Steve and Michelle Corry, the proprietors of Five Fifty-Five, arrived in Portland armed with a passionate vision and extensive experience in the restaurant industry. Steve began his culinary career as a brew master at several breweries in Northern California. In 1999, he attended the New England Culinary Institute in Burlington Vermont. After graduating in 2001, he returned to California to work at Domaine Chandon in Napa Valley. A graduate of Boston University with a Bachelor's Degree in Hotel and Restaurant Administration, Michelle Corry has worked at numerous prestigious establishments, including the French Laundry in Napa. Together, they have envisioned a dining experience that would combine a comfortable atmosphere, professional service, and fresh, simple, and delicious food sourced locally. The holidays are here! We are open on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve (closed Christmas Day and Dec. 26). Join us to celebrate on one of these holidays or any other night this season! Private and semi-private dining options are available for corporate and personal parties.

Got tasting menu. Took 3 hrs for 5 courses. Couple next to us left after 2 hrs & only 2 courses. Disappointed with wine options--typical mega mart bottles in $10-$19 range. Server made wine selections, not the chef. Chef should do this--food is his creation & brings credibility. First course was tomato soup, which I have in my pantry. Second course was manchego cheese, which I love, but I have a block of it from Costco in my fridge. Ribeye was great with spinach purée.
We came to Portland for the weekend and went to 555 based on reviews. It was a special birthday celebration for my wife which they asked about when we made and confirmed the reservation. They sat us at a table along the railing just at the top of the stairs. Terrible table , awkward place for table with servers coming by and coming up and down the stairs. Also the smoke /smell from the kitchen was overwhelming - they need to fix this. They put a tent card on the table saying happy birthday and that was it - how about a small dessert or chocolates or something ? Why ask if you don't intend to do anything special? Service was good. Food was ok. Nothing spectacular or memorable. Even my wife thought it was just ok - and she isn't difficult to please when going out to dinner
We planned ahead to secure restaurant reservations at some of the top spots and were lucky to dine at Five Fifty-five. We were a group of 5 girlfriends and we ordered lots of items from the menu to share and enjoy. We loved the mushroom salad and lobster mac and cheese among everything else that I can't remember. The wine was great too!
Ordered the cheese platter, as advertised it came with fruit , that was a small amount of toast with some odd peanut brittle the cheese was ok. Ordered a sweet potato dish that was very tasty. Then had a the scallops that were dry and tasteless. Sorry would not go back. Annnd this place has to have had the worst bathroom location ever , directly across, within 15 feet , from the serving /kitchen station. Can not be code
Very delicious, but pretty small portions for the price they are asking. Food is very good, what they give you of it. I would only recommend it to a friend with the caveat that they understand that it is expensive and you come away not feeling quite sated. Maybe it was a bad day for produce shopping as it was the middle of the week when we went. The chef is very good just not generous.
We did the tasting menu with wine pairings and itall was incredible. The only thing that would have improved the meal was if we were seated in the main dining room. We were seated off to the side of the bar in the lounge. I had read about the open kitchen and atmosphere of the main dining room but did not see it.
My husband and I were celebrating our honeymoon and wanted a nice night out. This place was absolutely perfect! We told them we were on our honeymoon and they even had a little note at our table! We did the tasting menu with wine pairings, which was exceptional! Our server was very knowledgeable and every mortal of food was to die for!
I've been to 555 many times, and they never disappoint. The tasting menu was great, with just enough food to satisfy, without it being too much. The mussels were particularly good, as were the scallops, and the chocolate fudge cake for dessert was decadent, served with thyme ice cream, which was delicious. I will be back again!
Took one hour to get the starter. Took two hours to get the entree.
The warm mushroom salad was cold. The corn risotto was so under cooked that it was inedible .
The entree s were not hot and so so.
My Aviation cocktail was not cold when I got it and the wine I ordered with dinner had an aftertaste of gasoline.
Our waiter and the other guy were so nice to us, but there was no excuse for the food!
We celebrated our 35th anniversary there and could not have picked a better place. When you have been married that long conversation can be sparse. The tasting menu was the perfect stimulus for conversation and our server paired the wines beautifully. We left with a new list of favorites to look for in the market.
We were first given a table in the middle of the empty dining room. I asked for one of the many open tables against the wall. The host seemed very putout by the request. He finally gave us one in the corner next to the wait staffs service area. We got to have our meal with the butts of the servers all through the night.
When I complained to the head hostess on the way out she replied that they will note to not sit us at that table again.they will never get the opportunity. I think that when you pay over $200 for a nice dinner, you should not be treated like your are in a crowded cafeteria.
My wife and I went to Portland for our 1 year anniversary and were very pleased with the food and service. There was a card on the table wishing us a happy anniversary, and we each received a glass of Rose. We had muscles as an appetizer, which were very good. For dinner I had the rib-eye, and my wife had the halibut. We also ordered a side order of the lobster mac n cheese. Everything was fantastic.
We went for our anniversary and were treated to a glass of champagne when we sat down at an amazing table on the balcony where we could see the kitchen making each beautiful plate. I opted for the tasting menu with wine pairings and my husband had an amazing steak and risotto to start. Definitely one of the best meals and service we have had!
Great first time there - I had plain mac and cheese which was AMAZING! and we got the fresh baked choc chip cookies for dessert. I got engaged while there, and I presume the manager was the gentlemen, but they gave us a complimentary champagne toast at the bar which was wonderful :)
Wonderful find. Visiting Portland and saw that chef used to be at Domaine Chandon in Napa where we happen to be members. Steve, the chef, and his wife MIchelle have done a fabulous job setting up a place in Portland. Truffled Lobster Mac and Cheese was absolutely the best. My wife raved over the Halibut and she's not even a big seafood eater. Highly recommend.
Although the tasting menu looked interesting, it was too much food for us that evening. Instead, I had the grilled Caesar salad and the halibut and my husband had the heirloom tomato salad and the scallops and they were all very good. We sat on the second floor of the renovated firehouse overlooking the first floor diners and the open kitchen which was fun. Our server was knowledgeable, professional and friendly. I would recommend 555 if you're looking for an upscale experience in the Portland downtown area!
