Steve and Michelle Corry, the proprietors of Five Fifty-Five, arrived in Portland armed with a passionate vision and extensive experience in the restaurant industry. Steve began his culinary career as a brew master at several breweries in Northern California. In 1999, he attended the New England Culinary Institute in Burlington Vermont. After graduating in 2001, he returned to California to work at Domaine Chandon in Napa Valley. A graduate of Boston University with a Bachelor's Degree in Hotel and Restaurant Administration, Michelle Corry has worked at numerous prestigious establishments, including the French Laundry in Napa. Together, they have envisioned a dining experience that would combine a comfortable atmosphere, professional service, and fresh, simple, and delicious food sourced locally.

Every sip and bite was wonderful -- from the martini to the bread to the beet and Caeser salads to the wine and to the hangar steak and lobster mac 'n cheese. Definitely a must for a special occasion as it wasn't cheap! Service was good but not great. Certainly attentive but not spot on. Will definitely go back though!

First time here after living in Maine since 2001. Never been b/c we heard it was small portions and over priced. Pleased to find out the portions were fine, we didn't leave hungry. We had a couple appetizers, which were very good. She had the Lamb and I had the Scallops. Both were good but nothing great. The scallops were a little undercooked which makes the food 3 stars instead of 4. We got a side of parmesan fries with the meal, which were great. If not for those think we would have left a little hungry. We were impressed with the gluten free options and alternatives they brought to the table instead of bread. Service was very good and attentive to our dietary needs. Placard on the table wishing my wife a happy birthday was a nice touch. A little pricey for what you get which would prevent us from going there again but I would recommend you at least try it. It's on the borderline. I can see why some people love it. Definitely other Portland restaurants with better food for the price.

It was our anniversary and they made it so special. They had a card on the table wishing us a happy anniversary and toasted us with champagne. It was a beautiful meal with great service

Great experience - one of us had the five course tasting menu - the other ordered from the a la crate menu. Soup excellent - cheese excellent - scallops and braised beef good. Dessert good. Service good. Would return. Would recommend.

Beautiful presentations for each of our 3 different entres. The beet salad was excellent. The scallops were divine and a generous portion. The halibut was exceptional with delicious sauces surrounding the fish. The wait staff were friendly and attentive.

I wanted to like this, I really did. I had been here a decade ago for dinner and probably 3 years ago for Restaurant Week. This time, I made reservations weeks in advance because it was a special occasion. We were seated promptly. The waiter came over and took our drink orders, and then we waited. And waited. And waited. Finally we received our drinks. It took forever to order our meals. I enjoy making an occasion out of a meal, but it just seemed a little too long. Ordered the lobster mac and cheese. I understand seafood. I understand that it's really easy to overcook seafood. The lobster though, was undercooked, just a little too soft in texture. And really, the rubbery end in claws is not palatable. I don't get why restaurants feel they have to top a dish with that.
The noise level was So. Loud. Couldn't have a pleasant conversation without raising voices. And then, because the tables are so close, you felt that everyone could hear what you were saying.
Upshot? Overrated. Won't be back.

The food was excellent and the ambiance was very nice. The server was great, but the spacing between courses was VERY long. My dining partner did the five course tasting menu and I did ala carte. We were thre from 7:45 until after 9:45PM. But overall very good and would definitely come back. :)

Excellent options for Maine Restaurant Week. The service is absolutely impeccable and the food is even better. The kitchen is open and we were able to watch the chefs from the second story, over the railing. Pretty cool experience. We keep going back and for good reason - we’ve never been disappointed.

Seated promptly to a table with a view as requested. Greeted very quickly with a run down of the menu options and drinks. Our server was outstanding! Ordered the sweet potato appetizer and it was amazing! By far the best dish we had during our visit. For entrees we had the salmon and burger which were good but found them both to be a bit on the bland side. Overall we were pleased with our visit. Found prices to be a bit high for what we experienced. Noise was a bit louder than expected mainly due to the open kitchen. During the last 20 minutes of our visit it got increasingly smoky on the top level of the restaurant which for those who may have respiratory issues it may be of concern.

We love 555. Its our go to special event place and where we bring out of town guests as it showcases Portland's food scene. This was my wife's 50th birthday and we had the 3 kids (17, 16, and 11) with us. They did great. They found good menu choices (they chose steak frites) and even some mocktails and were impressed by the exceptional service (proud that they noticed that!) Food was perfect: grilled caesar, mussels (Portland's best - actually, the best anywhere!), 5 perfect scallops in a sweet sauce, lobster mac and cheese that was filling but not heavy, and delicious desserts (candies, sorbet, cookies). 555 never disappoints - we always feel taken care of and very well fed. Portland's best restaurant!

This by far is the best dining experience I have had in Portland,Maine. From the moment we walked in to the minute we left, the experience was memorable. The cocktails and food was AMAZING. The wait staff was absolutely impeccable. Always greeting with a smile and making sure we wanted for nothing while there.
Hands down a memorable, fun,and decadent dining experience. I cannot wait to visit again and again!

worst waiter (bald, big beard), service, and response from management i have ever had in my life. went for a family dinner — ordered a $250 bottle of wine, cocktails, $90 steak, were generally easy to deal with — yet the waiter could not have had a worse attitude or cared less about our table. two people in our party ordered the ribeye for two and when they asked to have the remainder wrapped up, he threw away the bone that had quite a bit of meat on it without asking. my parents were so disappointed and there was no apology offered. he was rude, condescending, and had a terrible attitude. we kindly talked to the manager on our way out and he could not have cared less and didn’t even apologize for the poor service on a $600+ table. i’ve been to 555 many times before and after this experience i will absolutely never go back, and will tell everyone i know to do the same.

My girlfriend and I had a PHENOMENAL night at Five Fifty-Five for a "belated Valetine's weekend." The servers were incredibly nice, knowledgeable, and attentive. The food was incredible - we LOVED the short rib - and the wine list was really nice. The atmosphere is great for a date night and the layout of the space is really nice and fun with the "upper level/balcony" tables that we sat at. We're very appreciative - you made our night. This is our favorite restaurant in Portland for special occasions (birthdays, anniversaries...). The atmosphere is calm, somewhat cozy, professional. Service is professional but friendly. Food is always excellent. We always know we will have an excellent evening at 555.

Pleasant dinner. Hot courses not always hot. “Cheesecake,” a dessert selection, was a gelatinous cube with no resemblance to cheesecake. Service warm and excellent and just the right attentive touch without being intrusive.

Words fail to express how wonderful this restraunt is! The food was great and our table was in such a wonderful spot (tip: if you can get it, all for a table on the second floor- quitter and a bit more intimate). Servers were very attentive and friendly.

The best is the attention to little details that make you feel welcome. We got to our table and found a little card wishing us a happy anniversary then, they came by and poured us a complimentary glass of rose champagne. At the end of the meal, we ordered the dessert sampler and it came with a sugar waifer also wishing us a happy anniversary.

I've never been to a restaurant who really cared or put that much effort into making guests feel so special. It totally made our night. ❤️

They greeted us with half glass of complimentary pink bubbly and a note saying “Happy Anniversary”. The host and waiter were gracious and charming. I loved my scallops crudo, and we shared the grilled caesar salmon, which they split on to two plates without being asked. Best anchovies I’ve had! Then my duck entree was also delicious. I finished with salted caramels and a cappuccino, which came with another anniversary acknowledgement on the plate in the form of a decorated cookie. My husband loved the giant ice cube in his cocktail too!

It was our 30th anniversary. Food was delicious and the service was excellent. Only two complaints - the room was freezing. I had to wear my winter coat throughout the meal. And I was disappointed that their signature truffle mac and cheese was served in a wide bowl instead of a crock, which they used to do. The pasta cooled down too quickly (probably because the room was so cold).

We arrived at the restaurant on time. We were told we could be seated in a few minutes and invited to sit at the bar which we did. A friend was already at the bar waiting for his takeout order. We chatted and did not hurry to our table. The restaurant encouraged us to take our time, and we appreciated the fact that they were willing to wait for us.

We hadn’t been to 555 in a few years, but remembered the food being excellent. Unfortunately, our dinner last night was mediocre: undercooked salmon (even though I had asked for it to be very well cooked/crispy), too much sauce dumped on our main dishes, cold biscuits and focaccia, etc., etc.

Also disappointing was the fact that, even though the restaurant had asked whether we were booking for a special occasion and I said yes (one husband’s retirement and another person’s selling a house), there was NO acknowledgment of the occasion other than a tacky piece of paper placed on our table when we arrived saying “Congratulations!” Honestly, if a restaurant makes a point of asking if we are celebrating a special occasion, then we expect AT LEAST a free caramel or a glass of Prosecco or some other little gesture. Otherwise, don’t bother asking at all. It’s just irritating.

Sorry for the negative review, but I doubt that we will ever return.

Service and food presentation were impeccable. We did their signature tasting menu, overall a good experience but not sure the price reflected the portion size of each course. Some dishes tasted amazing others might have been more focused on presentation than taste. Would recommend to a friend who's a Foodie.

We enjoyed our dinner at Five Fifty-Five. I had the Truffled Lobster Mac and Cheese - the lobster was amazing. My husband had the duck, he particularly enjoyed the duck breast, very tender. Service was good - server who brought water and bread was very nice, waiter was fine. Our table was in the middle of the dining room, very close to the tables next to it - kind of a disappointment, we did have reservations and restaurant was not full, there seemed like a lot of better tables we could have been seated at. The tables on the upper level looked good. I didn't really care for either of my drinks - a mixed drink and the sangria.

Very delicious food and pricing was fair for high quality. Cooks by the bathrooms were very nice and asked how everything was. Waitress was not attentive once we got our appetizers (didn't get a second drink until almost done with meal) which is main complaint. Decor feels a little dated, but nice layout. All in all very nice meal.
