About

Flint Hill Public House has reconstructed a country schoolhouse into a restaurant and inn that is nestled within the countryside of Virginia. Enjoy a dinner of rib-eye steak or baby back ribs along with locally sourced baked potatoes, caramelized corn or creamed spinach. Flint Hill Public House also serves several seafood dishes including fried oysters, grilled blackened catfish sourced from the surrounding areas and whole lobster. The full bar offers many beverages that will pair nicely with your entrée selection or as stand-alone drinks. A unique cocktail menu is available as are many craft brews from the Virginia area. Based on reviews on the Open Table website, and on the fact that the location was not far off of our travel path, we chose the Public House in Flint Hill, VA as our dinner dining option while on the way home from Shenandoah National Park's Skyline Drive. We drove up to a wonderfully decorated property with well kept grounds - providing a great view from the restaurant inside. We were seated immediately by the hostess and our server provided attentive, friendly service at a good pace throughout our meal. We sat in a well padded booth next to the Christmas tree, with windows looking out on the front nearby. Our appetizer was prepared promptly and tasted great. My sons had shrimp scampi and pasta alfredo, I had chardonnay chicken and my husband had the beef brisket. Each of us was thrilled with the flavor of our meal. The wine pairings suggested by our server complemented our food very well. The creme brulee and the mousse desserts were quite delicious. Overall, we were very pleased with the Public House offerings, and have deemed this place " A KEEPER" for future dining options! Well done, Public House staff, we will return!

Flint Hill is a beautiful part of Virginia especially in the fall, but there aren't a lot of quality dining choices nearby. The Publick House is worth a visit - it's as pretty and welcoming as a fine restaurant, but reasonably priced with down-home selections like pork ribs (full or half-rack) and steak. The ice tea with locally made Copper Ridge rye is a terrific cocktail. You can eat in the bar or in the more elegant dining room, but don't have to dress up. Jeans work fine here, even on Saturday night.

Great place, I'm ok with the modern decor...liked the old farmy look better...but the food is delicious and the back patio is wonderful in spring!

Great as alway's. The big bonus for dog owners is that you can take your extended family and enjoy a beautiful back yard setting. Food is prepared to order and outstanding. Dog menu as well. Staff always polite and spot on.

This restaurant, out in rural Virginia, is excellent. If you are in the concentric circle of Castleton Festival, Sperryville, Little Washington, consider the short drive to Flint Hill. The Public House, on Zachary Taylor Highway, won't disappoint. They serve anchovies on their Caesar salad, like a Caesar should have, so heads up. Our server was Tabby, very attentive.

Flint Hill Public House was recommended to us by the inn that my husband and I were staying at over the weekend. After hearing mixed reviews from other guests we decided to take a shot and give it a try. The dining room was beautifully decorated and we were seated promptly upon arrival. Our waitress was knowledgeable and able to make suggestions at our request. My husband and I ended up choosing the crab cakes and catfish per her recommendation. Unfortunately both entrees were quite a let down. The catfish was raw in the center and the crab cakes were runny and served with almost raw red potatoes. I love potatoes, so trust that this was not a deal breaker for me, but the crab cakes left left much to be desired. My husband and I both have many years of experience in the fine dining industry, so we are not ones to complain unless something is truly undercooked. Upon informing the waitress of our problem with the catfish, she returned to say the chef was sorry and that the cut was rather large and must have been the reason for the poor prep of the dish. At no point did the chef offer to further cook the dish or offer a dessert to make up for the poorly cooked dish. My husband and I were not looking for a free meal by any means, but when a chef acknowledges the reality of a problem and nothing is done that is a true breakdown in customer service. We will not be returning on our next visit to the area.

We ate here on Saturday May 2. It was delightful. The beautiful weather and the outside seating added to our enjoyment of our wonderful sandwiches. I had the BBQ pork which was tasty and tangy. My friends had other sandwiches that were equally delightful. We all enjoyed a piece of the coconut cake baked by a neighborhood local. It was moist with just the right amount of sweetness.

Good home cooked food. The brisket was tasty and tender although there was a big piece of fat on my plate. Smashed potatoes were awesome. The tequila chicken was good with just enough heat to remind you that it was Mexican food. It was supposed to ebserved over a salsa verde risotto . I saw e salsa verde but not the risotto. The corn salsa was refrigerator cold and served over the chicken so it immediately cold off he chicken.

FHPH is a great little restaurant out in the beautiful country. The staff, to include the manager and head chef, are accommodating and extremely personable. It is about a 25 minute drive from Warrenton, VA. We have been there three times in the last three weeks! Brunch is awesome. This last visit was for Steak night. Super reasonable prices for the specials. And I like that they offer a large selction of VA wines on the wine list.

So...this place is amazing. We went there for Sunday brunch on the way to a nearby winery. This is my second trip to Flint Hill Public House for brunch. I have enjoyed both visits. I liked what I ate both times. Reasonable prices and adequate portions. First time we sat inside and this time outside. There was a jazz player and the weather was perfect. It was a clean and bright otudoor eating area and the grounds were impeccable.

Outdoor seating, excellent choices for brunch, you can take your dog(s) and relax while enjoying good food, good service, and excellent scenery. I would go again and would especially like to try it for dinner. Doggy menu as well. Outstanding and fun.

So often I think that the valley is overlooked as a dining destination yet we have so many great restaurants to choose from and the Flint Hill Piblic House one of them. Highly recommend as a fine dining excursion

the food was very good- chef came out and said hello-nice touch
we didn't see the patio when we first arrived, and would have sat out back- they had entertainment- and looked like a nice set up.

The inside dining area is beautiful and modern and we chose to eat outside, which I think was a better choice because the weather was wonderful and the garden is pretty. The food is quite good too and could hold its own with any Washington, DC downtown establishment. As an app we had the fried mozzarella, which were fried disks of cheese with Parmesan shavings, excellent. I had the catfish with lemon risotto, which was lovely with a side of lemony asparagus, add a great glass of wine and it was perfect. My partner had the chardonnay chicken, which he says was really good. The service was uneven and that may have been because of staffing. Our waitress as doubling as waitstaff and bartender when other people started showing up.

Great dinner once again at our favorite local restaurant. Prime Rib was fantastic, as were the fried pickles and fried green tomatoes. Service was great and they always appreciate your business and make you feel welcome. Can't wait to go back!

A group of us running friends run through Flint Hill every year for the annual Fodderstack 10k. And every year when we run past "The Publuc House" we say we need to try it. I wish we hadn't waited so long! This place was fantastic! Our waitress rocked. There was so much variety to choose from. The prices were reasonable. An extensive wine list with simple pricing. The food was delicious. Beautiful setting inside and out. We will be back!

My wife and I will be back at the Public House for a neighborhood group dinner this week. We're looking forward to it. My only criticism of the restaurant is that the entrees are often swimming in butter. We make a point of asking our server to tell the kitchen, "Easy on the butter."

My husband and I have driven past the Flint Hill Public House many times and always commented that we should try it. Well, on Valentine's Day weekend we decided to have dinner there. The decor is modern but uninviting and cold. Our server was very pleasant but not quite attentive enough. The food was sorely lacking....the prime rib was extremely fatty and gristly and my lobster was overcooked. We were very disappointed over all.

Overall a great experience. Friendly service. Patio was nice and they allow you to bring your dog if you want! The $25 a bottle for all of your local wines is great! Try the fried oysters topped with BBQ pork.

Good food (not exceptional, but very solid). Pleasant dining room. We always stop here for lunch when we are in wine country for the day. It is close to several excellent vineyards. The service is always friendly and the lunch prices are very reasonable. Would highly recommend it!

The food was outstanding! The wait staff was knowledgeable and attentive without smothering. Great selection of local wines paired with dinner. The Owner and Chef each stopped by the table to check on satisfaction. Save room for the pumpkin mousse and the white chocolate key lime and pecan pies. This restaurant is a 5- star gem... You better get there before the word of mouth makes it impossible to get a reservation.
