Ambience is chic and elegant. All the dishes were fresh and well balanced!
Beautifull restaurant , good location . Food pleasant change , fairly expensive , but for a special occasion , worthwhile . Lots of competition for similarly priced establishments
Ok food, but really not a patch on what we have enjoyed in Portugal. Prices somewhat OTT.
Lovely decorations and furnishings, but an absurd level of noise and vibration from the air conditioning which was frankly rather uncomfortable. I raised the issue with two wait staff, but the racket continued throughout our meal.
Poor food quality. They served us a cold steak and overfrozen hardened sorbet that we couldn't even eat. Poor service quality. Save your money
A poor experience made worse by an arrogant manager/owner who clearly lacks an understanding of how to create a fine dining experience. Just a few of the incidents that transpired:
1. We were told 7 minutes before the kitchen closed that one of the mains we ordered was no longer available.
2. It took 62 minutes before our appetizer (oysters) were brought out. The manager/owner happened to be walking by our table approx. 45 mins after we ordered, and we asked if it was possible the kitchen had forgotten to process our order. She dismissed us, saying 'it takes time to shuk the oysters' (perhaps this woman did not understand that it does not take 45 minutes to shuk 12 oysters?)
3. Caviar was brought out more than 75 minutes after we ordered, well after the champagne we ordered the caviar with was done (any fine dining resto understands that when a patron orders champagne and caviar together, they are intended to be SERVED together, not an hour apart!)
4. The only main course we ordered took 2 full hours to arrive - and we had already asked the waiter to cancel the order and bring us the bill.
5. Another table voiced a concern to the manager/owner about the poor service and pacing, and her reaction was, 'This isn't fast food - it takes time' (I actually went to the other table to console the customer and explain that others in the dining room were equally annoyed)
It was this last comment to the other table that motivated me to write this review. This woman seems to believe that her customers have never dined at top tier restaurants before; as if everyone in the room had only eaten at Pizza Pizza in the past. She didn't seem to have any clue that her customers were actually sophisticated foodies, nor did she care.
Overall, this place ruined our night and we'll never go back. Nor should anyone else.
Christina and staff do a great job of making you feel at home. The Mediterranean Portuguese menu offer many choices for a unique experience.
Has no ambiance. Service was terrible. Food And alcohol is very overpriced.
Everything at flor de sal was great! The staff was super friendly and knowledgeable of their food. The ambiance was beautiful. The only complaint I had was the noise of Davenport, which is hard to avoid when sitting on the patio. Will definitely be back, hopefully sitting at the chefs table!
The meal was Good however I found it grossly overpriced. We ordered the octopus which was very good and well priced. The mushrooms were also good but definitely not worth over $20 for 6 pieces. The cataplana was excellent - the fish and the slightly spicy sauce went beautifully together. The scallops however, were definitely not up to par. They were overly salty (yes I know they are supposed to be salty but this was overboard) and the pork belly skin should have been crispy - it was chewy and gelatinous, very disappointing. Get the natas for dessert, they are as authentic as it gets. Oh and the fries are not fries - just really thick cut potatoes .... I definitely don't recommend them.
Great meal at the Chef's table! Thanks for being such wonderful hosts. Food was outstanding - will never forget the Sardines!
First Date went Great!
I was very excited to come to the restaurant with my friends, as a special treat. I loved great reviews and the look of the place. Usually, we can afford majority of great looking restaurants, so I didn't bother to look into menu and pricing. Trusted the feedback.
The look of the restaurant was everything I expected. Beautiful. Nice presentation, comfortable seats, nice tableware, and pleasant staff.
We were greater by the owner, she was very welcoming. We were very excited.
The wine selection was ok, and I was surprised to see the cheapest wine by the glass starting from $17. The server could not even tell the difference between two wines we were interested in. Same for food recommendation- it feels like server got lost, and he was servicing more of an order taker than an experience driver.
We ordered octopus and mushrooms as our appetizers. They were great. We liked zucchini flower and pear sorbet as chef's treats, that was thoughtful. I got very disappointed with my scallops - the dish itself was very fatty, the rabbit, that my husband ordered, was over salted. So, to be honest not worth of $40 per dish.
After all, nothing bad happened, we had good time with our friends, but going forward, there are better options for $400 dinners.
We were greeted warmly by Christine (the owner) and shown to a nice table at the top of the stairs - this restaurant is not for the mobility impaired. I am not a fan of Banquette / bench seating as it is hard on my back and uncomfortable for a long meal. I would replace that with better chairs. Drinks were well prepared and were served quite quickly - that was the end of the quickness. As the restaurant became more busy, the service slowed down. The waiter could have sold another bottle of wine if he would have been more attentive and topped up glasses when they were empty - we always had to wait and once even ask to be served our wine. At $100 a bottle you would expect more. We shared the Portuguese taster and the Mushroom taster place - both very good. All 4 of us ordered some type of fish and no one was disappointed. Desert was rich and yummy. There was a small mistake on the bills that was corrected quickly by Christina who offered us an extra glass of port for our trouble. I believe that our waiter needs more confidence or training to really shine in an environment of this sophistication.
Nice quite place, had lots of character but this is overpriced. The menu is very limited
Incredible service and amazing food. Will definitely go back
Portuguese food, beautifully prepared. Some unusual dishes such as mushroom appetizer and unique grilled fish . Wine list is very expensive, given the type of wine. Service can be more attentive .
Flor De Sal is a wonderful space for dining...quiet, romantic, professional, upscale...and the food is top-tier. The wine list is extensive, the servers and knowledgeable and friendly, the food is not only excellent quality but in proportions unseen at this level of cuisine...it will not leave you hungry! The octopus was perfection, the salted cod was spot on, and the steak was at a calibre worthy of its surroundings. An amazing selection of desserts topped off the evening for our wedding anniversary dinner. Highly recommended...we will definitely return!
This place was amazing!! Everything was perfect!! I would definitely go back and highly recommend it.
Truely a great evening. Looking forward to returning soon.
Wonderful local gem with great food and service. Small rooms throught make a pleasant change from the large open plan restaurants that pop up everywhere
Great food, great service, great ambiance. Pricey but worth it.
Sadly this wasn't one of my better dining experiences. While presented as fine dining on the website, the overall experience will not have me returning. It was our wedding anniversary and we were looking forward to some great food and ambiance to go with it. My Piri Piri shrimp was good as was the octopus my husband enjoyed. However, my main, the monk fish was over salted and for the price point I was expecting more. I should have ordered the lamb as my husband did - very, very good. Seasoned well, cooked perfectly. For dessert, if you are lactose intolerant like my husband, there isn't much for you to enjoy.
While the restaurant is beautiful, white table cloths, elegant chairs, the tables were too close. We had the unfortunate situation of being seated next to a table where the extent of their vocabulary was nothing more than expletives and heard nothing but their complaints about their "help" and where they should build Ontario's prisons-away from their rather great neighbourhoods where they live. Then went on to speak about the need for gated communities to keep out the crazies. We sitting at the next table were seemingly an inconvenience to them as we attempted to enjoy our meal.
The wait staff, while efficient, (and hearing this conversation too), seemed stiff and cold. But I will say thank you for remembering it was a special occasion for us and saying happy anniversary.
Overall, while beautifully appointed, the food was a mis-step and for the value; it missed the mark.
Where do I begin? One of the worst dining experiences I've had in a long time.
-We ordered a half bottle of sparkling, the waiter brought both champagne and sparking and asked us which one we ordered again?
-It was so dark while I was eating so I asked for another candle, he came back 15 minutes later with a flashlight.. how do you expect me to eat while holding a flashlight.
-We were sitting waiting for the server to order dessert for 20 minutes, when he took our order, he came back 10 minutes later and said there was none left so we placed our second choice option
-When reserving the table i specifically stated it was for a 29th birthday. Also re-confirmed when they called to confirm conservation, no candle or anything was done.
-Had to flag down another waiter to get us the bill, when we asked where our server was she said "i have no idea where he went"
Terrible experience and extremely overpriced.
Great food and very well designed restaurant. Felt cozy
Great food and Christina is so nice
Lovely decor, attentive staff, great food. What more could one want for an intimate evening.
Absolutely phenomenal, period. A definite must and often.
Always great food at one of the finest restaurants in the city.
It was very good will definitely be going back
Only a small issue with the length of time the dessert took but all the other courses came out at perfect timing
As always excellent service, food and ambiance. The owner is ever present making certain the experience is the best it can be. Highly recommended. A secret gem.
It was overpriced for what it was. The food was good but nothing really blew us away. I also didn't appreciate that when they posed "sparkling or flat water" they didn't specifically mention "tap" as the third option so we ended up paying for bottled flat water. Almost at the end of the meal the waitress opened a second bottle of water, for some reason...even though we were almost done. So we got charged 15$ for two bottles of water and drank 1.25. I guess they just expect you to be there to blow money.
Top notch food and service. Quiet and relaxing atmosphere. Highly recommend.
A splendid evening, food was delicious, wine list was ample and ambience inviting. The owner Cristina was generous with her time and engaged us in wonderful conversation.
As always, Flor de Sal was a great experience! Wonderful food and ambiance! The manager is very energetic and kind! One of my favourite places!
The ambiance is lovely, but the service was extremely erratic. So many of the little details that one expects to have in a great restaurant, were just not on target that night. We were seated without menus, and only after about 10 minutes (with no one stopping but many servers passing by, even though it wasn't yet very busy) were we able to catch someone's eye to ask for menus. Suffice to say, it was 20 minutes before we had our half bottle of Bollinger. An excellent restaurant would have seated us with menus and immediately asked if we would like a cocktail or bubbly, especially on Valentine's Day. The food was generally good, but also erratic. Amuse bouche was lovely, and so were the oysters. However, our appetizers, though quite good ,were not well timed - they arrived as we were still finishing our oysters, and then we had to wait for the accompanying wine to arrive, even though we had asked our server to ensure that our wine arrived to accompany the courses we had chosen. One main was very good, the other was just not sure what it was meant to be. We had thought we might discover a true jewel in the neighbourhood, and it was ok, but we had hoped for more. The service level needs to be dramatically improved to ensure a great experience.
Outstanding food, great service and friendly atmosphere
Wonderful setting, owner is very welcoming and the food was beautifully presented
Lovely space, but the food was not very good. The steak was not seasoned well enough and the gravy had a film on it when it arrived at the table. Very expensive for the quality. The cataplana's fish was overcooked and tough. Would not return.
The food was absolutely delicious. Service from our waitress (Adele) was impeccable.
Overall 5 STAR.
