About Flea Street Cafe

Flea Street has been a Silicon Valley favorite since 1980. The atmosphere is contemporary, sophisticated and inviting. Executive Chef Charlie Parker, having cooked in Michelin Star Restaurants, recently returned to Menlo Park where he lived with his family just blocks from Flea Street. Jesse Ziff Cool, along with her remarkable staff, create a dining experience that is nurturing, soulful and memorable. The menu is a celebration of the rich Northern California food community: seafood is caught in the nearby Pacific, produce is carefully sourced from local farms, meat is grass-fed or pasture-raised to name just a few. Flea Street offers innovative yet approachable cuisine that showcases the very best of the season. Our bar specializes in martinis and unique cocktails using small batch liquors. A wine list features the best of California’s extraordinary vineyards with an emphasis on the local appellation--the Santa Cruz Mountains.

As usual , as always TFSC succeeds in every way , far out performs even establishments twice the price.
The best neighborhood gem.
They just get it right every time.

We went on a quiet Sunday evening. The food was nice (especially the lamb shoulder), but somehow the place didn't pop.

My wife and I have eaten at Flea Street Cafe a number of times, and the food is always excellent. For our most recent visit, however, we were surprised at the very small size of the entrees. Each of our entrees cost about $50, figuring in tax and tip as well as price. The size of my wife's fish entree was about 2/3 the size of a medium-sized cupcake, and I had to give her some of my lamb entree (which wasn't very large either) as a supplement. I don't recall small-sized entrees as being a problem in the past at Flea Street. But in the Palo Alto area, having to pay $50 for a very small entree, we'll be looking at equally good restaurants that provide equally high quality dinners as well as more lusty portions. Again, though, the food we had was excellent, if you're not fussy about portion size.

Our favorite farm to table neighborhood restaurant. The food is always delicious and seasonal. The biscuits in the bread basket are always a hit! Great spot for celebratory meals or just an extra special weekend dinner.

I can't believe we waited this long to make a visit. We loved the food and appreciated the thoughtful touches, and we look forward to coming back very soon.

The service we received tonight was just not nearly as good as the last time we were there a couple of years ago. The food is still as excellent as ever, but the service was lacking for us.

The always-wonderful Flea Street Cafe was yet again wonderful. The cocktails were tasty, we love the wine list (so many great CA wines), and our food was great. We shared shrimp fritters and a halibut crudo among the table then ordered the chicken, ox tail, and cod. We love the space that they've been in forever (for the 40+ years we've been going there).

Flea Street serves excellent food. The choices are varied, the quality and freshness of the food is as good as anything I have found in the bay area. It is always a pleasure to eat there.

Quiet lil restaurant that everyone looks for but never finds. This place is it! Almost don’t want to give it a good review for fear that it will stop being a cute lil place to have an amazing meal but wouldn’t do that to the place.

After an unreasonably long wait (over 20 minutes) for a properly reserved table, my date and I were eventually seated. Frankly, I'm sympathetic to turning tables, but the wait was simply too long. We were not the only delayed party; I saw at least 3 others. This is a significant issue, that is obviously not limited to just our experience. While the food was stupendous, as was the table service, the seating delay poisoned our dining experience.

The passion that this owner has for her work in the world shines through. The food is terrific and the atmosphere is not stuffy. We can’t think of a better place. Go and enjoy.

Jesse Cool is always a welcoming, comfortable place, with good food and excellent service. Jesse herself came by, and was her usual warm self: very friendly, genuinely interested in treating her customers as guests. They had a very nice amuse-bouche: half a fig in balsamic vinegar. And, as many of her wonderful biscuits as you can eat.

This is a lovely, intimate restaurant with very creative recipes. Their homemade biscuits are amazing! Wine by the glass is sold in 1/2 glass and full glass. However, the whole class looks like 1/2 glass. I deducted one star because of this. They also have an excellent wine list.

Food was not that good, even if it were cheaper. The ribs were too salty. The fried green tomatoes were unremarkable, in fact, not tasty. Everything was too pricey. I could've gotten a better tasting meal in a 2-star place.

Delicious food and excellent service. The menu is relatively limited but everything we tasted was great. The dishes looked so attractive, we could not wait to eat them. The fish was super-fresh and mouth-watering. This was our first time at Flea Street Cafe and we will definitely be back.

Wow ! This was our first time at Flea Street, and it was just great. From the moment we entered the restaurant our service and the food was outstanding. Not a lot to choose from, but what we had to choose from was great. This was some of the best food and service we ever had.
Thank you for making our anniversary a very special one.

It's a family favorite and very popular so reservations can be limited. The food quality is great and locally sourced (they grow some of their vegetables on site). The smoke trout is done in house and is superb. The roasted tomato soup was also wonderful with Maitake mushrooms. We were so full and satisfied from our first and entree courses we didn't get to try anything from the dessert menu. Perhaps next time. The table service was pleasant but nothing that made the experience exceptional. The ambience was very nice though the tables are situated relatively close to each other. It's definitely a neighborhood gem.

I come to Flea Street Cafe for special occasions and always come away happy. I love the lavender lemon drop and the way they serve it in a smaller glass with the rest in a mini carafe on the side in a bowl of ice. The gnocchi with mushrooms was so delicious with a mix of interesting flavors. I also had the tomato, peach and burrata salad which captured the taste of summer. The biscuits are hard to resist! Our waiter, Zack was professional and friendly. A perfect place to celebrate our anniversary.

Great food. Interior is a bit dated, but certainly clean. Our table was right next to the kitchen, so very busy with servers going in and out non-stop. We were also less than a foot away from the table next to us, so that was kind of a drag. Good food, although the halibut was slightly overcooked. Gnoichhi was killer.
