At Flaherty's...Fish is Everything!
We know good seafood, we know how to buy it and we know how to prepare it. Unlike most restaurants (even the best of them) where fish is often a secondary item on the menu...at Flaherty's it's all about seafood.
Here, you will experience a small town, comfortable, family atmosphere, where quality ingredients and quality preparation come together with quality service. We also include gluten free items in our menu to provide all of our customers with the best service possible. It's who we are...come and experience seafood like it was meant to be.

Flaherty's Seafood Grill & Oyster Bar Ratings and Reviews
This was our first time eating at Flaherty’s. It began very well with the hostess remembering me calling about bringing our dog. We ate outside where our pooch was treated to water right away. We enjoyed a half bottle of Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc and share a lobster enchilada. The lobster taste was a bit drowned out by Mexican spices and cilantro, no fault of the restaurant. The pico de gallo was tasty. Not a big fan of the very sweet corn fritter. It seemed a bit out of place. A not-so-sweet one may have worked better. Service was good though we waited awhile to order. After that, all were attentive. We would return and try another dish!
Quality is spotty – since we last visited, the food has taken a turn for the worse. It's not bad, exactly – but the salad was full of bits of very old celery and browning lettuce; the seafood linguini was mediocre – very little flavor, slightly over-cooked shellfish, and it came with a sauce different from the one on the menu (about which we did not complain). The pie was clearly bought from another chain. There are so many other options in Carmel that we will try somewhere else next time.
The food was just average. I ordered crab cakes and they were mainly filler. That said I grew up on the east coast and crab cakes are lump crab with little filler. We ordered the creme brûlée for dessert and they came out cold. They do have gluten free options which is a bonus.
The dining space is very cramped so don't expect any privacy.
Overall it was ok. I wouldn't go there for a special occasion.
We arrived 15 minutes earlier than our reservation time. They seated us immediately. Since it was Thanksgiving, the place was packed. However, though we were sort of on top of our neighbor's tables, we still enjoyed ourselves. There were big parties and it made service slow. Yet, once we were taken care of, it appeared to be more comfortable and accommodating. The service staff was very friendly and professional. The food we ordered was quite good.
This is our second time at the restaurant and we would definitely go again.
The food was good was overpriced. We made a reservation but really didn't need one for an earlier dinner. They have a reasonable kids menu. The wait staff was attentive and helpful.
It was a celebratory dinner between my girlfriend and my parents, and we had a phenomenal time. The oysters were great and my Lobster Melt was delicious. It seemed like everybody enjoyed their food thoroughly.
Sara, our waitress, did a wonderful job and just made the experience outstanding. She was very personable and made us all feel right at home.
We definitely hope to be back.
I am sorry to leave a bad review, but must in this case. The noise level was extremely loud and we could hardly hear ourselves speak. My husband and I ordered oysters Rockefeller, a salad to share, my husband ordered halibut and I ordered the scallops. The oysters arrived with what looked like yellow cheese melted on them, but what turned out to be hollandaise sauce that to me tasted like Aunt Penny's from a can (awful). My husbands halibut was tasteless as were the mashed potatoes and creamed spinach. My scallops were marginally better. We never received the salad and had to ask for it to be removed when we finally got the bill... Nope, not going back.
No hostess to greet you. Wait staff yelled across the bar to sit anywhere. Jennifer, our waitress, did a great job, friendly, quick, efficient. Owner of the restaurant came in from the back, moved a chair at the table in front of us banging into our table, didn't apologize. then he sat at the table with a scruffy individual and started talking business. Not very appropriate with other people trying to dine and enjoy their meal. He then started talking to another waitress, poked at her stomach with a pen making some comment about it; extremely rude and inconsiderate.
I would not return to this establishment.
I did'nt for the calamari steak dinner-the restaurant did accommodate offering a complimentary dinner on our next visit, ( we live 4 hours away) but I feel they should have accommodated us for the meal also
We had reservations in the main restaurant but we were routed to the bar area for “better service” but it was separate from the restaurant and a little too casual for a couples dinner out. The food however, was excellent. Recommend the catfish and lobster ravioli.
Flahertys is a great restaurant downtown in Carmel. We love the variety of seafood. This time I got the Monterey Bay Fish Stew which is delicious. My wife got the seafood jambalaya which she loved. Have not had a bad meal in the 5+ times we have eaten there.
Good place to eat seafood !
My husband always wants to eat here at least once every time we visit Carmel. Tonight he ate apps & had the calamari, crab cakes, and a salad. Usually he orders an entree.
We had a lovely meal with excellent fish dishes and casual atmosphere. The wait staff was attentive and helpful.
They were ready from my reservation ... they set us at a table the put together in the very back by the kitchen. The servers took forever... they said they would re seat us when a table came open and we had to finally ask after watch people get up and then they sat other people. I was very disappointed and won't be going back.
The service was the worse we have ever experienced. We were not offered menus, it took for ever to get attention and order our food .
Then it took a long time to get drinks and food.
The worse part of the experience was the women’s bathroom.
The toilet was actually soiled inside and out.
The restaurant did not meet the standard of the restaurants in Carmel or Open table.
Friendly and helpful service. We started with a very tasty bissque. Main course was filet mignon. Perfect - and a good winesuggestion.
We were visiting Carmel from the Boston area and as such are selective in seafood cuisine - Flaherty's offerings were inventive and then some - great food, convenient location - we'd return if we lived closer!
Service & drinks were very good, food not so much. We had a over cooked chewy calamari appetizer that the waiter promptly replaced with a better ahi sushi appetizer. My gnocchi & lobster entree was very good except they had to replace the undercooked lobster, which they did with no problem. My husbands chicken was overcooked. They offered free dessert & gave us some drinks & appetizer for free. Cook had an off day apparently.
Flahertys is a no nonsense kind of restaurant that seems to attract an older crowd. I chose it because they had a lot of options on their gluten-free menu including crab cakes that I thought were quite good. I wish they had the crab cakes as an entree because they I could've just eaten them and a cup of clam chowder and be satisfied. Instead I split the order with my companion and we shared the artichoke which was good and then I ate the mixed seafood grill. This sounds like a lot of food but the mixed grill was not rich and heavy and had 2 shrimp, 2 scallops a piece of fish, 2 clams and about 6 mussels. There were also a small serving of fries with this and I was very impressed by how knowledgeable the server was on GF foods and assured me of the care the kitchen took in preparing my meal including cooking everything separately including the fries. It's a casual atmosphere in the bar but looked less stuffy than the dining room. A family came in with small kids and seemed to struggle with finding food for them. I'd go back for a casual night of dining.
We had a late lunch for my husband's birthday. Big selection of fresh fish. Our halibut was perfectly cooked, and a generous portion. Great veggies nicely displayed with the fish. Service was very good despite having only one server for a mid afternoon time period and 4-5 tables occupied during our time there. This is a very casual unpretentious restaurant that we will return to next time we are in Carmel.
One of the very few places with gf options while we were there. The food and service was amazing!
Cute place, nice location, and great service, but the food was disappointing. I ordered a fish dish with potatoes and veggies. When it first arrived the potatoes were on the cold side. The waitress apologized and brought it back to the kitchen. She quickly returned with a new plate and the potatoes were warmer (though still not heated enough) but now the veggies were cold. I didn't say anything at that point and just ate the meal as I was hungry.
For the price, it should have been much better.
Searched opentable for a last minute dinner option in Carmel during Concourse d'elegance. The beauty of this restaurant is that it gives you 2 options. A bar area with tv's and tables or a quieter side for excellent dining and the ability to carry normal toned conversations. The food was awesome and Kayla (sp?) was an amazing server!
For years this has been our favorite place for lunch in lovely Carmel-by-the-Sea. Delicious options make it difficult to choose but you can't go wrong. Service is friendly and attentive. Delightful!
Very kind staff, welcoming to our dogs dining with us on the patio. Server was so sweet and even pet the dogs. Accommodating to my vegan diet as well, delicious cocktails, good bread, and food. Average priced.
