad) were served several minutes later. The burgers were okay but not exceptional. The salads were overdressed and the fries were all stubby, about 2-3 inches in length (though actually rather tasty). I thought stubby fries were their thing but saw that the table next to us received beautiful full sized fries. Seems we got the remnant fries.
At the end of the meal things really went bad. There was a oil lamp on the table with an exposed falme that extended about an inch above the sides of the lamp. The hair of one of my dining companions caught fire on the open flame. Fortunately, she was not seriously injured but was definitely in shock. No restaurant employee came to see if she was okay or needed any help. On our way out, the manager expressed her unhapiness with the burn victim for leaving her burnt hair in the sink requiring her to have someone clean it up. She never showed any worry or sympathy for the victim and seemed perplexed that anyone would be upset with her. The restaurant will be fortunate if they are not the subject of a lawsuit.
I was shocked by the attitude of the manager and surprised by the poor quality of food. I only have heard good things in the past.
