Craft cocktails and salted caramel pudding are amazing!
Flora is tremendously average. Menu is safe and boring. Not keen to plant based movement and non alcoholic mocktails. Lots of fried foods
The food here is consistently excellent. I had burrata with tomatoes, arancini, sea bass, and pudding. All were superb. Service was attentive.
Very creative combination of ingredients that surprise the palate.
Shane was, as always, wonderful as he greeted us. Food was glorious and the Bloody Marys..out of this world.
The waitress would not offer us anything until I asked. From a menu, to water to being able to order a drink. This place is over. Sad.
Flora is a long-standing neighborhood favorite of ours - consistently wonderful food and service.
Great meal. Great service. I'd definitely eat there again.
Very convenient to Fox Theater. Great cocktails (Sophia Loren quite delicious), arancini and caramel pudding. Tasty burger, mediocre salad with fig and nectarine (the fruit could've been riper.) Slower service than usual.
Great location easy parking and right across from the Fox Theater. Food is super good, fresh and interesting. The staff is super friendly and accommodating. You can tell they take great care with the food and love what they do.
Would recommend sticking to the lighter side on their menu. Bigger dishes including the burger a bit rich.
I dined here on Father’s Day with my partner and her parents. The service was amazing and the food was great. We will definitely be back for date night soon!
Fathers Day and we were treated like kings and queens. Everything they do is fantastic. Will keep coming back as we are regulars!
Beautiful setting. Food a little disappointing, generally seemed a bit too rich, portions too big.
Food was nothing special I was pretty bummed. The ambiance needs work it feels dead and not cohesive - service was great
Although we have been to Flora numerous times, typically to have dinner before a show, this occasion didn't even seem like it was the same restaurant. The dishes we ordered were simply not good at all. My $34.00 salmon was a teeny tiny thin piece. It was barely five bites. It was accompanied by a smear of cold hummus, and three large rubbery asparagus stalks. It was a joke. I have ordered salmon many times at various restaurants, and the portion sizes have been smaller, but at least I could find it on the plate. My son's short ribs were miniscule as well resembling three strips of bacon more than an actual beef rib. They were served on an appetizer size plate with no accompaniment. This was supposed to be an entree. Both dishes were a complete rip off. My husband's vegetarian pasta was too al dente, but at least adequate. Lastly, my daughter's
hamburger came with a burnt bun, and not cooked as requested. Service was slow, taking forever to receive a glass of wine and the waitress didn't bother to ask if everything was okay. Flora is off our list for Oakland dining.
Perfect location for having dinner before a show at the Paramount Theatre. Nice selection of spirits!
Service was horrific. Won’t go back.
Flora provided very nice meals, highlighting local ingredients. We had the Lassen trout, which was excellent, and the duck, which (I heard) was excellent as well. The salad was delicious, if not very robust in size (we were told by the server it would be good to share, but it was much too small). All in all, we had a fine time.
Great brunch menu with fresh healthy greens like nettles and wild arugula. Also great desserts!
Th caramel pudding is amazing! Very attentive waitstaff. Great ambiance. A bit loud.
Food was terrific - my trout was excellent - though kitchen was slow; desert and drinks excellent; service good though tables in the center are too close for servers to access without bothering adjacent tables; the restaurant was full so noise level made conversation difficult.
Flora is an enjoyable and comfortable hip place to eat and have a drink. The drinks are a bit small and promising but could use a bit refinement. Food was good, but also could use a few more selections for non red meat eaters and non meat customers. I had the meat balls which were very tasty and combined with interesting ingredients, but I thought IMO could have used a bit more spinach or green mixed in to balance the strong meat taste. All in all we had a pleasant time and enjoyed the meal.
Great food and service from our waiter Shane. Good location, the food was very fresh.
Absolutely fantastic food - looking forward to the next occasion for me to eat there
Reduced lunch menu but still a true Oakland venue showing the best of new Oakland.
Food was mediocre. Service, while excellent, was slow. Nothing to write home about. Didn’t get the value I’d expect for the price.
She like me 🥰🥰🥰
Waitress inexperienced. Brought the incorrect wine glasses, no flow to the meal. She had to be reminded to bring us our plates
It was great and service excellent as always. What I am hoping they will bring back to the menu is some rabbit dishes. Lovely evening with friends.
I really enjoyed the unique selection on the menu. The Duck Pastrami was a particular favorite, but everything was delicious. I almost made the unfortunate mistake of skipping desert. Don't make that mistake!
Two of us had dinner at Flora on Friday evening. We were seated immediately and our waiter came over to take drink orders right away. The drinks were fine. We both ordered the arugula salad without the goat cheese to start. It was a good sized salad with a nice vinaigrette. I ordered leg of lamb for my main course and I was underwhelmed. The lamb was fatty, but the meat tasted good. The rest of the plate was a conglomeration of unrelated ingredients; pesto, something white that was puréed, possibly cauliflower, and a bunch of salad greens on top. The caramel pudding for dessert was spectacular.
Flora always provides a beautiful time. From a menu that is always evolving seasonally to a dedicated staff who is equally knowledgeable about the food as they are passionate for warm and engaging service- Flora really is remarkably good. Our meal was utter perfection. Thanks for a lovely evening!
Food was disappointing compared to meals I’ve had there before. Soup had stringy vegetables that were unappetizing and hard to chew. Gulf shrimp were small, chewy and not at all what we expected, again with tough bland greens.
I had two couples travel from South Bay and was embarrassed and disappointed.
The place has changed since I was last there. It was a regular "go to" for me. Now there is a new group of people in the dining room, the menu is similar but the energy is less exciting. The arugula salad was excellent, but the pork confit was okay but not excellent. The small desert taste they brought over was very good. I'll probably go back and try the burger next time.
Burger was tasty. Waffles were the best ever!
Love Love Love this place! The cocktails are fabulous and I can always find something gluten free on the menu.
This is my fourth time at this restaurant and never fails to disappoint. I sat at the bar with a friend at the far end where service could be sketchy to almost nonexistent in most restsurants but we got equal attention from our waiter (thanks Scott!) as if we were at the table. Food fantastic as always. Big thumbs up!
Here's a little place (no exaggeration) that on it's own, is a little on the Divey side, but with the patrons dressed anywhere from very casual to semi formal, turns into a nice little place. The Fox Theatre is right across the street and the Flora is a common sense choice for a meal, snack or drink before a night at the theatre.
Prices are a little pricey. BUT. The food is extraordinary. Other than our Entree' being on the very salty side, our dishes were delicious and well executed. If you are any bit salt sensitive, we have learned now, to request our food to not be seasoned with salt.
The waitstaff is quick to help, makes you feel welcomed and there when you have a question or need. Very well timed and attentive in the right way.
We're very happy to have found the Flora and now that we know we should ask to "Hold the salt", we will be back for special occasions, happen to be in the area or experiencing a performance.
What we ordered:
House Made Rosemary Focacci with Parmesan $6 So delicious, warm and thick slices covered in a mountain of parmesan that must have been fresh made as well.
Ossiel's Deviled Egg $5 Packed with flavor, this little egg was a delight.
Lavender-Lemon Chicken $34 Other than heavy on the salt, this dish was fantastic. The char really came through on the chicken and veggies. Enough for two to split, it may look expensive, but it is a dinner for two.
Long Island Ice Tea Not on the menu, there is a full bar so you can order what you want. Our drinks were on the strong side and packed a punch. So much so, we needed to order dessert!
Carrot Cake and Posset The carrot cake was everything you expect. Moist cake with cream cheese frosting. The Posset, an English dish I believe, was the perfect consistency and delicious with fresh fruit.
We recommend giving Flora a try. Dress as you like, bring some friends, but be sure to book your table. This is a small place and they fill up quickly.
