Flavor is a restaurant that offers Californian and coastal comfort food. Stop by on the weekend for a brunch of Benedicts, two-egg scrambles, waffles, French toast or fried chicken. Dinner menu items start with appetizers such as the seafood chowder bowl, smoked salmon crostini, creamy burrata or pulled pork sliders. Entrées include a chicken pot pie made with organic chicken, mushrooms, carrots, potatoes and peas in an herbed chicken gravy topped with a puff pastry lid. Flavor also offers several types of pizza with toppings such as pepperoni, mushroom, thyme, roasted garlic and basil.
Several seafood entrées are also available at Flavor such as the classic warm tuna melt, beer-battered fish and fries, seafood jambalaya and Dungeness crab cakes. For vegetarians, dishes include the roasted butternut squash ravioli, basil pesto linguini and the vegetarian jambalaya.

Arrived with a reservation just before the agreed upon time. Had to wait about 10-12 minutes. Arrived up stairs and was provided with an ok table in a half full upper dining area. Wait staff arrived to check on us and forgot to mention anything about the specials (had to ask during his return trip). Menu was pretty limited - a number of dishes were just a variation of another and one fresh fish choice. Cost was just at $100 with no top end dinner choices or appetizers and one mixed drink.
We eat in the area a couple of times every three months or so. Don't know if they will get a second shot.
We all enjoyed our dinner at Flavor very, very much. The entrees were to die for--true comfort food, in large quantities, and beautifully flavored. The chicken and the seafood pot pies were fantabulous--light flaky crust, well seasoned gravy in the pie--nothing too heavy or starchy--with filling of veggies and meat/fish cooked perfectly. The ribeye and a fish special were also excellent. Flavor had a friendly sportsbar atmosphere with great views of Princeton Harbor and a Warriors game playing. Tables were spread out enough that the hearing challenged among us could still enjoy our conversation amid the cheering.
The desserts were okay, but seemed a little dull after the phenomenal entrees. We will definitely return. just for those delectable entrees!
For a seafood dinner that is fresh, tasty and MUCH more than you can hope to finish, "Taste" can't be beat. We had 2 good craft beers, homemade focaccia bread with Balsamic and wonderful olive oil and sautéed spinach with garlic. There are wonderful views overlooking the Pacific Ocean and, in the other direction, green, verdant hills.
For a great meal and a very pleasant experience, try "Taste".
the service was very good but the food was not so much. I ordered the short ribs which were good but the polenta it was displayed on was flavorless and the seafood chowder was luke warm and in need of salt and pepper. I will give high marks to our wait person, she was attentive and delightful, also high marks for the oceano martini, delicious but you want to have a designated driver because they are generous with the alcohol as well.
We went for dinner the weekend after Christmas, and perhaps they were short staffed, but service was a bit slow to start. However, our server was very pleasant. I wish they would serve a larger closed container of hot water for tea as I had to keep asking for refill of hot water for my tea. All in all, it's a great place with excellent food. We will definitely revisit and bring family/guests.
Three stars for the service...Waiter friendly but just not on the ball. Cocktails took forever and the waiter and bartender spent to much time talking .The service was mediocre, wine was ordered way before entree but arrived halfway through the meal. Was not given a steak knife for my steak. On the plus side, portions good size and flavorful. Seafood Jumbalaya was spicy and plentiful but soupy, and very little rice. The brussel sprouts and the cabbage and bacon were delicious. The desserts, blueberry cheesecake and the lemon tart were just the right size and full of flavor and fresh tasting.
We were in Half Moon Bay for our anniversary. Flavor was next to our hotel, and we wanted an affordable nice dinner to end our weekend. It bills itself as serving "comfort food" so we were intrigued. It was a delightful time. I order the chicken pot pie which was huge and delicious. My wife had half a chicken. Our waitress, Denise, gave a great suggestion from their wine list. All in all, great food, great service and affordable. Loved it.
He kept checking with us to make sure we had whatever we needed. Good service, and great food every time we go. Have been to the restaurant 4 times in the last 2 months and it has been great every time. Enjoyed the good food and great service. Will visit again.
Great food and epic portions! The short rib was amazing. So tender. Very well flavored. Same for the skirt steak - perfectly done. Service leaves A LOT to be desired. That being said, if you're in the area, it's worth the trip, just be prepared to be patient
This is a great place to bring out of town guests. The drive out to the coast is beautiful and the restaurant is located right across from the beach. The burgers (beef & veg) and garlic fries are delicious, the drinks are tasty, but the chicken parmigiana was dry. Service was wonderful.
Very disappointed. Everything was a problem, from service to food (mussels were so small I question whether they were legally caught). Had a number of very good meals there over the last 9 months, but this was very poor and we brought friends, so it was doubly disappointing
The amount of food served at this place was definitely too much (we left half of each plate untouched) and the quality not that good. I'm sure a lot of it goes to waste, so you end up with an overpriced meal that doesn't taste anything special.
I would have been happy paying the same for half the food if they make up with better quality meals. It's not an elevated comfort food place, it's more of an elevated Olive Garden (in ambience and decor, food probably as bad).
I met a friend for dinner and since we don't see each other very often we look for places with good food, good service and not crowded or noisy since it's a rare opportunity for catching up with each other. Flavor exceeded our expectations; the food was great, was served piping hot and the prices were reasonable. There was no loud music blaring so we were able to visit without having to yell at each other.
Unfortunately, I don't remember the name of our server, but he was attentive without being intrusive, friendly and contributed to a wonderful evening.
Due to all the terrible traffic on the Coast yesterday, we decided to celebrate my husband's birthday at a local business. Our tall, bald, dark bearded waiter (Eric) was horrible. He had a terrible personality. He
never explained the Specials to us (like he did to all the other tables around us), he never engaged in conversation with us and he never checked on us through out the dinner. The busboys (there were 4 in his section) were ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS! They did ALL of the work that Eric should have done. If I had cash in my pocket, I would have handed it all out to the busboys. Period. As for the food.... the steaks were just OK (we've had much better) and the mashed potatoes had WAY too much garlic (we seriously could not taste the actual potatoes due to the over powering garlic taste). As Coastside Locals, we were very disappointed. We will tell others of our poor experience at Flavor. We won't be back.
We had been served our food. Bread and dipping sauce good, fish and chips, burger and pot pie were good. Portions are large and nicely presented. I was going to take my pot pie home; waitress cleared table, put the cocktail napkin on top of my plate with my food that she was to box up, and then promptly started swiping the crumbs off the table and onto my plate! I reminded her that I was supposed to take the leftovers home. The thing for her to do would have been to bring me a new one or only charge me for half of my dinner since I had 2/3 of it left. She packaged it up and put it on the table. I took it with me not even thinking about it, and threw it away when I got home. Other than that, everything else was fine. I may or may not give it another chance because of that. There are a lot of good restaurants on my side of the hill; we only drove over there to cool off since it was so hot here.
We are foodies and we ordered 4 meals. Cesar Salad was pretty good, but all of the mains were excellent; but the beef short ribs were OVER THE TOP delicious. Portions were all generous. We sat upstairs and the view was fabulous. Our server was attentive and sincere.
Overall a fabulous dinner
The food was delicious with an interesting (not huge) selection. They clearly do a short/medium length menu with high quality rather than trying to have a giant menu mediocre. Good wine variety, excellent beer variety- again not huge but a good selection. We sat on the patio to enjoy one of El Granada's rare beautiful days and service was good. Sometimes sitting on a patio can equate to bad service. Note: this was late afternoon (2 pm) so it was definitely not a busy time.
Place came well recommended in Yelp and Open Table. Menu is diverse with tantalizing items.
We had the Crab Cake Benedict and the Fried Chicken and Waffle. The Crab Cake Benedict had great flavor. The execution could have been slightly better. Served on a this sourdough biscuit, the result was a little dry. The egg was slightly over poached and/or the hollandaise sauce was sparse - fixing either of these would have made that thick base worth it to soak up all the yolk and sauce. Crab cake was amazing with (from what I could tell) zero filler. The chicken and waffle was excellent. Terrific flavor and execution. No improvement needed there.
The rest lies in the experience. Booked reservation on Open Table and requested patio because we had our pup. I was told on arrival that they don't take reservations on the patio. We had to wait a little but since we arrived early we were still seated before the reservation time. My suggestion- take patio reservations to be consistent or at least call the customer when they request the patio in the special requests section.
Next item: It was HOT! Ok, so one of the rare days this happens in Half Moon Bay. The temp isn't controllable. However, more umbrellas would have been preferable. The only thing that made it excruciating was waiting an inappropriately long time for water. Our drinks came. Our foot came. And only after we were 15% into our food did water arrive. We were told they were out of glasses. Seeing as how the water was ordered as we sat down, there is clearly room for improvement here.
Overall, great food. Definitely saw items on other tables I want to try. Flavor was excellent. Execution was good but could be better. And just need to iron out the customer communication and service kinks.
I'll be back. And you should visit of you haven't.
The manager was difficult to work with and was unwilling to accommodate a large group size without enforcing a prix fixe meal. We wanted our party to have the flexibility to order whatever they wanted from the menu without the prix fixe mandate, so we fought hard for this. He was also unwilling to accommodate a party larger than 28.
When our second party arrived, we had to wait for the manager to approve the option for us to seat everyone together, even though there were several unused tables in our area. We finally got the approval, but no one helped us move the tables and seating. We also specifically requested separate checks, which one server remembered but the other did not.
In the end, we got what we wanted, but it was not without a great deal of frustration and hard work. The manager made the process painful, but the servers were great and the food was excellent.
Have been once before, wedding rehearsal dinner. Was Excellent then, is Excellent now. Actually, had same waiter, and he knows the menu and the little tales with the items. The food was great, the service was there whenever you needed anything. Braised ribs on Palenta was perfect again. Prices reasonable for being on the coast.
