My last few visits, the food has been lacking and the cocktails are just okay. When Five Horses first opened, I remembered the food and drinks were fantastic, but in the last two years, food and drinks have gone downhill. Dinner on Saturday was just "meh" and finally the last straw. I will not be returning.
Fun family experiences
Everything that we ordered was fresh and delicious and the service was top notch. Fun atmosphere and one of the best margheritas I’ve ever had. I highly recommend it!
Solid pub food at a Reasonable price. I wouldn’t cross town to go there but good neighborhood spot.
We reserved a table for five and loved the round table they had ready for us on the upper level, perfect for our daughter’s graduation celebration. Excellent service and fun atmosphere yet low key and fairly quiet noise level
Which we loved.
Pleasant, second time I have eaten there, fun menu options!
Nicely eclectic bar food with some genuine gourmet touches. Everyone liked the brussels sprouts, the St. Louis ribs and the Chinese chicken wings, but the big hit of our table was the street corn pizza. (We added grilled chicken to ours.) There's good breadth and depth in the draft beer selection, with something for everyone. The wine list is modest but solid -- and decently priced. A festive, happy joint that was almost-but-not-quite-too noisy on the Memorial Day evening we were there.
We LOVE Five Horses Tavern! Our daughter moved to Somerville last year and when we come to visit from NY we try and eat there as often as possible. Menu is unique, food is incredible, staff is friendly, and the beverage list is varied and extensive. Kudos and keep up the good work!
Meat was undercooked
The shakshuka is delicious! Lots of interesting things on the menu. The loaded tater tots (special) were a disappointment though.
The service was pretty good but one out of 3 meal was served cold not hot at all. The waitress did not refill our drinks at all. But the food despite being cold was still good. The corn bread appetizer was amazing.
Friendly staff and ambience. Has the feeling of a neighborhood pub with plenty of beer varieties and good grub.
This place is honestly a hit or miss every time. They have some good items on the menu but others are really bad and not worth the money. Overall this place is very overpriced for what you get. A rather sad salad with rock-hard chickpeas and chicken for $18 - absolutely ridiculous. Someone in my party got a chicken sandwich which was also quite bad (stale bread and not too flavorful chicken). The drinks were okay, a few were tasty like the mai tai and some were not strong enough and rather foul tasting like the bourbon cocktail and the spicy margarita. Honestly, there are many better options in Davis Square and I won’t be returning here, at least not for dinner.
We were given a wonderful private table for our 12 person reservation. The food was delicious. And the service was fast and friendly!
Great beer selection and he food was fantastic! We went for dinner before a show and returned after the show for a few more drinks and snacks! I ordered to fried chicken dinner and it was awesome. Replaced the mashed potatoes with a side of roasted veggies, glad I did. The roasted veggies were delicious and unlike any other veggie side dish I’ve had.
Good food and service, but sooo LOUD! Impossible to carry on a conversation.
We wanted to like this place, saw it had many good reviews, but we found it to be just too loud (not fun-loud, just loud) and the food was only okay. Service was fine, nothing exceptional. The draft beer list is amazing and that seems to be the main attraction. I’m sincerely confused as to why this gets top reviews as we had a very mediocre (but still pricey) meal which no one ate much of and we were all happy to leave.
Five Horses has a great drink selection, an excellent brunch, and a menu that provides options for non-meat eaters and meat eaters alike.
Great food and nice gluten free options (Just make sure to check with server in regards to allergies because they cross contaminate unless you specify that cross contamination is not okay). The tables were very close together but overall, it was a great experience.
Nice place, but can get a little noisy making it hard to hear people talking at your own table.
The tavern isn't terrible, it's just the food is very subpar for the pricing. Extensive drink menu which is solid, but I've been twice and ordered different items to test around the menu, all of it is pretty bland, except the tacos which were primarily just spicy but not really flavorful. I will say the honey butter cornbread is the best thing on the menu, which also kind of sad when you think about it lol. It's conveniently placed and the ambience is fine, but won't be going back for a meal.
Great menu selections with fresh ingredients. Excellent service and atmosphere. Loved it!
Best brunch option in Davis Square - yummy food, lively but not too hectic, and delicious morning cocktails.
I went out for a girls night on a tuesday. It was pretty quiet but very nice we were able to talk and had a great time. Service was wonderful and the food was great. Definitely coming back.
Had a great time! Great service, food, and vibe! Pizza was yummy, as were the tacos.
The food was very good. I ordered a lot of tacos, which were very good. The 4 stars would have been 5 but I got served a fish taco, and I have seafood allergies. The waitress was very apologetic and had my order fixed very quickly. It was a little on the loud side. We were very impressed with the beer selection. The brunch there is very good also.
My cousins and I try to get together once a month and we were very happy with the service and the food!
The vegan and vegetarian options are a thrill here, especially since they don't make a big deal about them. Good location, friendly and busy ambiance, interesting beer list -- all good. (The noise level was indeed high for my 57-year-old ears; maybe not the place to go for a large group gathering.) Nothing about this place is extraordinary, but everything is good and it all adds up to a great stop after work or before a movie.
Good place to dine.
I love it at five horses all of the girls in the family go to brunch on Saturdays there, the wait staff is amazing very inviting and on top of everything for you. Can’t get any better!
This is a regular go-to place for us. excellent service, love the food and beer menus!
We arrived early and seated straight way. Unfortunately this was in the lower part by the front window, host desk and front door.
If can be very breezy there on o winter evening in February and I should have asked to move. Lesson learned. I also seemed to be in the sweet spot for the 'music' playing from a directional speaker, which made conversation difficult. Service and food was adequate for the price. I just wished I'd moved table from the isolated and definitely cold entry way.
Good beer and drinks selection, food was fun, noise was way too much. Service was great.
We were in Davis Square for the Sci Fi Film Festival on the evening we went to Five Horses. First off, parking was easy in the Rite Aid lot. We could walk to the theater, too. The restaurant is lively, even at 5:30 on a Saturday. Service was good. The Gluten free options were good and the server seemed to know the menu very well. I had the Pulled Pork and Grits which was very flavorful and something I haven’t had in a long time. My husband enjoyed the Fried Chicken. And although we were easily the oldest people in the restaurant, we enjoyed our dinner and would return when in the area.
Way too noisy. Impossible to talk to each other. We liked the food a lot, but won’t be back.
Fun for a casual date night. The Ox tail chili was bomb!
This was our first time there. A couple of our older Davis Square favorites had closed, so we did some looking around. Glad we did! The food was really delicious and the place was cozy (nice to be seated near the fireplace on a night like that one). Kind of noisy, but that's to be expected with a lively crowd.
Great service, great food!
Consistently delicious food that is a little funky and original
My first time at Five Horses Tavern, very impressed with the beer selection and the food. They have the comfort food side covered, but they also have some nice healthy options. Liked the breadth of the menu on the drinks and the food side. It is noisy and a bit dark. Nice ambiance, but need to know those things.
