Very enjoyable. Excellent seafood in a stylish setting without any pretension. Relaxed atmosphere for the patrons. Server was excellent: very professional, with just the right kind of friendliness--not intrusive, always prompt.

Outstanding mussels and oysters. If you like shells, this place will blow you away. Try the marseille mussels.

The beachy visuals create a brightness and roominess that don’t actually exist in the small, windowless space. Service can be erratic in correlation with the volume. But there’s a reason Flex Mussels is still so popular. Eat your way around the menu; you won’t be disappointed. My personal fave is the funghi (lardons & cream!), though Number 23 routinely doesn’t disappoint. Just keep sopping up the broth with your bread. And save room for the doughnut sampler. Salted caramel should be a requirement.

I'd recommend this place for someone looking for a bustling spot to have mussels (they've got a huge variety, ~$20-25). Studio apartment sized bar/waiting area is absolutely mobbed; it feels claustrophobic, but some might like it for the energy. The dining room has an IKEA feel with a razor sharp landscape shot covering the entire back wall, but the overall effect is strangely half decent. My girlfriend asked for broccoli rabe to be added to her mussels fra diavolo, and she got about two strands swimming around the bowl; she liked the dish nonetheless. I stuck with the classic, which was good. The donuts are a good desert but overpriced at $10 for four. Service was lousy after we ignored the waiter's mincing up-sell attempts.

Not great for couples unless you have nothing to say or no interest in hearing each other. We went there for dinner and found good quality ingredients but horrendous noise, uncomfortable chairs, and inconsistent service. Posibly a good spot for loud groups looking for a very buzzy scene.

Great selection of Mussels! Tried the dijon and it was very good. The quantity of Mussels was small though. That is why I didn't give it a 5 star.
The Kale salad was like a Caesar salad. Pretty good.

Love the "classic mussels" though the amount served seems to vary from visit to visit. One person in our party was asked if he wanted more bread, and although he said yes, the bread never arrived. Loud music volume made conversation at table a challenge at times.
Overall, a positive dining experience.

I stumbled upon this place a while ago and continue to return. It's a great meal and the variety of how they serve mussels is great. They also have great salads - including the best Iceberg Wedge I have ever had.

This is my second time at Flex Mussels and it was great yet again. Hands down the best mussels I've ever had. I ordered the Parma which was really great although if I were to go again I would try a new flavor. Great service and it was really crowded. It may have just been the night. I recommend making reservations as they the restaurant fills up fast!

Great if you love mussels, they have other things on the menu as well. My favorite mussels are the parma. If you get there early the bar area is nice and they know how to mix a good drink.

Good food, my only complaint is we came for oyster happy hour which runs until 7. We got there at 6:45 and they would not seat us for happy hour. They told us we had to get there half hour before happy hour ends. Then they should not advertise that happy hour is until 7! I was taking my friend out so we sat at a regular table and everything was really expensive!! The food was really good, not sure if it was worth the price. The portions were really large so I guess even if i had the happy hour I wouldn't be able to eat more than 1 pot. Although, we did have lots of appetizers. Overall good food, not worth full price, may go back for happy hour, but BEFORE 6:30!

A bit pricey, but servings are generous, staff is friendly and knowledgeable and the food is delicious. The oysters are particularly fresh. If the prices were a bit lower, we'd go more often. It's especially annoying that the price of the mussels do not include fries!.

Our experience as Flex Mussels was great! The waiters are so attentive and discreet. Our water glasses were never empty and out mussel shells disappeared leaving an empty bowl ready to receive some more mussel shells.

The mussels are super plump and the broths are packed with flavor. They are very true to the descriptions.

Flex mussels is also great because they are true to their reservation time - No earlier, No later.

We would say the ideal group size though is 4 but it you call ahead far enough in advance a bigger table can be created.

One thing we did not like (but this is kinda expected with mussels) are that there was some sand in the mussels. That is the only reason we gave 4 stars for food.

Enjoy! We plan to go back

Saw Flex Mussels on a Food Network show and figured I would try it out next time I was in NYC.
So glad I did. Server was outstanding. Lots of choices in regards to Mussels (almost too many). But picked the Austrian. It was great. Everyone in the place seemed to love it.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND

My husband and I had a fabulous experience. One could never imagine the many ways mussels could be prepared. I had the little neck mussels and he had the mussels provencale. Simply fabulous. The freshest mussels we have ever had. We had the fried calamari and kale salad for appy's and the key lime pie in a glass for dessert. All were outstanding. The wine list was extremely affordable. The decor was so inline with the theme of the restaurant. We loved it and can't wait to go back!

Our family went to celebrate our son's birthday. Made an early dinner reservation on Sunday so the noise was limited and the restaurant wasn't packed. We each had a different mussel pot and no one had any complaints. The best was probably the
Austrian pot - the flavors took us back to eating in Austria and Germany. Saved room for donuts for dessert which were worth the calories - so scrumptious. Friends around the world were sooooo jealous that they didn't get to celebrate with us.
