Steve and Michelle Corry, the proprietors of Five Fifty-Five, arrived in Portland armed with a passionate vision and extensive experience in the restaurant industry. Steve began his culinary career as a brew master at several breweries in Northern California. In 1999, he attended the New England Culinary Institute in Burlington Vermont. After graduating in 2001, he returned to California to work at Domaine Chandon in Napa Valley. A graduate of Boston University with a Bachelor's Degree in Hotel and Restaurant Administration, Michelle Corry has worked at numerous prestigious establishments, including the French Laundry in Napa. Together, they have envisioned a dining experience that would combine a comfortable atmosphere, professional service, and fresh, simple, and delicious food sourced locally.
Fantastic food, wonderfully attentive service, great place to go for an upscale weekday meal.
Our party included 2 teenagers and two adults. We decided to enjoy the 5 course tasting even though they didn’t require all of us to participate. It worked out well that there was something for everyone. Well paced, delicious wine pairings, we all enjoyed the variety of dishes. Manchego cheese plate, short ribs and dark chocolate soufflé were the highlights! Perfect portions, we left full but not stuffed.
Ambience was great for a date night. Service was fantastic and on point. Food was tasty and delicious, maybe a bit on the heavy side. The winter drinks recommended by the waiter was excellent. Would definitely visit again.
Unbelievably great servers and service. Very attentive and friendly. The food was very good. Chocolate chip cookies were burnt at the bottom but that was the only negative. Would recommend it.
We were able to be seated a little early. Our table was in an excellent location on the mezzanine level. Service was excellent, with much more attention to service than other restaurants sometimes provide. The server was very knowledgeable about the variety of wine choices, as well as, providing details regarding our menu choices.
Excellent time had with co-workers! Food was delightful and we enjoyed every bit of the atmosphere and dining experience! There was a cheese board brought to our table that started our dining off that was presented a bit too quickly to understand. We did ask her to repeat but ended up working with Hailey and Ben who made sure we were well attended to. (They even helped photograph the event amount all of their other tasks!) Five star service goes to them and the team in the kitchen!
outstanding food accompanied by excellent service. it was a snowy night and no large crowd, so we got extra attention - which was nice!
Highly-skilled and attentive bartender for pre-dinner cocktail
Excellent food and presentation
Warm and engaging service without being over-attentive
The food was superb! The staff were attentive and friendly, even in the middle of Saturday dinner during restaurant week.
Food was great. Service was ok, but server seemed overwhelmed and missed the small things.
Example: spilled drink while serving and never wiped sticky drink off table. Never replaced napkin.
Was very pleasant, just not what I have come to expect from 555.
555 is very consistent. You know you will have an excellent meal on any night. They make the best Martini around!
Had a lovely time during restaurant week. Service was impeccable. Had the five course special and all five were delicious. I highly recommend Five Fifty-Five.
My wife and I had one of the best meals of our lives! We were lucky enough to visit during restaurant week, so had the pleasure of enjoying a tasting menu of delicious food and sweet treats, paired with wine. Our server was attentive, friendly, and made sure we had everything we needed. Highly recommended!!! It was so good that we returned the next night! :)
I chose the 5 course chef's tasting dinner. Superb food with immaculate wine pairings. Fast, efficient service.
Even giving Five Fifty Five 1s in all categories I still wish I could go even lower for service and ambience. Yes, the beef was good and my partner loved the scallops, but our table was wobbly, the waiter frantically reset all of the emptying tables around the ENTIRE dinner when no one was seated in our area again, I saw one of the prep chefs lick their fingers while prepping food, the walls and carpets were dingey. It's like no one was even trying to make it a good experience. So disappointing after some incredible tasting experiences elsewhere in Portland. Go to Hugo's twice and pretend this place doesn't exist.
Had an excellent meal. Great service and just overall wonderful time
We had a really excellent dinner. The service was welcoming and impeccable. We are thrilled to have found this gem in Portland. Terrific!
The food, drinks and service were fantastic! We had a great time and a great meal! Definitely recommended!
Smoky interior, amazing dark chocolate soufflé made up for it!
I dined on Sunday night. The smoke that came from the kitchen made the experience very unpleasant, it was all you could smell. The smoke was so strong that my clothes smelt afterwards. The service was a little slow, however the food was delicious.
We went for an anniversary dinner to celebrate and Five Fifty-Five made us feel incredibly special and taken care of. They went out of their way to celebrate us, the service was excellent, the server was impressively knowledgeable and the food was great. Would definitely recommend for a special occasion.
Such a wonderful experience...
My favorite restaurant in Portland!
The meal was excellent and the wine pairings top-notch. The evening was paced well and unrushed. The chef's tasting menu provided a good selection with excellent portion sizes. While more than we would normally pay for an evening out, it was a fair value. The table was a little tight but room enough that we were not bumped with people passing by. The smoke from the kitchen did build enough to irritate my wife's eyes by the end of our meal.
We really enjoyed the special valentine's menu. The food was delicious and presented so beautifully. They used flavor combinations I never thought would be used together. I definitely recommend Five Fifty-Five!
Great restaurant for a special occasion! Wine list is great
Wait staff was great, food was cooked very well, and for a 4 course meal, felt just full enough when leaving. Pretty expensive however, so plan on dropping $200-300 when you go. Overall value would be 7/10 for taste vs cost.
We are so glad we picked Five Fifty-Five to celebrate our anniversary! They made us feel so special! The service was excellent and the food was amazing!
Overall a wonderful gastromic experience! The staff seem like they are on their toes to serve you and try to observe your status eagerly. We are excited to return soon!
The restaurant is very nice and probably has better service than our group received on Saturday. However, I had to write this post due to our bad experience. Our server was very rude. It took her 20 minutes to even come over to our table and get an order of drinks and apps. She again took very long to come back and get our dinner order. None of us could really understand what was taking so long because the restaurant was not full by any means and there were many waiters and waitresses walking around. Our waitress knew she had been taking long and gave a very insincere and careless apology to us about the wait. For the food, we loved every plate we had in terms of taste. The quality of the food was very good, but EVERY single dish came out COLD. Nothing we ordered should have come out cold as we all got hot dishes. We also found hair in one of our dishes, which ruined that entire entree. I know this restaurant is highly regarded in Portland, but it will be hard for me to ever come back based on the horrible experience that our group had. Hoping anyone who goes here experiences better service and hairless food...
Excellent food, exemplary service and delightful, quiet, romantic ambiance.
Spent to much money and the food was not worth 100 dollars
One of the finest restaurants in a city full of great places to eat. From soup to scallops to an incredible chocolate soufflé the food was divine, service impeccable and ambiance sublime. Could not recommend more highly.
A wonderfully run restaurant that is truly a rare find: attentive and well-trained waitress usually found at much more expensive restaurants, friendly and talented cooking staff in the open kitchen who maintains eye contact and even greet customers, a menu and food preparation that is true to what a food lover like myself would want - fresh, creative, attention to details, elegantly but unpretentiously presented. If one has to pick something to criticize, I would say that the dinner bread choices (salt-laced bread and butter-enriched biscuit being the only ones) could have been expanded to include some plain French/Italian bread for those of us more aversive to heavy salt/fat in our daily bread. I would love to re-visit in the future even though some driving is needed for me to get there on a regular basis.
The tasting menu my fiencee and I had at 555 was the best BEST food I have ever had. Our waitress was funny and kind and the ambience was so warm and inviting. The wine pairings I had with dinner made me rethink what wine was. I highly recommend taking the time to have dinner here.
We had the tasting menus with its succession of breathtaking flavors and textures. Also the paired wines which was an opportunity to have excellent wines and to learn. The service was impeccable -- well-timed, thoughtful, informative, gracious. The room was charming. Among the best dining experiences I've ever enjoyed.
The 5 course chef's tasting dinner with paired wines was fabulous.
Interesting, beautiful interior. Knowledgeable, personable servers. Food acceptable, but my entree (steak frites) was very, very salty. Cheerful accommodation to dietary restrictions of my pregnant daughter-went out of the way to check ingredients and to modify dish slightly. Great reflection of fresh, local ingredients in a challenging season of the year!
It was a lovely meal at 555 to celebrate my birthday. The staff was very friendly, knowledgeable and competent. Several times the food arrived before the associated wine pairing. The lobster Mac and cheese was underwhelming, but the rest of the food in the tasting menu was good and went well with the paired wines. We will be back!
Most dishes on the tasting menu were very good, although they struggled with pacing throughout the meal, with most wine pairings arriving so long after the associated dish that the server apologized each time. My coffee arrived after I had finished almost all of my dessert.
Every dish we tried here was excellent. Artful presentation and very tasty. This was our second visit and it remains one of the best places we've ever eaten.
