Flex Mussels - 13th Street Ratings and Reviews
What a wonderful Saturday night at Flex Mussels.
The service was excellent from the start to the finish.
The menu was the most interesting of all, food was prepared to perfection.
The mussels and the different combinations were creative and unforgettable.
We will be coming back .
The service is always spot. You can ask question upon question and they will describe the food to a tee, give great recommendations, know the answer, etc. The food has always been great, the ambiance is cozy and quaint. Great for bringing family and friends visiting nyc!
We went for my birthday for brunch. There was some miscommunication regarding the transition from brunch to dinner. We were there before brunch ended but had some issues with the items on the menu. Most of the food came out in a timely manner but one dish came out COLD. The pancakes, which were ordered first took a little longer and were cold and because it was after brunch there was no way to reorder and too late to order something that the person could eat. Other than that the day went well. The staff was very accommodating during this issue.
The brunch menu had so many yummy options, it was difficult to chose! The jalapeño and cheddar waffles we’re like a waffle popover - crazy good, and we had both the sweet and savory donut sampler...which by themselves are worth the trip. The bacon, egg and cheese fries were a tasty appetizer and the juevos rancheros and the Messiest Sandwich Ever (not sure if that’s the exact name) were also amazing. Bloodies were chewy (had extra horseradish) and the unlimited mimosas were crisp and refreshing. Must also mention that our waitress was lovely, attentive and happy! Can’t wait to go back for happy hour :-)
Always one of our favorite spots. Went for a birthday dinner and did not disappoint. Have been a few times before and always turned down dessert because we were full after the mussels, but gave the donuts a chance this time and they were excellent as well. Will definitely be back again soon. Little pricey for what it is but worth it (not sure if others feel this way considering its NYC but still).
I usually dine at Flex for dinner and my past visits have always been pleasant. However, my first time having brunch there, the overall experience was quite disappointing. The food was delicious, however, booking a 2:30pm reservation posed a problem since that is when the kitchen supposedly closes. My party of 4, less 1, arrived 10 min before and upon seating was told that kitchen was closing at 2:30, that we had 8 min. Around 2:40, we were approached by management and since we were still less our 1 person, we were basically told that people usually are on time for their reservation and the person we were waiting for will not be able to order and we had to order immediately since the kitchen was waiting on us to close to prep for dinner. I still am having a hard time understanding exactly how it was allowed to make a reservation time exactly when a kitchen closes. I do not even want to think about what would have happened if we showed up exactly at 2:30, not even taking into consideration a 15 min grace period. Anyway, I do enjoy the food at this establishment and would recommend it. However, please note if a 2:30 reservation time is available for brunch, do not book it unless you plan on coming at 2, enjoy being rushed to order from the moment you are seated, or are okay with not being served food at all.
