Would I recommend Flex to friend? Yes, but would recommend they request a server other than Vik - he made my otherwise nice brunch an unpleasant experience by giving total attitude when I simply asked about the Lobster Blat on the menu. I've never heard of a blat, but could discern from the description that it was some sort of sandwich, so I asked "what is the lobster blat all about?". The look on Vik's face, and corresponding hand gestures, were half 'you're an idiot' and half 'I'm irritated you're asking this'. "It's a sandwich." (Thanks, Captain Obvious). So I tried to probe beyond what I could obviously already read on the menu by asking a bit more, and he looked completely annoyed and said "what's your question?" I held my tongue and ordered the sandwich, but even my friend who was dining with me wondered why Vik had to be so arrogant and unhelpful. Good food, but the extra serving of attitude from Vik left a bad taste.
This was our first dining experience at Flex Mussels. My wife and I enjoyed the ambience and service. The restaurant has a nice New York vibe. My wife enjoyed her spicy green salad and fish tacos. My mussels with traditional sauce was not very flavorful and the kale salad had minimum amount of cheese and pine nuts. Although the food was fairly priced, I thought the wine was expensive for the quality.
Finally, there were limited entree options if you do not like mussels. The website menu is inaccurate and should be updated.
The food tastes just as good as the pictures look! We love!! :) :) :)
Great food & Great service. Definitely going again.
The mussels are absolutely amazing
They have amazing matches in their branded match books
It was amazing. The best mussels I have ever had; the sauce was great but even the quality of the mussels were perfect. Great date spot.
Service and food were excellent! Noise level was high and tables were too small. Everything our waiter recommended we tried and it was super. Too stuffed to try dessert.
The best mussels in the City! Flex Mussels is our go to restaurant when we want to have a feel good meal. Great food and wonderful service.
Great food, but the greeting is inept and based upon rules they have to ask the manager about. “ Can we be seated so we can order drinks? Are you all here—if not I have to ask my manager” the dining room was not full the entire two hours we were there.
Flex never disappoints. Save room for the donuts, PB&J are the best!
Went for my husband's birthday. Made a reservation few days prior to that knowing that it will busy. My husband arrived in time and I was running late since coming from upstate. Gave an early notification that will be 15-20 min late. The host didn't make an effort to accommodate us. Just said that if I don't show up in 15 min my reservation will be cancelled. My husband decided to get a drink at the bar and was chased away by the bartender who said there is a wait list, which the host never made him aware of. When I arrived we were offered the smallest table at the restaurant. We were then sitted outside, when after placing the order we found out that the table was reserved and we have to move again. It was sad that the host didn't read the note that we were celebrating a special event. Despite that the food was great and both servers were fabulous.
Why I don’t get points ???Restaurant the food was very good except French fried $ 8.00 over priced
What a fun spot! Mussels were perfectly prepared, and I could have dunked bread into that yummy sauce for hours. Really friendly servers, too. And I'm obsessed with those witty paintings of the sea and its inhabitants...
Great spot for drinks, a friendly dinner, date, etc.
Always a good time, always good food, always like going there.
I cannot eat mussels anywhere else! Flex is the absolute best!
I have been to Flex Mussels around 5x over the past few months and each time I have noticed the same few things.
I have never been to the restaurant without a reservation, which is good because I have a feeling you'd never get a seat otherwise.
Despite having a reservation, I have consistently had to wait to be seated (last time I waited 20 minutes after my scheduled reservation). What's the point of making a reservation if they are going to make you wait? We thought about leaving, and honestly, we should have. Very rude to make a reservation wait 20+ minutes to be seated.
Secondly, the hostess is RUDE! When asked if we could sit at another table (same size, just farther away from the center), she said no because they were "very full"... it was 5:30 pm and there were maybe 2 other dining parties in the dining room... she also said that "they had just opened" so we'd have to wait for 'service'... why have 5:30 reservations if you cannot accommodate them? Do you "open" at 5:30 or at 6?!
The food is OK, although seems to take FOREVER to come out. I have been cooking mussels for years and I KNOW you are supposed to throw away any mussels that are still solidly shut after cooking-- I have found several completely shut ones in my bowl, which makes me wonder if the kitchen really knows what they're doing...
I hope this place gets their sloppy service sorted out. You cannot be this dysfunctional and slow in NYC.
Great selection, excellent food, great service. Can't wait to go back
Christina our server made it a fun dining experience. She is a true professional
Our first time there after an afternoon at the Metropolitan Museum. Creative menu, who knew you could have 23 entree’s of mussels 🤙
Jack is a great waiter!!!!
After a week-long mussle-craving during our NYC visit, we booked a table here on a Thursday night. It was packed inside and the tables were full with yummy looking food. We sat in the back where the AC was a bit to cold to our comfort, but other than that the place is super cosy and we could peak into the kitchen which is always a treat. The service was prompt, genuine and very attentive. The recommended truffle fries came with perfect mayonnaise, and the bread was fresh and crisp and refilled before we could ask. The absolute stars of the night were, of course, the mussles! We had an Italian one with lots of fresh tomato, garlic, basil and fresh chillies and the Thai one, so rich in flavour but still allowing the mussles to steal the show. At this moment in the season they are small but o-so-tasty, and at FM they knew exactly how to prep them perfectly.
As always, this place is amazing. Food, service and wine was awesome.
Great mussels oysters go here all the time for oyster descriptions are right on
Great first time experience for 2 of the 3 in our group. One had been previously and was the impetus for making the reservation.
Went on the early side Saturday, after a trip to the Met. As usual, we had a lovely dining experience. Good air conditioning, excellent service, and yummy mussels. I had the Bangkok style. Their truffle fries are a treat, and don’t miss the donuts!
Consistently great food and very neighborhood feel. Terrific drinks and the dessert is outstanding!
Some of the best oysters I've ever had! A really great meal with the family.
Great mussels! And great oysters! Try the donuts for dessert! This place is a favorite!
Visited on Friday night around 9. We had a reservation but the table wasnt ready right away. the hostess insisted that
I went there for seafood and yet the seafood was not good. The shrimp tasted frozen and fishy, the mussels were just okay. We ordered them with lobster and they gave us 2 pieces that were so small we laughed and thought it was a mistake. We also ordered a kale salad that was less than mediocre. The only thing that was good was the gelato dessert, which they outsource from a gelataria in soho! And for such an underwhelming meal, it was quite expensive! I would literally never go back again.
Lovely and trendy date night location. Although quite loud, the environment, service, and food (we had the Thai mussels and the San Daniele mussels for dinner and the crab guacamole as an appetizer. Save room for the donuts!) made for an excellent evening.
Wonderful evening with friends. Our server was the bet. Patient with first timers and offered wonderful suggestions for wine! Definitely a hit with everyone.
Service and food is wonderful. Very family friendly. We brought our under one infant and our server, Vic, was kind enough to bring hot water to our table so we could warm up her baby formula.
the special dish was nothing special and the mussels were overcooked, as was the shrimp. The Mussels with fra diavolo sauce were good but not very spicy
Nice place with good mussels! Fun. Very noisy but ok.
Best mussels in town
Delicious options, great seafood, serving sizes appropriate and great pairings
