Flora - Oakland
Corkage fee is $20 per bottle and 18% gratuity is added to parties of 6 or more.
Reduced lunch menu but still a true Oakland venue showing the best of new Oakland.
Food was mediocre. Service, while excellent, was slow. Nothing to write home about. Didn’t get the value I’d expect for the price.
She like me 🥰🥰🥰
Waitress inexperienced. Brought the incorrect wine glasses, no flow to the meal. She had to be reminded to bring us our plates
It was great and service excellent as always. What I am hoping they will bring back to the menu is some rabbit dishes. Lovely evening with friends.
I really enjoyed the unique selection on the menu. The Duck Pastrami was a particular favorite, but everything was delicious. I almost made the unfortunate mistake of skipping desert. Don't make that mistake!
Two of us had dinner at Flora on Friday evening. We were seated immediately and our waiter came over to take drink orders right away. The drinks were fine. We both ordered the arugula salad without the goat cheese to start. It was a good sized salad with a nice vinaigrette. I ordered leg of lamb for my main course and I was underwhelmed. The lamb was fatty, but the meat tasted good. The rest of the plate was a conglomeration of unrelated ingredients; pesto, something white that was puréed, possibly cauliflower, and a bunch of salad greens on top. The caramel pudding for dessert was spectacular.
Flora always provides a beautiful time. From a menu that is always evolving seasonally to a dedicated staff who is equally knowledgeable about the food as they are passionate for warm and engaging service- Flora really is remarkably good. Our meal was utter perfection. Thanks for a lovely evening!
Food was disappointing compared to meals I’ve had there before. Soup had stringy vegetables that were unappetizing and hard to chew. Gulf shrimp were small, chewy and not at all what we expected, again with tough bland greens.
I had two couples travel from South Bay and was embarrassed and disappointed.
The place has changed since I was last there. It was a regular "go to" for me. Now there is a new group of people in the dining room, the menu is similar but the energy is less exciting. The arugula salad was excellent, but the pork confit was okay but not excellent. The small desert taste they brought over was very good. I'll probably go back and try the burger next time.
Burger was tasty. Waffles were the best ever!
Love Love Love this place! The cocktails are fabulous and I can always find something gluten free on the menu.
This is my fourth time at this restaurant and never fails to disappoint. I sat at the bar with a friend at the far end where service could be sketchy to almost nonexistent in most restsurants but we got equal attention from our waiter (thanks Scott!) as if we were at the table. Food fantastic as always. Big thumbs up!
Here's a little place (no exaggeration) that on it's own, is a little on the Divey side, but with the patrons dressed anywhere from very casual to semi formal, turns into a nice little place. The Fox Theatre is right across the street and the Flora is a common sense choice for a meal, snack or drink before a night at the theatre.
Prices are a little pricey. BUT. The food is extraordinary. Other than our Entree' being on the very salty side, our dishes were delicious and well executed. If you are any bit salt sensitive, we have learned now, to request our food to not be seasoned with salt.
The waitstaff is quick to help, makes you feel welcomed and there when you have a question or need. Very well timed and attentive in the right way.
We're very happy to have found the Flora and now that we know we should ask to "Hold the salt", we will be back for special occasions, happen to be in the area or experiencing a performance.
What we ordered:
House Made Rosemary Focacci with Parmesan $6 So delicious, warm and thick slices covered in a mountain of parmesan that must have been fresh made as well.
Ossiel's Deviled Egg $5 Packed with flavor, this little egg was a delight.
Lavender-Lemon Chicken $34 Other than heavy on the salt, this dish was fantastic. The char really came through on the chicken and veggies. Enough for two to split, it may look expensive, but it is a dinner for two.
Long Island Ice Tea Not on the menu, there is a full bar so you can order what you want. Our drinks were on the strong side and packed a punch. So much so, we needed to order dessert!
Carrot Cake and Posset The carrot cake was everything you expect. Moist cake with cream cheese frosting. The Posset, an English dish I believe, was the perfect consistency and delicious with fresh fruit.
We recommend giving Flora a try. Dress as you like, bring some friends, but be sure to book your table. This is a small place and they fill up quickly.
The atmosphere is pleasant and our food was very good. Service was good.
Took 15 minutes to get drinks. Great food, cool ambiance, nice touch with the special customer m menu.
We will be back
Flora was a great place for a preconcert dinner. The food was original and tasty. We were a little disappointed because there was miscommunication between Open Table and Flora which caused us to end up sitting at the bar looking into the kitchen. Overall, we were satisfied.
Prior to concert. Small portions and too expensive
The parmesan bread is everything you ever wanted in a bread!
Food was delicious- we had brunch and it was excellent. Lovely bar as well, with great cocktails. And we loved our server! He was so personable!
Great Easter brunch!
Service, food and ambiance was excellent. Although we brought our own wine, the wine list looked very interesting...
We shall return.
There is no changing table, this was super stressful with my baby and family out for Easter brunch
Great as always
Wonderful food and service! Went here for my husbands birthday and it was our first time so I was a little nervous. It wound up being the most pleasant and happy surprise. We had Scott for our service whic could not have been better. We loved it!
We were there for brunch and Flora is a great spot for that. Fun menu, great coffee, nice drinks.
Food ... amazing! Cocktails ... fantastic! Loved the ambiance, decor and service. Dessert was fantastic. Note - it would be a total game changer if they added valet. I WOULD PAY FOR IT, AS WOULD MANY! They should just acknowledge where they are and agree it’s a necessity.
Outside of that, take an Uber and prepare to enjoy!
The host and server were so attentive, knowledgeable and friendly! They made our anniversary dinner extra special. This is my new go to special occasion restaurant!
The cocktail, the Last tango, was delicious and a great way to start my birthday dinner. The waiter was friendly, but not too friendly, and his service was fine. The timing of the dishes was really off; two of the four entrees came while we were eating our appetizers, which were very good. It was so noisy that the four of us moved together to one side of our round table so we could hear each other. The noise quieted down later in the evening. Inadequate lighting made it so I couldn’t see my main course, which was good, but not great. We had fun, but I don’t think we’re coming to Flora for a special meal again.
Nice ambiance. Cool artwork. Gracious staff. Exquisite flavor pairings.
A charming restaurant for weekend brunch if you like trendy food. The menu selection is quite limited. My waffles were overcooked. The bacon, syrup and beignets were very good. Noise level was quite moderate; normal conversation was possible. Local parking turned out to be quite good in spite of Telegraph Avenue being partly closed for a bicycle race.
A little pricey for quantity but really tasty and fresh. Lemon cheesecake was delicious as were the cocktails. Had the halibut and it was great. Service was a little slow at first but got better as more people arrived.
As always, I enjoyed my brunch at Flora. Our service was outstanding and the cocktails were amazing!
Will be returning soon.
I don't see how the place stays open. The food is average at best, it's overpriced and the people who work there act as though they're doing you a big favor by serving you. A definite thumbs down!!!
Great food, great drinks - a fun place to dine! The menu has creative takes on their offerings - great mixes of flavors and textures!!
I enjoyed having a delicious brunch with friends on my birthday. I'm looking forward to coming back to Flora for dinner.
Great service and good food. Best Irish coffee!
Flora remains a favorite of ours for its simple art deco elegance, great cocktails and generally solid menu. Our last visit, however, wasn't quite up to par. Seated promptly, but service was a little slow after that. Ordered cocktails but it was a while before they brought water glasses for the bottle sitting on the table. Cocktail a tad too sweet, but they were amenable to the feedback and remade it. Kudos! Burger remains stellar. Salads, however, a bit over dressed, and much of the food was a tad over-salted. We had to check on a side dish that lagged behind the rest. But they were super prompt when I asked to add on fries to my steak order after it had arrived (my wife didn't like me picking at her fries :-)
I think Flora could do more with its lighting and big walls. Generally, we still like Flora. But on this night, the passion for the craft of creating and serving an excellent meal was not up to the bar they set for themselves.
That said, we will definitely be back!
We were treated like royalty for our 20th anniversary!
