We had a great time here - mostly “younger clientele’ but the staff was extraordinarily nice!! They made our time fabulous- would highly recommend it!!
Two out of three meals were good, the third was not very flavorful and the fish did not seem fresh. Our waiter was mediocre.
Brunch was absolutely outstanding!
Great place in super neighborhood! Try the Brussels sprouts! Sitting outside on a warm fall day was the best!
Found the food expensive for the size of the portions. $11 for really small glass of wine too.
Always a great meal and great service. We visited with friends from out of town and they were also very impressed by the quality of the food and the reasonable prices.
Decent pub dinning. Food is good but don’t expect fine dinning at all. Very casual !
Always a great meal and super service. Love coming here!
Went for brunch. Great brunch menu. Food and service were both very good.
We enjoyed lunch in between college visits to Boston University and Northeastern, starting off with the Hummus appetizer with vegetables and pita bread. I ordered the Fish and Chips which were fabulous! My daughter ordered the veggie burger and she was equally as happy. The server/bartender was very accommodating as well. My cell phone was running low and they volunteered to charge it for me at the hostess stand. The restaurant is located in a great little neighborhood. I would definitely go back when I return to Boston.
Good was not upto mark as per the price. Also they did not mention that they dont serve brunch in weekdays
Been to Five Horses several times before; food and drink were pretty good as usual, though I sampled the beer selections today less than my normal. Service was unusually slow, inattentive, and seemingly lackadaisical. The table ordered two bloody marys, one of which was supposed to be spicy tequila. They looked the same, and after checking with the bartender, the server said one “should be” the spicy tequila one and left it at that. A few sides were forgotten with the meal. They eventually arrived after a reminder, but there were no concessions or apologies.
Will likely be back, but still disappointing.
Overall very good experience. It took a long time to get our food out but the waiter let us know and checked on us periodically. Once we got food, we very much enjoyed the dishes and felt it was worth the wait. I don't think the wait was typical (per our waiter). I would recommend this pub, and definitely go again where we hopefully will have a shorter wait for food.
The A/C was BLASTING by us; it was too cold to think. The waiter objected saying it wasn’t possible. I also went to the hostess stand and she made me wait while she seated others and never came back to me. When waitstaff delivered all our food, those wait staff said no problem to turning off a/c and took care of it straight away.
I didn’t get for the pizza we ordered and the tacos were stale flour tortillas with a little meat and pickled onions. THATS IT.
We went for a birthday dinner and was pleasantly surprised by the how great the food was. The only downside was that the volume of the music was too loud and it was difficult to hear what people were saying. Other than that we would likely return for another delicious meal.
Overall a great restaurant! The food was amazing (fried shocked with mashed potatoes and mac and cheese) and came out in an appropriate amount of time. Service was great. Really awesome beer selection and the seating options are great if you want something open to the outside air (plus seating outside). Strongly recommend traveling here for some great food and drinks (awesome for a get-together with friends).
Great food, great service, great beer.
To be honest, I'm rating the food only based on previous experiences. We waited 15 minutes and nobody even brought us water or told us someone would be with us soon, so we left. The people at the next table had waited half an hour for their check.
Good food, good service at a fair price and with a cool atmosphere.
You have to get the donut holes! Get two they are amazing.
The pecan pancakes are super yummy!
They offered a pride mimosa flight!
Service was amazing as well! Will be back and soon!!!
Great local beer selection; we had terrible service which we believe was due to inexperience; appetizers were very good; mixed bag on the entrees; would come back for drinks and ‘bar food’
Perfect neighborhood spot. Great patio in the sun also with part shade
Great seating arrangement for a large group.
This was the second or third time I've been for dinner and I've never been disappointed. The food is fantastic for the value and they have a good beer selection and good atmosphere.
It's a pub masquerading as something more than it is. Keep expectations low, drink booze and it will be worth it
Food was super spicy and they didnt mention it on the menu. Which ended up with me not eating much. The waitress also messed up my drink.
Great spot! Easy walk from Northeastern. Comfortable atmosphere, but nice enough for our celebration. Interesting cuisine but something for everyone. Very friendly staff. Recommend!
Nice tap list (including Trillium) and menu has a good selection. First time our Medium hamburgers were too rate, but on second visit and other selections the food is very good. Fun atmosphere too!
I love 5 Horses! Great food, excellent beverage selection, and wonderful staff.
Food was average. great selection of beers. Fish Tacos were dry and too wet as the torta fell apart. Chicken wings weren't very flavorful or crispy (which we asked for). We went on a Monday night and it wasn't busy either so the kitchen should have been on their game.
I liked the atmosphere and high top tables in the bar area. Think its time to refresh their menu.
As always, we had a great experience at Five Horses. Excellent food, great drink list, and friendly service. We will certainly be back.
Great food and exceptional service makes this a definite return visit for me! Our waiter was excellent!
The food was terrible-extremely salt—sent two different meals back twice. I finally just ate what they brought me because I saw we weren’t getting any where. I was genuinely upset that I actually paid money to consume their food—and they didn’t even do anything two make up for it like comp a drink. The best part was the meals I sent back were on the bill when they dropped the check—unbelievable!
Very comfortable and quaint tavern with lots of brick and warm wood. Menu is limited, but creative, which I enjoy so I don't have to go through pages of menu items. There are a few entrees, tacos, sandwiches and some small plates, as well as pizza.
My husband ordered the steak entree and I ordered the fried chicken salad. Both were prepared well and we thoroughly enjoyed them. My initial choice was the pull pork sandwich, but they were out. I look forward to going back to try some of the other menu items. Service was efficient and we had a very friendly server who answered all our questions satisfactorily.
Lots of choices of beer including a flight of different brews, which my husband ordered and enjoyed. Limited selection of wine, but I enjoyed a lovely Spanish Rose that was offered.
This is a perfect place to have dinner if you are going to a show at Symphony Hall and want a casual dining experience. Symphony is about 3 blocks away and less than a 10 minute walk.
My wife & I had a 6:30 reservation thinking we would have plenty of time for a 8pm event at Symphony Hall, a 10 minute walk away. Seated right away, it took 10 or so minutes to place our order with an overworked and very harried server. Another 10 or so minutes passed before our drinks arrived. After sitting there until 7:20(!), and seeing later arrivals already eating or getting their checks, the waiter came over apologizing repeatedly that he forgot to submit our food order! He said he would talk to the manager about getting our food out quickly. We asked him to do the best he could but that we were now in a big hurry.
The food arrived around 7:30 and when presented the bill, all our items were listed. The waiter said we should talk to the manager, who wanted all items paid for despite our long wait due to the server's screwup. I asked that the manager come to our table. After a few minutes wait, the manager, Dominic, came over. I told him that while we we quite unhappy about how long it took to get our meals, I was even more upset that Dominic did not even approach us until we asked to see him, and that not even our drinks were comped. His response was that he was surprised that we were as upset as we were! Perhaps this is the way Dominic treats all of the customers.
My wife and I dine out often, very rarely complain about food/service and do not nitpick about things hoping that it will result in a free drink or meal. In this case, however, the way Dominic handled our issues and the arrogant attitude that he had when he saw how unhappy we were, forces me to give him and the restaurant a HUGE thumbs down even though the food was good. Dominic needs to bus tables and do other tasks so that he can learn how the restaurant business runs and how customers should be treated. We will NEVER return to Five Horses Tavern in the South End, solely because of their poor, inept management.
Went for lunch with some friends and it wasn't too crowded or loud. Great service and good food.
Good brunch! Great mimosa flight!
Excellent! Host ordered cab. Cab never arrived. Host ordered Uber; Uber was prompt. Great staff.
It is a "Tavern" with a PUB atmosphere so you should expect some chatter from adjacent tables. But the noise level this time for "dining" was too much for me in part from a loudmouth at the adjacent table.
