A real treat if you are a fan of mussels. Numerous choices for sauces, great fries and the donuts are to die for. Service was fast and staff were very attentive. Highly recommended.
Everything is delicious!
Always one of our favorite spots. Went for a birthday dinner and did not disappoint. Have been a few times before and always turned down dessert because we were full after the mussels, but gave the donuts a chance this time and they were excellent as well. Will definitely be back again soon. Little pricey for what it is but worth it (not sure if others feel this way considering its NYC but still).
I love this place! On of my favorites in NYC. My sister and I go here about once a month!
Always enjoy the food but would recommend not squeezing people at small table if restaurant empty
I usually dine at Flex for dinner and my past visits have always been pleasant. However, my first time having brunch there, the overall experience was quite disappointing. The food was delicious, however, booking a 2:30pm reservation posed a problem since that is when the kitchen supposedly closes. My party of 4, less 1, arrived 10 min before and upon seating was told that kitchen was closing at 2:30, that we had 8 min. Around 2:40, we were approached by management and since we were still less our 1 person, we were basically told that people usually are on time for their reservation and the person we were waiting for will not be able to order and we had to order immediately since the kitchen was waiting on us to close to prep for dinner. I still am having a hard time understanding exactly how it was allowed to make a reservation time exactly when a kitchen closes. I do not even want to think about what would have happened if we showed up exactly at 2:30, not even taking into consideration a 15 min grace period. Anyway, I do enjoy the food at this establishment and would recommend it. However, please note if a 2:30 reservation time is available for brunch, do not book it unless you plan on coming at 2, enjoy being rushed to order from the moment you are seated, or are okay with not being served food at all.
Second time at Flex Mussels. Their brunch menu is small but delicious. Try the donuts with bagel seasoning and cream cheese in the center. Not very crowded at noon. Fun place.
Been wanting to try this place forever and I finally made it for brunch! Went around 11:30am on a Saturday and it was surprisingly empty. The food was absolutely amazing though!! Everything bagel doughnuts were all that I hoped they would be and all of us loved our meals. I got the baked eggs and it was incredible. The sauce was fantastic and I can be very picky about marinara sauce. Would 100% recommend, I personally can't wait to go back!
Had to wait for our reservation but treated us with care while waiting. Nice selection of mussels obviously, and yes, the donuts were quite yummy!
Had a great time here with my wife and our old friend mereting up in NTC. The place was friendly and fun.Food was altogether delicious , creatively prepared and service was great. Will ddfiniely go again for dinner and try their brunch on future NYC visits.
Outstanding food - the best mussels I've had in years - great variety - I had the "Bombay" style, with an Indian flavor but not spicy; absolutely delicious. Ate much too much but definitely worth it.
Stellar mussels in a cozy and fun setting.
What we ate:
Burnt Fingers - Good, solid fried starter. The oyster was the star, the rest was good.
Oysters (6 from Weskeag, ME) - Nice, briny, and plump.
Parma - Mussels were perfect, broth was outstanding. Really well thought out and the hit of lemon cut through everything perfectly.
Fungi - Only eclipsed by the Parma. The porcini cream sauce went beautifully with the bacon and mushrooms as well as getting along great with mussels themselves. The rosemary was a noticeable touch as well.
Fries - Only ate a few to be honest, they were good but the bread was the best option for post-mussel dunking.
Donuts (Fluffernutter, S'mores, Blueberry, Cinnamon Sugar (plain) - The heavier two were decadent and delicious but the blueberry and plain stood above them. The plain reminded me of a beignet with a slightly softer exterior.
Service was professional, efficient, and personable.
We will definitely be back to try the rest of the mussels but will most likely skip the appetizers as the mussel portion is more than enough for a full meal.
We had a nice time dining at Flex, it was our first time. We did both the Dijon and a tomato-based sauce and shared between the 2 of us - both were delish though the Dijon is HEAVY on mustard (think sinus-clearing wasabi heavy) but I like that flavor/sensation. They provide you with ample bread for dipping in the generous portion of sauce left over. We started with peel & eat shrimp which were deliciously flavored but a nuisance (though aren't they always?). Thought the bowls of mussels in the mid- to upper-$20 range seemed more expensive than most all mussels I've seen elsewhere.
My wife and I ate here with our early teenage children, and we all loved it. The food was delicious. Thai mussels and Florencio mussels (with pesto) are our favorites! The donuts for dessert are really great. It's a fun spot with great food.
This is my third time at this restaurant. I love it the food is wonderful service too. Not so convenient from theater district but worth the 1.8 miles.
Absolutely amazing!!! Will DEFINITELY come back for more!!!
What happened to one of my favorite neighborhood places to eat?!? When a restaurant accepts an 8PM reservation they should not act if you are inconveniencing them when you arrive at 8PM; nor should dismiss you with we are running about 15 minutes behind and you can wait at the bar. In addition, if you are still waiting to be sat at 8:20PM the hostesses should at least pretend that they are sorry and again not act if you are bothering them that you would like to know when you will be able to sit for your 8PM reservation. That being said, the food is still delicious with the best fried oysters and mussels around, however, it will be a very long time (if at all) before I l return for another meal and be subjected to this behavior again.
Seated about 10 minutes after reservation time. Food was good, portions generous but service was slow. I've been here many times before and find this always to be the case. Donuts are a must, and delivered as usual
Really had a great time eating there. As a chef I have to admit that the quality and freshness of the product was really good.
Enjoyed every bite
Probably my favorite restaurant in NYC. Mussels are always amazing. The sauces are consistently great. Oysters are always fresh and ice cold. Bread and donuts are also always good. Great spot for a cozy winter meal.
Always perfectly prepared food, nice and attentive staff, comfortable.
Great experience- everything was fantastic...
Jen was my waitress, she was awesome!
Lovely evening and delicious food.
Wonderful food, very clever menu, lovely stuff, plentiful portions and great choices of music. Highly recommend.
The food was great! You got to have the doughnuts and they are amazing!
I thought it was wonderful experience, the service an ambiance was second to none.
Always great! They never disappoint and always impress people I introduce to the restaurant.
Quiet intimate atmosphere... The waitress are very friendly & accommodating... The mussels at out of the world...
We didn't know that Flex had a happy hour!
It was super! We sat at the counter and had oysters from Maine and a beautiful pot of mussels from Canada and fried clams ... and some crisp white wine.
The food was incredible, the atmosphere was fun, the restaurant was beautiful and our server, Matt, was outstanding.
Amazing service. Great cocktails good is amaze!
Was disappointed in my dinner- very few mussels in my dish, more shells then mussels which was disappointing. Service was exceptional. Not sure I will try this place again when I visit NY.
Excellent seafood specializing in mussels; the lil' sharkey oysters were absolutely delicious, fresh and cleanly shucked: GREAT!!!!! Good wines!
Great food, service (by Matt) and most important, mussels came out hot and delicious.
This is my favorite place to go when I'm in the mood for mussels! My favorite are the Thai mussels and you have to end the meal with donuts!
They KNOW how to do mussels - and their doughnuts are crazy good.
Very good but small quantities not worth the cost. Service spotty plus took half hour to get seated with a reservation made days earlier
I've been to Flex Mussels 13th street before and it was very good then. This past visit was still very good. Love the mussels and the different varieties. It a small dining space but it's cozy and has ambience. I recommend it for a nice dinner date.
We were pleasantly surprised by Flex. Everything we had was wonderful: Salmon latkes, everything savory bagel doughnuts, oysters, mussels, etc. Great service and good drinks. We all would definitely recommend it and plan to be back often.
