Our new top neighborhood spot! Food, service and atmosphere were awesome! Starting with the food: We had "burnt fingers" and octopus for appetizer. Both delicious and very satisfying. Cooked to perfection. The burnt fingers come with fried shrimp, calamari and oysters. Light breading and were very delicious. Octopus appetizer was cooked perfectly and are complemented with beans and chorizo. For the main, we had mussels in Thai, Fra Diavolo and Bisque. Each were better than the other. My daughter had the fish and chips. She loved it. Dessert ended up being the surprise of the night. Donuts were over the top awesome! Lemon Meringue Pie was also excellent! Without a doubt, we will be coming back for all of this incredible food we had. I can't say enough good things about this place. There's a good reason why this place is always booked. Be prepared to overeat!
Great food. Absolutely love the mussels. Great service and good prices for what you get. I have been there a few times already and they never fail to impress me. :)
Food and wine are delicious especially the truffle fries and salted caramel donut!
I had a friend visiting that I brought here based on many great previous meals. Unfortunately this visit was not as great, our fish & chips were soggy and mushy, our mussels were very dry and the prices were all not equivalent to the value of the food. We were happy to spend on a nice meal, but unfortunately this time the food fell short. The octopus was great, though which helped!
This place was great. The staff was friendly and the food was outstanding. The cocktail menu was very limited but the drink i had was superb ( The One Spicy Tequila). The tables were a little bit too close to each other. I felt like I was on a date with the couple next to us. Other than that our experience was wonderful and we would definitely recommend it and we will definitely be going back.
We chose 3 pots of mussels for the table and shared: the Italiano, the Thai and the Dijon. All were delicious. Truffle fries were hot and crispy. Our only complaint was that the plates were tiny and shallow, so you couldn’t really enjoy sopping up all the delicious juices with your bread. We couldn’t believe they didn’t provide nice big bowls, which is how mussels should be served. House made donuts for dessert were pretty good, but not the best you’ve ever eaten, although they were billed as such by our server. Service was excellent.
Excellent!! Worth the three hour drive! Waiter was fantastic!
Food is well done! basic salad with beets was very good. My son enjoyed his lobster roll but wishes itt was a bigger portion size. would visit again.
Fantastic place for great mussels. Perfect every time. Great sauces and mussels cooked to perfection. The appetizer calamari and shrimp was also melt in your mouth. Crisp, perfect wine. Fresh oysters. Tip: for value for money sit in the front bar section for happy hour.
The food was absolutely OUTSTANDING! Our server Christina was amazing and very helpful with her suggestions. We ended up choosing her favorite the thai one and we were so glad we did because it was fantastic. Love this place!
We love this place- the atmosphere, food and service are always great!!
Food was excellent and be sure to save room for a doughnut for dessert
Asked to leave table and return to bar after being there 45 minutes awaiting other guest. Very rude manager. Have NEVER been asked to give up a table when there were drinks on the table and an appetizer that was being eaten (excellent guac with crab). Love fried oysters... they were the size of quarters and I am not exaggerating. Will be a while before I return and i have been there several times and loved it.
Perfect if you love seafood and/or want to be near the Met Museum
Was too loud, too warm and stuffy. The food was okay but not worth it for the price.
Great food, but atmosphere a bit frenetic & loud
Only a foolhardy person would order Bouillabaisse in a place like Flex Mussels. Mea Culpa.
If a restaurant does not have the slightest idea of how to make it, it should not put it on the menu at an exorbitant price or it should get a chef who knows how to make it.
The version at Flex Mussels consisted of a rice and tomato soup, a few pieces of totally inedible calamari, two shrimps and a few mussels. No fish, no onions, garlic, saffron or cayenne pepper, in fact, no seasoning at all, not even salt and pepper. No rouille, no grilled slices of bread.... Why go on, absolutely disgusting.
Flex us one of our favorites and a rrstaurant we go to when we want to feel good about eating out. Great as the food and wonderful, prifessional and considerate service. it's a gem!
Overall, very good experience. Had a knowledgeable waiter, and excellent food. It was a touch loud and crowded, but definitely a worthwhile experience.
The waiter was excellent! His service was exceptional from the moment we sat down until he gave us the check. His suggestions were perfect and he was sincere.
The food was delicious and the service all around was really perfect.
We can’t wait to go back!
Parma was great. Service was overall very nice, friendly staff and prompt care. I would definitely come back.
Great variety of mussel dishes. My wife and I loved it.
Love Flex Mussels, we come to nyc twice a year and always visit. The raw oysters are guaranteed not to disappoint; the mussels are excellent, the service is top notch and the doughnuts are to die for. This last visit we were 25 mins late for our res. Because of traffic etc; we felt awful, but we called ahead, staff handled it very graciously and didn’t miss a beat. Thanks Flex for a wonderful evening. Ask for the waiter Jack at 82nd street. He’s the best.
Jack is a phenomenal waiter - attentive, knowledgeable, helpful, and professional.
Wonderful, as always!!
Love this neighborhood gem! If u want mussels this is the place! Wonderful service and management is great! Our favorite!
Good food, friendly service, quiet enough for friends to have a conversation
This place is fantastic. The selection of mussels, crab guacamole, Parm fries, and doughnuts were all spot on. Service was also incredible with great recommendations and attention. Will definitely be dining here again.
Food and service excellent but tables jammed so close together I could smell the aftershave on the guy at the next table and we were blocked in. Just too many tables jammed in and way too loud for dinner conversation. But the Thai mussels were amazing and we had a great time anyway.
The variety of mussels is great. We are from Seattle so know good mussel preparations. Flex really knows how to prepare them. The server was really outstanding and very personable. We ended up going two nights in a row since our son came unexpectedly into NYC and we decided to take him there.
Excellent mussels. I have been going there for years.
Flex specializes in mussels, and they do so very, very well. They have the biggest selection of mussel preparations in NYC, and they are all delicious...and of course given their daily volume of mussel usage, every mussel is fresh every day. I was expecting a fun, tasty evening, and my expectations were exceeded. We will definitely be returning.
Flex Mussels never disappoints. We were originally four but our fourth was late and they had to put us at a 3 person table - which was 100% fair. When our fourth arrived the hostess made it seem like pulling up a chair and squeezing was akin to crossing the Berlin Wall. Aside from that, she was very accommodating on a Friday Night in a packed restaurant with a situation that we created, so I commend her for that. The waiter was great as always and the food was perfect. It's impossible to skip the Thai Mussels or those delicious donuts!
Eat here every time I visit NYC. Food, service, ownership and ambiance all make Flex Mussel a must eatery when I'm in NYC.
Competent but overcomplicated preparation where sauces and extras overpower what should be the centre of attention. Mussels are inexpensive but the menu is anything but. Good, but not really worth the trip or the price.
Great food ! Great service !
Excellent experience from start to finish. Matt our waiter was great and mussels were amazing. Lots of different kind to choose from. I went there because Hoda on Today recommended it. Hoda thanks for your wonderful recommendation.
Flex is not as good as it used to be. The restaurant was a little too loud to make it a cozy date spot and the service was nothing special. The mussels are good but the prices have gone up so the better value is to sit at the bar and have the happy hour special.
Flex Mussels continues to do its cuisine well but be hampered by the small size of its space and the horrible din of the front room. Just standing by the bar waiting to be seated is painful due to the noise level that is out of control, especially when coupled with how cramped the place is.
Not as good as I remember, but still does the trick when you are craving mussels. Hard to hear the waiter when he was telling us the specials.
