The restaurant week menu was only available from 12 to1:45. Our reservation was for 2 pm and nowhere in the nyc restaurant week site did it say that. I think the staff knew that and did not even post a menu outside so it was like you were trapped. And then as soon as you sit, the waiter rushes you to order, without giving you a chance look at the menu. So our 25 dollar meal turned to 70! Thanks!

Oh my what a treat to eat in a truly grown-up restaurant where no jangling music tries to create a false "buzz." No crowding here, with tables set far enough apart that neighboring conversation doesn't interfere with one's own and chairs are not bumped into by passing waiters or patrons. As to the food, it couldn't be better. I have never had a more complicated and interesting pumpkin ravioli. I LOVE this restaurant.

$24 for a Martini, $9 for a cup of coffee. Give me break. Not at a second tier restaurant. Must have been "special" Restaurant Week pricing which, if so, makes it all the worse.

Went for Restaurant Week lunch: cauliflower soup with truffle oil smelled and tasted amazing. The short rib with duck confit was disappointing: the short rib was deep fried with a layer of panko (?!) and had no flavor or juice. The mashed potatoes were cold and obviously plated before anything else was ready. The duck confit was a little too salty. The chocolate cake was good, but nothing special. The service was warm and attentive. Wouldn't go back again. I expected the food to be a lot better.

Saturday night at 8.... with plenty of unoccupied tables.. should have been a clue... service was fine but not friendly at all. Food was ok but nothing special. The tables beside us were not even made up... that defnitely detracted from the ambiance... felt like serving customers was an inconvenience/afterthought. No candle on our table. Very lukewarm overall. Definitley would NOT go back.

I was impressed that I was given warm, gluten-free bread after the waiter learned that I was celiac. Also, the petit fours with coffee were gluten free. It was pricey, but for an important business lunch well worth it I thought the food was perfectly prepared, and would consider coming for dinner i the future.

Fives is a hidden gem on Fifth Avenue, tucked away in the Peninsula Hotel away from the maddening holiday tourists and shoppers. The serving team was attentive, without hovering over us at every moment. They were excellent with our children, suggesting specially crafted items that were not on the menu that the kitchen executed perfectly. It made them feel like VIPs. Our food was meticulously prepared and beautifully presented. Many thanks for a wonderful brunch!

While the overall experience is unmistakeably 5-star hotel, the food is only good enough for a convenience bite when you'd rather not bother with finding another place. It's not bad, but it's not inspiring. The waitstaff know the routine for the grand Peninsula Hotel in which it is housed but aside from one waiter, the rest of the staff at Fives have too much attitude to carry it out right.

We went for restaurant week. Needless to say it was quite disappointed with the food quality and portion. Drink prices were absurd! Portion sizes were more like kids meal. As for food quality, we expected to be of high standard since it's PENINSULA. Service was average. We requested table by the window but ended up sitting outside the kitchen entry way despite couple empty tables were available by the window.

I don't generally frequent hotel restaurants as they tend to be middling at best. But this was a special occasion and Fives looked romantic and the menu was great. Also, they had a Restaurant Week dinner menu so I figured it would be a good value. Honestly, the food was quite good (except for the bread which was obviously microwaved and tough) but the service was spotty and, for a hotel as fantastic as the Peninsular, the room was really not spectacular. For restaurant week, a good find, for a normal day not at all worth the inflated hotel restaurant prices

Our experience was worse than terrible. For starters, no server came to the table after we were seated for ~10 minutes. We ordered a bottle of wine, which needed to be decanted a bit longer. The server never came back to pour the wine for us; we poured it ourselves (and with one exception, we poured the wine ourselves throughout the meal). Despite at least five or six servers in the dining room, it took us another 10 minutes or so to gain the server’s attention to order dinner. The server who took our order was lovely. The bread was stale; we had to ask for bread that we could chew. The portion size was paltry. The tea was nice and hot, but at $9 not worth it. I would not return nor would I recommend this venue to anyone else. In fac

My mom and I went to Fives for restaurant week. The waiter seemed to be annoyed and forced to serve us. He showed his annoyance when we asked for the drink menu. Not the way we were expecting to be treated from by a so called ”Five” star restaurant. So disappointed because I was expecting better food and service at this overrated place. We enjoyed this place so much that we'll never go back. ”Five” star restaurant, failed.

I chose this location for a midday lunch with my girlfriend after having read a number of positive reviews. Imagine my surprise then when I found the waiter to be incredibly pushy, the food to be sub-par, and the whole lunch overwhelmingly flat. The best part of the lunch though was that we were seated right in front of a window with a wonderful view of 5th ave.

It was one of the best restaurant-week lunches. I had chicken breast, which was slightly seasoned with ginger and accented with mastered. Cheese risotto on the same plate was delicious too. I recommend banana ice cream and roasted banana on the side for your desert. It is unusual, but I felt guilty to pay only the restaurant-week fare.

The food does not live up to my expectation of a restaurant in Peninsula. We went there for the restaurant week. The ravioli appetizer was overcooked -- we could not even see the square shape of a ravioli. The cod fish entree was a bit overdone as well. The chicken entree and the soup appetizer were ordinary. The only thing I would recommend on the restaurant week menu would be the rib entree and the chocolate cake.

We hit the jackpot at Fives, in the Peninsula Hotel, on 55th and 5th during Summer 2012 Restaurant Week. Above all, we wanted tranquility. Once we climbed all those stairs to the restaurant, we found quiet, no distracting music; comfortable seating by huge arched windows overlooking 5th Avenue; a sophisticated ambiance; informative, friendly, albeit a bit slow, service; and delicious, beautifully presented food - we saw young ladies photographing their dishes. I truly enjoyed my meal of Tomato-Mozzarella-Basil Ravioli with Prawns, Port Wine Braised Beef Short Ribs – very tasty and tender – and Valrhona Chocolate Ginger Mousse Bar with banana ice cream. Fives is fairly expensive; but last night, during Restaurant Week, except for the coff

My wife and I dined at Fives during Restaurant Week, ordering off of their Prix-Fixe menu. Overall, the food was pretty good. My Summer-Vegetable soup was tasty and both of the desserts impressed. My wife had a roast chicken main that was mixed. The chicken itself was terrific, but the ginger risotto was a miss. It was bland and did not complement the bird. My entrée was was beef short ribs. It was good, but not extraordinary. I also want to mention the somewhat '80s-looking food presentation. The plate that my wife's salad was served on looked like a hat Grace Jones would have worn to the opening of Road Warrior 3. Our real complaint was the service. It was VERY slow and not nearly as attentive as I expect from the Penninsala.
