At Flaherty's...Fish is Everything!
We know good seafood, we know how to buy it and we know how to prepare it. Unlike most restaurants (even the best of them) where fish is often a secondary item on the menu...at Flaherty's it's all about seafood.
Here, you will experience a small town, comfortable, family atmosphere, where quality ingredients and quality preparation come together with quality service. We also include gluten free items in our menu to provide all of our customers with the best service possible. It's who we are...come and experience seafood like it was meant to be.

Flaherty's Seafood Grill & Oyster Bar Ratings and Reviews
Had a very good dinner on Friday night with my wife. The menu was extensive. We had the jumbo prawns and calamari appetizers then we split a fish special as we were too full to have
an entre each. The food was very good as was our waiter. It was a bit noisy that night as there
was a large work group at a nearby table but it wasn't overly uncomfortable.
The best part of the evening was the cute hostess who stopped by to tell us her life story....
can't remember her name...something Belle.
Have been there before and will continue to go back and would recommend.
We have been to Flaherty's many times but it had been a while since our last visit. Sadly, we did not fee the value was there. None of our meals were noteworthy and there was a mix up on our order. The service was good but we will not hurry back.
Restaurant is divided by a walkway
Both have the same menu. The Oyster Bar
Is very pleasant staff since we were celebrating an anniversary we switched to the Seafood Grille part with tablecloths etc
Seafood was superb with a baked oyster that was unique
We had anticipated sitting in the main dining area, not the bar room. It is so small that we could not sit away from the door. The main entrees were hot, but the rice and vegetables that accompanied them were colder than the room temperature. As our guests were from out of state and had fond memories of Flaherity's , we said nothing to our server. Had we been alone, we would have requested that those parts of our meal be replaced with freshly cooked meals.
Our experience was very disappointing from the start. The table wasn’t set and we ended up with an appetizer before silverware. When we asked for silverware, we were given a fork and knife and a paper napkin. The standard was a linen napkin. A service worker came through a few minutes later with a bucket of wrapped linen silverware. I asked for one and was denied. My husband ordered the Cesar salad with crab. The Cesar was served with an inedible piece of toast, a dressing lacking any flavor and tomatoes on a Cesar...he sent it back. After seeing the poor presentation of the appetizer, tuna and salmon tartare, I kept it simple with a wedge salad and a cup of Manhattan clam chowder. The server did tell me it was the last of the chowder which explains why it only consisted of broth. My son got the lobster bisque which had a very large hunk of the hard as rock bread in the cup. He ended up with about 4 tablespoons of bisque and left the “crouton” on the side. The manager did give us a coupon for 2 free entrees on our next visit. We gave it to an elderly couple outside the restaurant who seemed happy with their meal.
My wife used to visit this place often long ago. It looked good enough, but the service was really pretty slow. We had to be seated on the front patio since we had our dog with us. Food was meh. I am big on seafood, but this place did not do it for me. I might try it again, but it would not be my first choice for an evening meal.
We have been eating here for 20+ years when we visit Carmel, and the seafood is consistently good and reasonably priced.
In Carmel, it appears to be difficult to find a "bad" restaurant. Flaherty's was no exception. We ordered the Swordfish and it was fresh, cooked perfectly and served with an outstanding side dish of gnocchi. There are actually two restaurants next to each other. More has a more "pub" style to it with a large bar and informal atmosphere.
We had a reservation and expecting a quieter more upscale setting. When we noticed the other side of the restaurant we asked to be moved to the next door location. Without even a "sigh" they said, "Sure, no problem" and moved us. This restaurant had no bar, was quieter and had tablecloths. If was perfect!
They certainly go out of their way to please the customer. If in Carmel, I highly recommend this place for fresh sea food.
Very disappointing for Carmel. Food was below average, atmosphere was very awkward and crowded. The table next to us had something unpleasant in their food and had to send it back. The wait staff kept trying to clear our table while we were still trying to eat and converse with one another. Would not recommend dining at this restaurant. Not a good experience.
This was our first time eating at Flaherty’s. It began very well with the hostess remembering me calling about bringing our dog. We ate outside where our pooch was treated to water right away. We enjoyed a half bottle of Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc and share a lobster enchilada. The lobster taste was a bit drowned out by Mexican spices and cilantro, no fault of the restaurant. The pico de gallo was tasty. Not a big fan of the very sweet corn fritter. It seemed a bit out of place. A not-so-sweet one may have worked better. Service was good though we waited awhile to order. After that, all were attentive. We would return and try another dish!
Quality is spotty – since we last visited, the food has taken a turn for the worse. It's not bad, exactly – but the salad was full of bits of very old celery and browning lettuce; the seafood linguini was mediocre – very little flavor, slightly over-cooked shellfish, and it came with a sauce different from the one on the menu (about which we did not complain). The pie was clearly bought from another chain. There are so many other options in Carmel that we will try somewhere else next time.
The food was just average. I ordered crab cakes and they were mainly filler. That said I grew up on the east coast and crab cakes are lump crab with little filler. We ordered the creme brûlée for dessert and they came out cold. They do have gluten free options which is a bonus.
The dining space is very cramped so don't expect any privacy.
Overall it was ok. I wouldn't go there for a special occasion.
We arrived 15 minutes earlier than our reservation time. They seated us immediately. Since it was Thanksgiving, the place was packed. However, though we were sort of on top of our neighbor's tables, we still enjoyed ourselves. There were big parties and it made service slow. Yet, once we were taken care of, it appeared to be more comfortable and accommodating. The service staff was very friendly and professional. The food we ordered was quite good.
This is our second time at the restaurant and we would definitely go again.
The food was good was overpriced. We made a reservation but really didn't need one for an earlier dinner. They have a reasonable kids menu. The wait staff was attentive and helpful.
It was a celebratory dinner between my girlfriend and my parents, and we had a phenomenal time. The oysters were great and my Lobster Melt was delicious. It seemed like everybody enjoyed their food thoroughly.
Sara, our waitress, did a wonderful job and just made the experience outstanding. She was very personable and made us all feel right at home.
We definitely hope to be back.
I am sorry to leave a bad review, but must in this case. The noise level was extremely loud and we could hardly hear ourselves speak. My husband and I ordered oysters Rockefeller, a salad to share, my husband ordered halibut and I ordered the scallops. The oysters arrived with what looked like yellow cheese melted on them, but what turned out to be hollandaise sauce that to me tasted like Aunt Penny's from a can (awful). My husbands halibut was tasteless as were the mashed potatoes and creamed spinach. My scallops were marginally better. We never received the salad and had to ask for it to be removed when we finally got the bill... Nope, not going back.
No hostess to greet you. Wait staff yelled across the bar to sit anywhere. Jennifer, our waitress, did a great job, friendly, quick, efficient. Owner of the restaurant came in from the back, moved a chair at the table in front of us banging into our table, didn't apologize. then he sat at the table with a scruffy individual and started talking business. Not very appropriate with other people trying to dine and enjoy their meal. He then started talking to another waitress, poked at her stomach with a pen making some comment about it; extremely rude and inconsiderate.
I would not return to this establishment.
I did'nt for the calamari steak dinner-the restaurant did accommodate offering a complimentary dinner on our next visit, ( we live 4 hours away) but I feel they should have accommodated us for the meal also
We had reservations in the main restaurant but we were routed to the bar area for “better service” but it was separate from the restaurant and a little too casual for a couples dinner out. The food however, was excellent. Recommend the catfish and lobster ravioli.
Flahertys is a great restaurant downtown in Carmel. We love the variety of seafood. This time I got the Monterey Bay Fish Stew which is delicious. My wife got the seafood jambalaya which she loved. Have not had a bad meal in the 5+ times we have eaten there.
Good place to eat seafood !
My husband always wants to eat here at least once every time we visit Carmel. Tonight he ate apps & had the calamari, crab cakes, and a salad. Usually he orders an entree.
We had a lovely meal with excellent fish dishes and casual atmosphere. The wait staff was attentive and helpful.
