Steve and Michelle Corry, the proprietors of Five Fifty-Five, arrived in Portland armed with a passionate vision and extensive experience in the restaurant industry. Steve began his culinary career as a brew master at several breweries in Northern California. In 1999, he attended the New England Culinary Institute in Burlington Vermont. After graduating in 2001, he returned to California to work at Domaine Chandon in Napa Valley. A graduate of Boston University with a Bachelor's Degree in Hotel and Restaurant Administration, Michelle Corry has worked at numerous prestigious establishments, including the French Laundry in Napa. Together, they have envisioned a dining experience that would combine a comfortable atmosphere, professional service, and fresh, simple, and delicious food sourced locally.
555 has always been one of my go-to spots for well-prepared, delicious food. On top of that, the upstairs dining room is perfect for a quiet evening, while downstairs has a little more energy.
I am very sorry to see this restaurant closing - YOU WILL BE MISSED!
It was restaurant week. I paid $45 for half a cup of soup, 5 pieces of pasta with three vegetables on top, and 4 "small bites". I left the restaurant still hungry (I weigh 115 lbs).
Excellent staff who were customer service friendly. Food was delicious and served hot. Wasn’t impressed with the wine pairings.
Always a great experience. They really represent during restaurant week! 5 course meal with wine pairings was very relaxed
As always, 555 delivers excellence in every way. The food was exceptional, well plated, and well sized, and the service was friendly and professional. Always a favorite, and we will be back!
From start to finish everything was fabulous. I was celebrating my 60th birthday with friends and we had the 5 course tasting menu with wine pairing.
Every member of the staff was incredible and every course was served to our party of 6 at the same time. All of the food was delightfully prepared and looked as good as it tasted..thank you for making my celebration exceptional!
Awesome visit during restaurant week!
It was very warm in the restaurant though.
It was a lovely evening. To make it better we would have sat upstairs where the ambience is more intimate and elegant rather than next to the bar. And, the food was delicious -- all but the brussel sprouts. Service was great.
It was my husband’s birthday! From the moment we walked in until the the moment we left...we were treated like gold!! This hands down was one of our top 5 meals of our lives and we are huge foodies!! We will definitely be back and are telling everyone we know living in the area or visiting the area to run not walk!
We were seated next to the open air kitchen. The chef kept screaming all night. We could not hear each other through the noise. Thus ruining what should have been a wonderful experience. Would not recommend this restaurant
I went here to celebrate my birthday and it happened to be restaurant week. My husband and I each had the 5 course menu and I splurged and got the wine pairing. Each course was excellent, the wines selected were perfect and overall, it was a great experience. The staff all wished me a happy birthday and I was even greeted with a nice birthday note on our table. I loved how the chef even spelled out "happy birthday" in chocolate with my desert. Overall, an excellent experience and I look forward to coming back!
Went for Restaurant Week and had a great experience.
We had an outstanding 5 course dinner paired with wines for each course. It is our “special place” for celebrations and we were celebrating my birthday. The food, service and wine did not disappoint us. Our waiter, Lowell, is very knowledgeable on wine and cuisine and able to assist with any questions. What a great value, especially during Maine Restaurant Week!
My wife and I had a very delicious, 5 course meal at 555 some time ago. Was a bit drawn out (over 2 hours), somewhat small tasting portions, but we left pleasantly full of delicious gourmet food. This past restaurant weekend we brought a group of 8 back to experience the restaurant. This visit was disappointing for a number of reasons:
- I received a phone message confirming my reservation and was told I had to call the restaurant back to discuss the menu. I called back and got caught in the voice message loop. No way to talk to a person. Then I was called back and agreed that our party would be seated upstairs. We were actually seated downstairs in a corner.
- while we appreciate a non-rushed dinner, the meal took almost 3 hours with large spans of waiting with no food on the table.
- Our guests were making jokes about how tiny the portions were, worse yet was that the food was average. No where near the gourmet level of our prior visit.
- Coffee had to be brewed and took forever and the restaurant was only half full.
We drove over 60 miles and thought we were bringing our guests for a memorable, gourmet experience. We left very disappointed and doubt we will ever return. Too many outstanding options in Portland are available.
Very nice place. Food was very tasty, atmosphere was comfortable. Will request an upstairs table next time.
We chose the Tasting menu with the Wine pairing. It was all delicious. The main coarse we both had Lobster Mac and Cheese and it was by far the best we have ever had.It was not to cheesy and the Lobster was tender and sweet. We couldn't finish the main coarse and took the leftovers and desert to go. Our server did a excellent job with the service and the pairing. We will definitely be returning the next time we visit Portland
Outstanding. Great food and great service. My wife and I had a great time.
My favourite restaurant in Portland hands down. Amazing small plates that change constantly
Awesome Valentines Day dinner!
We arrived for our 7:30 reservation to learn that we were being given a "balcony" seat to better celebrate our anniversary (nice!). Our waiter greeted us with glasses of champagne (nice!). He continued to be very attentive, friendly, quite knowledgeable about the menu and wines, and helped us make selections with which we were very happy. Because it was also Valentine's Day, the place was packed, yet not too noisy. We didn't learn until the day before, when we received an email saying that it was "now past the deadline to cancel", and that the menu was fixed, at $85/person, with 3 options for each of the 4 courses (drinks were extra). They were out of my first choice for the first course, but as noted above, we were very happy with all of our selections - the food was amazing! The total bill was $280 with tip (I had one glass of wine, my wife had two; dessert was the included 4th course). All in all, we had a great time, 555 made it a great night for us, and we will have fond memories of our special evening!
Over priced, too loud, over crowded. Parsnip soup is a winner. So was the crispy duck breast. Desserts were nothing special. I really want to love this place but it isn’t getting any better.
Beautiful space, but extremely overpriced for the quantity and quality of food.
We've been here twice before, and this time was good, but not close to what we expected.
Had a wonderful birthday dinner on 2/9! It was a quiet Sunday snowy night so the vibe was intimate and warm which is just what we were looking for. There was a lovely little birthday note on the table to set the tone. Our server was really energetic and fun but also provided upscale service. We felt like the meal was perfectly paced and didn't feel rushed to leave.
Always a must for special occasions! The food is delicious and the service is awesome. The recommended wine pairings were perfect! Thank you for a wonderful evening.
Service was good, appetizers (grilled caesar, beet dish) were great, the entrees were awful. We should have quit while we were ahead.
Hi Rob, I am so sorry to hear that you were not happy with your entrees during your visit with us. I was able to look back and see what you ordered and I have addressed the issue with our kitchen. I hope that we have an opportunity to serve you again in the future. Best, Michelle Corry - Owner
Fresh and delicious! Great selection of wine and beer. Will be back!
Wonderful dinner and evening. Staff very knowledgeable and attentive
This restaurant was amazing - all around amazing! My wife and I went there for our anniversary, and we couldn't have been happier with the experience. The staff was attentive, the food was amazing, the selection of food and beverages was top notch, and everything was very reasonably priced! We were seated on the 2nd level and had a view of the kitchen. It was quite an interesting experience to watch the food being prepared before being brought out. I highly recommend this restaurant for a special occasion or for just for a fun night out!
We came out for my birthday and enjoyed the chefs tasting menu. Our server, Adam, was delightful, and the busser was very attentive and funny! The food was delicious and the restaurant is beautiful
Disappointed in the food. Very small portions, over-cooked steak, undercooked swordfish. Service was ok, honest recommendations but we found it odd that he has no good things to say about any of the desserts.
We went to Five-Fifty-Five before going to the theatre. From the initial greeting, to the food, service and ambiance everything was worthy of 5 stars. This was our second time at the restaurant within 3 months and both times the entire experience was excellent.
One of our favorite restaurants. The service and food are always top notch.
Awesome place for a special night out with a significant other. It is pricey, but the dishes are unique and so worth it. Staff spoils you by going above and beyond.
Great place if you are dealing with any food allergies as well. Took great care to see my wife’s food allergy was handled.
Once again, another fabulous experience at Five Fifty-Five! The service is top notch and the food is superb. We had the tasting menu, and the chef again graciously made accommodations for my vegetarian wife. If you haven't been, do yourself a favor and book a table right now. You will not be disappointed.
Service was pleasant and attentive; Stark frittes plate was very good; short rib was tender but veg, fingerling potatoes & Brussels sprouts had obviously been cooked several days ago and were hard, cold, and inedible - don’t be open on a Sunday and serve veg from last week! The price of short rib, $38, was seriously outrageous.
The wine pours were skimpy and also over priced.
Excellent, knowledgeable, attentive and pleasant service, and fantastic food and beverage at the bar and at our table watching the snow fall. Well executed!
My Birthday!! A special dinner, as always. We had a lovely evening!!
