The ambiance along with the food was great. Would recommend and I will be back
My family and I used to love Flavor. We have been dining here for many years. Our past two visits have been disappointing. We did breakfast on 4/20/19 and I was highly disappointed in my meal preparation and delivery. After two failed attempts, my meal was just not cooked correctly (turkey patties were overdone the first time and I tried to replace with a different meat, but my salmon croquettes were underdone). The manager was very swift in trying to remedy the meal, but the quick repair delivered the runny salmon croquettes. My meal was refunded, but I can only say that I tried and I hate to have to give up on the place.
It clearly was a waste of my time and money. I came to the reservation and the host did not confirm it. The waitress was very forgetful. The food was very small portioned. The baby was still hungry. I had to spend more money to grab some food somewhere else. I will not be returning back to this restaurant at all.
The weekend menu is limited. This was our first time back in a while. We both had items we'd had repeatedly there before, so we knew what to expect as far as taste. We were disappointed. It's sad because we've eaten there since it's original opening in Olympia Fields. We've raved about it.... especially the sweet potato pancakes, for years. For a family of 5 the bill can get pretty high, which is fine, but I at least need the food to taste good. Our server was excellent and the overall staff was friendly, which is what you come to expect there, but unfortunately we won't be back.
The main course was very good, flavorful and well prepared. All parties were happy, the pasta was very nice. The desert, peach cobbler was not good so that was a disappointment.
The service was very slow, and at points we were the only party in the restaurant at 8 on a Friday.
I heard great things about this place but upon arrival I could see it wasn't going to be a good experience when we were not greeted just told to find a table. Our wait time to even order a drink was 35 minutes plus. After some time, we ordered and the food took another 45 minutes. The cabbage was horrible, the beef ribs were cold as well as a very small portion. I ordered catfish which was horrible because it wasnt cleaned properly. The waitress was not upbeat or welcoming. I would never again visit this establishment. They should learn to value customers by providing good customer service and remember we are the ones keeping the business open with our patronage.
This was one of the worst dining experiences I ever had. First we arrived at 8pm for our reservation, we were seated and handed a paper menu which was just a print out with a few items, we had to ask for a full menu. The server asked if we were ready to order, we asked for a few minutes to look over the menu, and she did not return for 20 minutes. We finally ordered, I ordered the jerk chicken and rib tip combo, and was told that they didn't have any full jerk chicken, I would have to have only wings. We also ordered a beef rib dinner. Asked for a glass of wine and a drink as well. After we placed our order, our server didn't bring our drinks. We had to flag her down 15 minutes later to remind her that we ordered drinks, only for her to come back 5 minutes later empty handed to tell us that they did not have the wine that we asked for. 40 minutes in, no food, no drinks. Finally the food comes and it's horrible. They forgot one of the side items that we asked for, the beef rib dinner was horrible, the jerk chicken and rib tip dinner was cold and the jerk chicken wasn't jerk chicken, it was baked wings with pepper. I told 1 bite of tip and told the server that the food was cold and I still haven't received my lemonade, she took it to the back and brought back the same plate 6 minutes later. The exact same food, same half eaten rib tip, same dry chicken. Instead of making a fresh plate, they took the food to the back and sat it under a heat lamp and brought it back out to me. At this point, we were fed up and asked to speak with the manager. 5 minutes later, a "manager" came out, we explained that the beef rib tasted horrible, and that the chicken and rib were reheated. He looked as if none of this was a surprise and acted like we were inconveniencing him with our complaint. We asked him to go get the server and our bill, and he disappeared. After waiting 10 minutes, we left, leaving the money for the one part of the meal that wasn't disgusting. This place is trash
Not sure what is going on in the kitchen, but wait time for your food is unacceptable. As I read another customer's review my entree came before the appetizers ended up cancelling the appetizers. Food was subpar. The only positive experience was the waitress was nice and had to keep apologizing for something that wasn't her fault. FLAVA IS SLIPPING!
Staff was very attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. Food was nice & hot on arrival plus very flavorful! Not really a downside but a suggestion. When other staff is helping out make sure for a large party to ask the entire table if they need anything instead of 1 person. Never know if someone else needs the same thing. Other than that best service I’ve had a long while. Thank you
Very nice location for brunch. Service and waitstaff was quite an improvement since I was last there.
Original Flavor received 5 stars because it was our favorite date night or catch up with the girls spot. Service was great and food was superb! I loved the live music. Current review of 1/5/19 visit (1 star): We had opentable reservations. We arrived and a few tables were vacant, but there was no hostess to greet and seat us. There were people behind the bar that saw us just standing there, none of them greeted us either. Eventually a young lady (with her stomach exposed style sweater on) walked out to greet and seat us. We inquired about the Saturday night live music and she said they stopped because people were not coming in. She then handed us a modified menu and said if we wanted anything outside of that to mention to waiter, so they can talk to the kitchen. Then we sat and sat and sat. No waiter, no water, just new guests seated and waiting like us. Finally one couple (arrived after we did) got up to leave and then we got up to leave. We dined at Redwood and were serviced very well, actually as well as we are used to being serviced during our many years of dining at Flavor. What has happened here Flavor?
Met here for breakfast with group of friends. Reservations were made on Open Table, very easy to navigate. Wait staff friendly, greeted and seated immediately. Sweet potato pancakes delicious and I love the creamy grits.
Great food...service was excellent
Excellent food. The grits were thick and creamy. The catfish was delicious.
It was my first time dining here. I had heard many great things so I wanted to experience it for myself. Unfortunately, the service was ridiculously slow. It took about an hour to get our food and the owner never came over to greet us. We had to call for our server many times. Again, the place was not busy at all. The main thing I did notice was many to go orders leaving for big parties and maybe that is what slowed everyone down. The food finally came. I ordered the jambalaya it was ok. My mom enjoyed her catfish, greens, rice and gravy. The sweet potatoes were just regular, like something was missing. My friend ordered the porkchops, unfortunately, it was a super small portion originally, so they said they had to fry another one.... that took another 15 minutes. Basically, if you're dining here, have patience or else you will be upset. I wish I did have a better experience, other people I know have had better. I have worked in the restaurant industry in the past for a few years, and you would think if all of these negative experiences were happening at this one table, in a pretty empty restaurant, who were also first time diners, someone from management would have came over to greet, comp or to leave the guests with a better experience of some sort before they left.
I dined in at Flavor Restaurant to celebrate a birthday and it was absolutely the best. The staff, service, and food was awesome!!! I could not have chose a better place to celebrate that evening.
The food was Fantastic and the Service was great!!!
near Gov state University, nice spot for pre-show/theater meal. My rib tips were a little chewier than I like, but jerk chicken flavors and the app of grit cakes were great. Our waiter was great. would try again, a fish or pasta dish next time.
The green tomatoes are better than ever. I'm so glad the batter improved because they're one of my favorites again. The shrimp n grits are the absolute best thing. The croquettes were not seasoned or cooked enough even after we sent them back.
The food was pretty good. I thought it was a little pricey.
The food was excellent!!! We had to wait about 20 mins to place our order and an addition 30-40 mins for our food to come. One person in our group order shrimp and grits and requested no bacon, but bacon was included. So they had an additional 20 plus minute wait. Our server was very pleasant and helped but was running around like crazy. I feel the restaurant would be better with a good manager to assist the staff.
Wonderful place. Very warm and inviting. The owner often comes by to welcome you and ask about your meal, especially if it's your first time there. Food is flavorful and service is so friendly. Stop in for jazz night!
The restaurant got great reviews however there was nobody and only two cars went to pick up food. We were disappointed and did not eat but went elsewhere
Food was good...jazz band was great
The food was excellent. Our server was polite and very attentive. I definitely recommend this place.
Always a great experience. Our service was awesome
Great place to try if you've never been. Want to impress someone, bring them here. Dinner, drinks, live music, great variety.
grits are not good at all. Turkey sausage was not made from scratch. I would recommend converting to an all scratch kitchen with no processed ingredients. Grits should just be water, salt, pepper, and butter. They should be firm, slightly creamy, not watery. I would try the restaurant again though. Great ambiance and service. friendly staff.
Great ambience and friendly wait staff. Our server was superior especially since there were nine of us. Shalonda was efficient, friendly and patient. There was a wide variety of selections and we loved everything we ordered. I personally ordered the peach waffle combo and the sauce for the peaches reminded me of my Grandma’s scrumptious peach cobbler! Fried green tomatoes and salmon croquettes also my favorites. Well worthwhile! Highly recommended.
My reservation was unable to be fulfilled. I scheduled a 4:00 pm reservation on the Open Table site and received a confirmation. Upon arriving at the restaurant, I was informed that there was a private event going on (WVON Radio Station) and I could not get in until after 7 pm. I would think that the restaurant would be able to block available time slots when they have events such as this so that times do not show as available. Very disappointed.
Service was excellent! The food was very delicious
We love the creative offerings of Flavor and the taste of the food was excellent. We were celebrating my wife's birthday. The service staff was friendly, but service was uneven. The entertainment was superb; unfortunately the room was not adequately venued for performers and a large loud self-absorbed party was (to me) disrepectful of the performers and of the staff. Because of the poor performing conditions, the performers (an excellent singer and a SUPERB keyboardist) had to vary their positions while performing.
We plan to return again since we have patronized Flavor since it was located on Vollmer Road; however, we are disappointed that it has not yet overcome its service issues, which resulted in colder-than-desired food.
It was my daughter’s bday and we had a girls’ lunch out with my mother in law and I and my daughter. The crowd was light. So even though they did not get the reservation from Open Table which I had placed days before, we were accommodated right away.
Pros: The food was excellent. Just what I had expected for a southern food. I had jambalaya, mom had gumbo and my daughter had the turkey jerk burger. Our waitress was a divine. She was there all the time, paying attention to us and she made us feel we’re the only customers in the restaurant. I forgot her name, but it would have been worth mentioning her name here. I asked for a dessert menu she said they don’t have it but she memorized all the dessert which was a saving grace. And she also gave a free vanilla with pecans ice cream for the birthday celebrant. Which was very endearing.. she don’t have to.
Cons: Our mimosa was great. But was served in plastic champagne glasses. That really put a frown and raised eyebrows in my face. Please ... take away the plastic champagne plastic containers and have it in real glasses! Also condiments like coffee cream and sugars were placed in plastic bowls. The decor, the ambience the food and great service do not match with the plastic champagne glasses and plastic bowls in table.
Overall, it was a great lunch.
Great food. My son enjoyed his meal
The food was yummy, my only minor complaint was that someone got a little heavy-handed with salt on my fried catfish. It was still good though and I ate it, so it really was minor. The service was excellent. I wish I could remember our server’s name because she was on point. She was professional with the right amount of warmth and attentiveness. I’ve been to this establishment probably 3-4 times and I have to say that each time I’m never disappointed.
I loved the atmosphere. The food was good. I won't talk about the food as my taste 8s subjective.
Went there with my family after graduation. The fried green tomatoes were salty, the Cajun meatloaf tasted like flour and overall the food was not as good as I’ve had before. Would not recommend .
My baby Mickey Mouse pancake came without a face. My red velvet waffle was hard and not hot. As I waited for the servers to finish serving my party of 10 I had to ask for syrup for my already cold food. I was brought syrup which was just room temperature and the butter had never melted. I was disappointed but didn’t want to complain. Other other hand that pasta that 2 people had order and the fried Green Tomatoes was a hit at the table. We had to stalk the server for a couple of refills and she was just short with us as we tried talking to her. It was a Saturday but it wasn’t super busy. There was no line and no wait. I feel like a place that promotes is breakfast should have good breakfast and I was disappointed with the service.
