Flatz Ratings and Reviews
Flatz is tired. The décor, which was beautiful when we first went 11 years ago, has suffered through recent makeovers. It felt like there were some lights that needed to be turned on - the beautiful wood branch ceiling soffit was dark where it used to be illuminated to show off the featured wood. One of the arching "branch lights" (much too dim) over the booths had the shade sitting off kilter and off of it's supports. The dining room was so empty at 6 p.m. that it felt sad.
As to the food - The Wild Game Chili and Colorado Bass were both delicious and well prepared and nicely presented. The tempura vegetable appetizer tasted nice but was greasy. This dish was served in a deep conical bowl with the dipping sauce in a cup in the center so that all the grease settled to the bottom rendering the last half of the veggies limp and greasy. If this were served in a shallow vessel on a bed of greens or starch to drain away the oil, they would stay crisp and be less greasy. The vegetable Pappardelle Pasta Carbonara was much to heavily sauced with a tasty but dense sauce that overpowered everything. To have the over-easy egg served atop this heavy sauce just made the dish more oppressive. I expected a light clinging coating of sauce.
The service was attentive and professional. Seeing the idle kitchen staff leaning over the counter watching the game from the open kitchen detracted from the upscale feel of the dining room. This restaurant should be a magnet drawing people into the hotel lobby from the surrounding Flatirons area. Instead it seemed to be mostly either single business travelers dining alone on their expense accounts or small work-groups of travelers doing the same. In other words - instead of being a draw, the clientele is mainly there by convenience/default as guests of the hotel. Compare this to Kachina at the Westin Westminster where the busy vital restaurant is full of food-savvy locals and you see that Flatz is a real missed opportunity.
This is a very pretty restaurant in a very pretty hotel. The food is fine--nothing spectacular, but plenty good for a hotel. My lamb was cooked medium-rare, as ordered, and the risotto was a bit too rich and overcooked. My husband enjoyed his chili and the garlic bread.
We chose this restaurant based on numerous good reviews and were appalled by how bad our meal was. The restaurant was completely empty when we arrived and we should have bolted as soon as we saw that. It was, without a doubt, the worst $100 meal we have ever eaten. The "Crispy Brussels Sprouts" were far from crispy. The chunks of brussels were undercooked. The "Truffle Fries" were not freshly cooked and had definitely been reheated. The "Giant Sea Scallops" were mediocre and there were only three of them. For $32 there should have been at least one more, if not two. The seasonal vegetable salad was just a pile of undercooked chopped carrots and asparagus under the scallops, wading in the broth. The "Seared Lamb Tenderloin Risotto" was not good either. We ordered the lamb rare and it was well-done, and the risotto was not made from arborio rice -- it was just a gooey, tasteless pile of regular rice.
Went for brunch with a couple of friends. The buffet is really nice, and I love that they will do eggs, omelettes, pancakes, French toast, and waffles to order. The servers are all very nice and attentive, and they remembered me from times I've been there before, even though it's been a few months. The food is great quality, and the price is reasonable. The atmosphere is also pretty calm, unlike many other places I've gone for brunch. I highly recommend Flatz brunch, and I am looking forward to going back.
We've always like the weekend buffet brunch here but the food seems to have slide a little downward. The fruit selections were great but it would be good if they had some special dishes. You can get an omelet made to order. What we like the most is the ambience, the champagne, and that you can visit with friends in a leisurely fashion. Beautiful restaurant. Very clean. Service just OK but it's a buffet so that doesn't really matter!
Flatz is located in the Marriott Renaissance in Broomfield. I used Open Table 3 times to make reservations and Flatz had my reservation and table ready each time. It has a great bar scene outside of the entry way, great seating inside and outside seating which I didn't use because an April snow storm but looked terrific. Great views across the plains for this SoCal boy.
Stopped here before theater in Arvada. Did not know Flatz is in a hotel. We were early so not many people around. Great food and service. Waitress was knowledgeable and attentive. Would be a good place for happy hour outside in warm weather. Great view of the mountains from their outdoor dining area. Great view from inside too.
We were looking for a place to visit with some dear friends we hadn't seen in many years. We wanted a place where we could enjoy the food while talking without interruptions. Flatz delivered. We were promptly seated ( had a reservation), our servers were professional and friendly. The menu had some fabulous dishes. There weren't a lot of patrons so we were able to easily chat. Everyone enjoyed their meal. We were not pressured to leave and stayed for another hour or so visiting. So glad I found this place!
We ate here because it had good reviews and it was in our hotel, so we didn't have to leave to go eat. We started with drinks and my wife was served a mule with no copper cup because they "were out of cups" - it looked and tasted bad. My rum and Coke tasted a little off and later I discovered by looking at the bill that it was actually a rum and Pepsi (it was written on there). The waiter should have told me as I don't like Pepsi with rum. We got their signature "crispy brussel sprouts" and they were a little too crispy with black char on the leaf edges and a burnt oil taste. Then our entrees came, game hen and NY strip steak, both of which were served on top of mashed potatoes. The meat was tough to cut and would slide around the plate on the potatoes as you tried to cut it, so that made it hard to eat. Sometimes it is nice to get a "clean" bite of food with no potatoes on it, but that was impossible. When the evening was over we had spent over $100.00 for a meal that was less than average. It met the typical flashy restaurant attached to a hotel stereotype and had the poor food to go with it. Would not recommend to anyone.
On Valentine's Day, we had reservations for 8 pm but ended up not being seated until 8:20 pm. They had an influx of non-reserved diners that they struggled to accommodate along with reserved seating. We dined at Flatz on Valentine's Day in 2014 and remembered the special decor for the occasion (linen table clothes, red trimmed decorations), the calm and slower paced crowd, the engaging waiter and the tasty food. This time, not so much. The wait staff was rushed, the food good but not distinctive, and the bottle of wine was $50 for a brand you could pop over to Superior Liquor Mart and buy at non-sale price for $14.99. My husband commented that he thought Flatz had "outgrown" us now that the economy was bustling. We will still return to Flatz for their brunch, but not for Valentine's Day dinner.
My wife and I celebrated Valentines Day. The food was really good. We chose to order off the menue rather than the 3 course special meal and believe we got the better value. The waiter was not attentative and we had to go to the bar to order a second glass of wine and to get a steak knife. This dampened the evening.
Went to brunch. Had a 12:15 reservation but didn't realize the brunch was over at 1:00. Felt a little rushed. Waiter was great. Directed other staff to leave dessert but the rest was being torn down around us. Nice atmosphere. Selection was okay, food was good.
Went for birthday breakfast on a weekday. It was not busy, it was quiet, we had a lovely view of the Flatirons. The all-you-can-eat buffet is the same price as ordering an entree and beverage from the menu, so it is a great deal. You can get made-to-order omelettes and waffles and they even delivered them to our table, which was very nice. We had excellent, attentive service and everything tasted very good. On the weekend they have a full buffet with more choices, for a higher price.
We were very happy we dined at Flatz on New Year's Day (dinner). The plate was hot, the food was delicious. We had Colorado bass. Heard Flatz had an outstanding chef. What we heard was confirmed. We had New Year's Eve dinner at Meritage Omni Interlocken but Flatz is much better.
We had a great experience at Flatz. We arrived and they knew it was us. They sat us right down and were very attentive. The chef also sent us a little extra appetizer which was such a treat. We really needed this as my husband just had to lay his mother to rest as she passed away on December 26th.
We love coming to this property.
It was not busy the restaurant seemed nice and the drinks were good. However, my husband got the NY strip and I got the Flatiron steak and neither were impressive. They were not seasoned at all, I had to add salt and pepper to a steak. The Brussel sprouts were good though.
