Jenkintown's Flora is a completely plant-based eatery that serves outrageous vegan dinners crafted with passion in its warm and relaxing restaurant. Flora has a seasonal prix fixe menu, with your option of three or four courses all for a set price. The parsnip soup with smoked paprika oil served with poppy seed crackers and the charred Caesar salad with nori make exceptional first course selections. The second course includes plates like the roasted carrot tart with puree with carrot vinaigrette and the savory pastry knish filled will potato, onion and served with mustard sauce, both of which are delicious. Exotic entrée courses include the vegetable korma with nuts, fruit and Indian spices with fragrant basmati rice and the white bean lasagna with cashew cheese and marinara.
As with the prior courses, dessert at Flora is sure to suit any palate, like the ginger-lime poundcake with coconut caramel sauce.
Had an amazing experience! All of the food was delicious. Will be back!
Simply stunningly awesome vegan food. You won't be disappointed.
A friend recommended Flora. It should have been on our radar as we are vegetarian, but it was our first visit. Flora is a vegan restaurant. The food was very fresh. My husband had a cucumber soup that had peas in it - the broth was bright green, clear and full of flavor. I got the "crab" cake with mashed potatoes and sauteed spinach as my entree which was very good. I highly recommend the tempura-like battered green beans that come with a creamy Worcestershire sauce that is YUMMY! The portions were not large but even without dessert we left feeling sated. Reservations are a must since Flora is a small restaurant. I look forward to going back and exploring more of their menu. BYOB!
Delicious, innovative, and beautifully-presented high quality gourmet food. I try to make sure I go every time they change the menu (with the seasons) so I can see what genius and flavorful dishes they create. (It's not too close to where I live so I cannot go as often as I would like.)
New to the area, I was excited to see an all-vegan restaurant 10 minutes from my house, where I didn't have to deal with city parking, etc. I took a chance on the prix fixe 4 course menu for a rare date with my spouse. The salads were good--great dressing and my spouse liked the battered green beans that taste similar to those at TGI Friday's. I had brussel's sprouts, which were fine, but they were brussel's sprouts--nothing to write home about. My "scallops" were nothing more than round potato cut-outs on a bed of very salty black rice. My spouse's main course looked great on the plate--a "crab cake" over spinach and mashed potatoes--the flavor was pretty bland. There was definitely enough food to fill us up, so we took the desserts to go. When we got home to enjoy them, we found the cake to be hard as a brick and the "cheesecake" runny. The raspberry coulis was good, though. The meal was definitely overpriced for the quality and we won't return. Guess we'll have to face the city to enjoy vegan food that's also worth the price.
The food here was likely the best vegetarian fare in the region. My wife and I have been to a dozen vegetarian restaurants between Princeton and WestChester, and Flora is now our favorite. It is not a cheap daily eatery, but every item we had in the four-course meal was excellent. The asparagus salad and the strawberry citrus salad were perfect, the crabless cake was excellent, and the potatoes it was on were sensational. The lentil stew was expertly seasoned, and the corn chip topping made for an wonderful texture highlight. The dessert was beyond great - the vegan peanut butter ice cream was like cold pudding, and the creme brûlée was one of the best I've ever had. Truly exceptional. We have already begun talking about bringing my mother there for her upcoming birthday.
Flora is such a welcome addition to Jenkintown! The food is really lovely, and the service and ambience are great. Most of the portion sizes are great (they should really get rid of the bowls with very little openings like what the soba noodles come in), and the offerings are very imaginative. I highly recommend it!
For those whom have not tried this gem, I can only suggest you should. If you enjoy wonderful flavors, beautiful presentation and unique cuisine, this is one of the few places anywhere near bye that can make the claim. Vegan seems to scare people. This is a mistake. I eat meat, fish, and anything good, which we find hard to find in the neighborhood. This restaurant is great, an absolute treat compared to the food you get a most of the other area restaurants.
My husband and I are not vegan, in fact if we are dedicated omnivores, however we challenged ourselves to a Vegan week and decided to treat ourselves after reading good reviews of Flora. We did the $40 prix fixe which included 3 courses and dessert. It was absolutely incredible, we were amazed at how delicate, delicious and satisfying a total plant based meal could be. This place is a definite winner for both vegans and those, like us, who were just experimenting. We will definitely return to this super fab BYOB.
(just a hint, they are cash only!)
This is a prix fixe menu that you can choose either 3 courses or 4 (dessert) from. The best part of my meal was the Mushroom Barley Risotto. It was good but my wife had the crabless crab cake which was ok at best. The worst part was the dessert. I ordered the chef's tart of the day which has the consistency of pudding mixed with Elmer's white glue. Not much flavor and ultimately inedible.
A slight mishap at our table and the staff went above and beyond to rectify. The food and the service here are great.
Very few totally vegan restaurants around the Philadelphia area. Nice fresh and seasonal option to choose from.I liked everything that we order although my Crabless Cake was a little too salty for my taste. They have a Sunday Brunch which I would like to try . Anyone who is Vegan, vegetarian should try Flora.
Having been blown away by the Prix fixe dinner I recently enjoyed at Flora, I returned with a friend to sample the a la carte brunch. Wow. Brunch was amazingly delicious and the place was hopping. Definitely make a reservation!
We have eaten here several times. This restaurant is also great for meat eaters also. Of course there is no meat but they do great things without it. Vegan is tough if you actually consider creating a meal. Just let these guys do it for you. Simply out of this world. We also like the waiter.
Great place to experiment with vegetarian cuisine as the food is quite innovative and delicious. The space is very minimalist and the service is limited but it is still worth it. Bring cash until they get with the program and accept credit cards;)
It was a pleasure to try this restaurant. I am not a vegetarian but went with some friends one of which happens to be. I thoroughly enjoyed all 4 courses. I had the arugula salad, green beans, shepherds pie, & carrot cake. They were all delicious! I also tried a friends tomato and eggplant soufflé as well as the blueberry compote dessert both were amazing as well. I highly recommend this restaurant.
I loved how cute this place was. The owner is so kind and checks on you just the right amount. Will be going back soon.
Take one tiny, charming neighborhood restaurant, add an amazing Prix fix seasonal menu to charm foodies and vegans alike, and you have the lovely Flora experience. Weekend reservations may be tough to come by, so try a weeknight and enjoy exquisite dining in an intimate setting.
We went to Flora's for Valentine's Day, a day we naturally expected to overpay. Despite walking in there already expecting this, we still left disappointed. We knew they were serving a special pre fixed 5 course menu that day, but we never expected that there would be no options for any of the courses (except desert). Most restaurants, when they offer a pre fixed menu, give 2 or 3 options for each course. It's not usually a "this is what we have, this is what you get" deal. I feel that they erred in not giving that option, especially for the price they charged. I was really looking forward to trying a new (to us) vegan restaurant, and well, like I said, we left disappointed.
My partner and I had a wonderful experience at Flora this past Valentine's weekend. The menu is smart and diverse and the food itself is prepared beautifully. The four star ratings in Food and Value have primarily to do with somewhat uneven portions among the dishes. Staff was great! I highly recommend this restaurant.
Loved our Valentine's Day 4-course price fixed meal. The portion sizes are on the small side - picture double-tapas size portion, but the flavors are terrific. Service was excellent and that is to be expected since the restaurant only seats 16.
I'll be back for sure.
We looked at the prior reviews and decided to try Flora. When we ordered our food I was excited about the choices - however, the portions were so small we were starving even after all four courses. We asked the waiter for more bread and they refused stating they only had enough for one slice per customer. What a waste of money and time!!!!!!!
Cash only restaurant!!
Went with my wife. Small and intimate setting. Attentive service. Creative and tasty food. Tiny bit salty, but still very good.
Recommmended. Will definitely return. One of the better places in Jtown.
Flora was a find, even though it has been in the neighborhood for a year. Lovely prix fixe dinner of fresh veggies in a variety of wonderful forms. Service was wonderful. Turns out our server Dan, is the majority owner of Flora. Extremely nice young man. I wholeheartedly recommend Flora. Yummy.
I am vegan, and I came to Flora to celebrate my birthday. Everything was so delicious; I loved the balance of flavors and textures. The dishes were presented beautifully. Very intimate setting. Can't wait to go back!!
I had high hopes based on the reviews, but left disappointed. Portions were small, which in and of itself isn't a bad thing, but my dining companion chose 3 items that were on the smaller side of small and left feeling hungry. Our courses were inconsistent. The black-eyed pea fritters were very good. The accompanying marinara had a very full flavor that is often lacking in veggie sauces. The mushroom crostini was good, but the sherry vinaigrette I found off-putting. The roasted tri-color carrots consisted of 6 little carrots and lacked flavor. The pan-seared brussel sprouts were really good, but we found the balsamic reduction to be too sweet. My dining companion ended her meal with the spicy cauliflower wings which consisted of 4 little waffle bites, and maybe 6 pieces of cauliflower that tasted more like vinegar than anything. In retrospect we thought the amount of vinegar had to be a mistake. Maybe had we returned it they would have fixed it. I ended my 3 course meal with the shephards's pie that I thought was great and filling. My companion opted for the four course option and ended her meal with a piece of carrot cake that had the appearance of corn bread with a tiny dollop of icing on it, and tasted more like spice cake. Cake needs icing- at least my friend thought so. Service I also though was pretty quick, and rushed. Overall, Flora was ok, but I won't be heading back anytime soon.
The savory food was really good, but I got the blueberry cobbler for dessert and it was awful. Way too many blueberries, the "cobbler" was hard and tasted like nothing, and the accompanying lemon poppy seed ice cream didn't really add anything.
We hail from Seattle, but visiting home in Philly to visit my parents. I guess I'm spoiled with all of the great vegetarian options on the West Coast, but it was hard for us to find some dining places here in town. I was happy that I spotted Flora in Jenkintown as an option. Everything was pretty good - The eggplant steak and the black eyed fritters were unique. You can probably safely pass on the dessert though, we weren't too impressed with the two desserts that we tried.
Flora was a delightful surprise and we will go back whenever we are in Philly. It is close to family and gourmet vegan. As vegans from a less cosmopolitan area we do not have choices like this.
The food was as good or better than Charlie was a Sinner and Blue Sage , prices were fair and it is a BYOB.
Waht could be better.
Innovative and tasty food served with beauty and sophistication .
All four courses were perfectly prepared, and every little thing was perfectly cooked, flavored, and presented. The pace of the four courses was surprisingly quick, and we wished at times that we had more breathing time between courses. But overall an impeccable culinary experience.
Great and clean food. Love that it's based on local and seasonal vegetables - no tofu or seitan in sight. Wonderful addition to the neighborhood. It was the perfect low key date night restaurant for us.
Awesome meal. Bring your friends so you can try every dish. So worth sharing to taste everything on the menu.
Making the most of the small space, Flora serves good food that sometimes approaches gourmet, at prices that are reasonable for the area. We found the ambiance somewhat lacking, could have used a dimming of the lights for one thing. Service was excellent, and the four-course meal my wife and I had was ample without being overly generous. This is a good choice for couples, bring some wine, and reservations are a must, especially on weekends.
We have one one vegetarian in our group that always goes to steak restaurants with us and ends up ordering salad and vegetables for herself. It was now her time to pick the restaurant! The men in the group were not happy about it, but agreed to give it a try. They were not disappointed! They enjoyed every mouthful, in fact they couldn't get over how good it actually was. They even agreed to go back another time. The restaurant is small and quaint and the wait staff very helpful with explaining all the dishes. The men ordered the eggplant as the main entree and said it was fantastic.
Surprising menu of flavorful vegan dishes. Knowledgeable staff willing to share dish ingredients. Small space with tables close together and a certain noise volume so not a romantic spot to dine. BYOB. Will definitely be going back.
Flora may not fit the bill for everyone, but my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. We are not Vegan, but had heard very positive things from friends and read positive reviews on line, so we were interested in giving Flora a chance. We were not disappointed. The choices were original, perfectly spiced and interesting. The portions are sized appropriately for the set priced, 3-4 course options. The menus are seasonal and reflect the best fresh local ingredients. We will return.
Portions are a bit small
Food is excellent. Service is very personal. Lovely BYOB
