At Flaherty's...Fish is Everything!

We know good seafood, we know how to buy it and we know how to prepare it. Unlike most restaurants (even the best of them) where fish is often a secondary item on the menu...at Flaherty's it's all about seafood.

Here, you will experience a small town, comfortable, family atmosphere, where quality ingredients and quality preparation come together with quality service. We also include gluten free items in our menu to provide all of our customers with the best service possible. It's who we are...come and experience seafood like it was meant to be.

Great place for seafood, with a nice outdoor seating area for your dogs. Service was a little slow.

We celebrated our 10 year anniversary and had a wonderful time. The food was excellent, service was great. Pricey but worth it. Only downside was the seating arrangement seemed cramped. I would recommend to anyone.

Dinner was alright, but we wouldn’t go back. Arrived a few minutes early for our reservation. They tried to sit us at what hardly constitutes as a table, so we asked to move to the bar. Husband enjoyed the oysters for an appetizer. Main courses were were disappointing, maybe it was what we ordered.

Waitress was VERY special. Enjoyed her. Ordered the special fish was rubber, sauce and veggies good. Told waitress she would do her customers a favor by NOT offering the “Sea Bass” Special. She said “maybe you’ll have better luck next time”. Needless to say there will not be a next time. Additionally annoying they pack way more people in there than they should everyone is on top of each other, just a regretful experience with so many excellent options in Carmel.

The best part of the meal was the chowder, which was really good. The other fish was really fishy tasting and not fresh. Better choices for dinner in Carmel than this restaurant.

It was busy but food was good! They had a party in the main area and we were seated at a long table in their overflow room . While overall was a good experience, they might consider cleaning their fish tank.

Overall, I have to give this restaurant 3 stars. However, there are two areas that get 5-stars NO QUESTION.

Gluten-Free Food = 5 Stars
Other Food = 2 Stars
Our Server = 5 Stars
Hostess = 1 Star

We came in as a 10 top, which is A LOT of people for such a small restaurant. We were celebrating my grandma's 80th birthday and two of us have Celiac Disease.

Our server was incredible, patient and attentive (and was freakin' busy!) and the gluten-free food was FANTASTIC.

However, every person who ordered anything besides fish n chips, GF food, and the lobster gnocchi were very disappointing, according to my family.

We were very excited about this dinner and as I said, the gluten-free experience was PHENOMENAL.

Loved appetizers, lunch, and desserts. Got the ahi appetizer and the crab/shrimp sandwich recommend both. Bread pudding was one of the best I’ve had ever. Very hot though wait for it to cool down! Service was really nice wasn’t over bearing or left wanting either. Appetizers took a bit to get to us but that is only complaint. Will be back for sure!

Our food was excellent and the staff was very helpful and nice. We were there for our first anniversary and they gave us a dessert on the house. The chocolate decadence is a must for chocolate lovers!

The food and service at Flaherty's were great. The only issue we encountered was the chill in the air. The front doors were left open for dinner, after 6pm, and there was a breeze coming through. Carmel is not known for its summer hot weather (it is actually warmer in September than June) so having the doors open in the evening can make dining a bit uncomfortable. I understand it probably makes the restaurant more inviting to passersby, but what about the people already dining?

We enjoyed our dinner very much. Our server was exceptional and the food was amazing. They have private tables along the outer walls and one communal table down the middle. If you have a preference, you should let them know in advance. The only somewhat off-putting thing was a fish tank that greets you upon entering the restaurant - it just needed a good clean. It was decorative only but it was a bit of a disconnect from the fabulous food & experience we enjoyed. You should also know that there are 2 separate buildings side by side that go by the same name. One appears to be more casual and the other a bit more dressy. We ate at the dressier of the 2, and had the following food (all that was amazing):
- artichokes, steamed then grilled
- Halibut in a porcini mushroom bath - out of this world
- caesar salad
- swordfish
- lobster, done to perfection

All in all, a great experience.

Terrible service!! Awful food. Crab salad, dressing piled on top of the crab like a child was doing it. We ordered 12-dozen oysters. They gave us 10. We forgot our credit card. We called, they couldn’t find it. Nobody knew anything. They hung up. We decided to go to the restaurant, of course they had it. Horrible place!

We ate dinner here based on a recommendation from the inn where we were staying

The wine was good. That’s about it

The wedge salad was barely cool. A wedge salad is supposed to be cold and crisp.

The halibut crusted with cashews was Ok but being lukewarm, it was the warmest thing on the dinner plate.

The potatoes and vegetables were barely warm.

The service was friendly when we saw our server. We did t see her much

The flourless chocolate cake was just OK

All in all this was a big disappointment, especially in Carmwl

This was a mixed dinner, some good and some not so good. Service was good, seated on time for our resv, glasses kept full, bread served was excellent, nice feeling at restaurant.
The not so good was the Wedge Salad which my wife and I split. Lots of yellow leaves, blu cheese almost non existent and same for bacon. Not used to seeing caramelized nuts on this type of salad. Would not order again. My wife had the grilled salmon with rice and vegetables. Attractive arrangement and the vegetables were good. The server did not ask how my wife wanted her salmon cooked so was very undercooked for her.
I had the seashell risotto and this was one of the best dishes I had while in Carmel for five days. Mussels and clams were good, shrimp and lobster were very good and the risotto itself was tasty.

We were touring Camel by the Sea and wanted a seafood place for dinner. After reading reviews and speaking to family members we decided on Flaherty's. My wife had a whole dungeness crab; I had the sandabs. As an appetizer I had a cup of lobster bisque, which was delicious. The establishment was busy, both sides of the restaurant filled. The bistro side, where we ate, was just a bar and a few tables, but the food was great. Definitely recommend the place for good eats.
