We had asked to be seated in the private room in an alcove both by phone and on open table. The woman that seated us was very unfriendly and placed us next to the alcove. When we asked to be seated in the alcove she told the man that the seating was reserved. The table was empty the entire we were there until the very end when the receptionist seated 4 people at a table set for 6. It was clear they hadn’t asked for this room like we had. We were very disappointed in our treatment especially since the restaurant wasn’t full and the room we asked for was empty. No reason for us to be treated in that manner.
Given it is affiliated with Lawry's, its prime rib was about average...
It was all we remember & love. Thank you Five Crowns!
It was my wife’s birthday. Usually the restaurant provides a small desert or a small cake to recognize the occasion. They did not; witch was very disappointing. Fortunately there are other fine restaurants from which to choose who acknowledge the occasion.
great food, great service. But prime rib is way... smaller than before.
Our experience was phenomenal. The prime rib was cooked to perfection. The sides were delicious. Service was top-notch. The seats were very comfortable. The restaurant had a very cozy vibe. Loved every minute of it.
Noted it was a birthday celebration when making reservations but restaurant failed to acknowledge it
Five Crowns is our go to restaurant when we want to treat ourselves with an amazing meal, great wine and relaxing ambience in front of their fireplace while sitting in comfy high back chairs. Always a lovely evening.
Best prime rib
We had Greg as our waiter - he was great. Took our own $25 corkage. Food was perfect - nice relaxed atmosphere.
We have been going to Five Crowns fit several years. Always when we vacation in Newport Beach. We have never been disappointed. We always enjoy ourselves. Best prime rib!
This last Monday at Five Crowns was excellent! We were celebrating graduation from Vet School, a long, challenging road. It was her first time there and our server Gregg made it totally special. Management was kind and accommodating to our requests resulting in a memory she will have forever. Recommend it highly for the best fine dining experience.
Went there for Mother’s Day and reservations were a snap through Open Table. Didn’t wait very long at all, probably because my dinner reservations were for 5pm, and was seated almost on the dot upstairs.
Was very curious as to why we were seated upstairs in the smallest room when there was plenty of seating in the larger upstairs room. But either way, we had the entire dining room to ourselves.
Our server was very friendly. Service was always with a smile and he made sure our needs were met.
I was expecting their full menu but, was informed they had a Mother’s Day menu with some decent options. All of us had the prime rib and one filet mignon dinner. We ordered the cream corn, cream spinach and mashed potatoes for sides.
The filet was cooked perfectly. Can’t say the same for the prime rib. One of the dishes was served closer to a medium well. We ended up soaking the meat in the au jus to get it moist. The other two cuts were fine.
All in all, it was a good meal. Yes, I could have found better prime rib elsewhere, and as matter of fact, never had problems at Lawry’s. These restaurants are supposed to be the same, in terms of food quality, I would assume.
I would recommend coming here at least once to say you’ve dined here. Other than that, I’ll continue dining at Lawry’s when we’re craving prime rib.
Raised prices 20. for Mother's Day (which was not indicated on the website menu)....For 60. a plate - waiter service should be more polished, tablecloths should be on the tables, plating of meal should have been much more appealing (though the food was ok). Haven't been back to 5 Crowns for 10 years. This used to be my favorite place! This visit was a big disappointment. We were looking for a special time, this wasn't it-sadly we won't he back. Competition is fierce in NB. They need to step it up...especially for what they were charging.
Fantastic restaurant all around. What can I say well we went on Mothers Day early in the afternoon when there wasn't that many people. Of course we were seated immediately as it was Mothers Day and were explained the cozy restaurant offerings which specializes in prime ribs and steaks. We were given a brief rundown of its history. I would say Five Crowns was a little gem considering it started back in the days when it was surrounded by open countryside and pasteurs right next to the coast. There was an extensive list of wines which was served to us professionally and we were warmly greeted the whole time. Would definitely recommend Five Crowns for special occasions.
We haven’t been to Five Crowns in years. We used to dine here once a year for nice occasions. We came for Mother’s Day as a couple of our first choices did not have openings. It was a disappointment. We were bummed out as Five Crowns offered a condensed menu. We wish we were told this when we were called for confirmation. The food wasn’t bad but it just wasn’t the high quality as I remember. The service was just average as we did have to ask him a couple of times for things he forgot. The restaurant was not even half full as now we know why. We probably will not be going back to the Five Crowns ever again.
We went as a family of five for Mother’s Day.
There was a very limited menu and the food was subpar and the service was strained.
We have been to five crowns many times and this was not a great experience.
We still love the ambience.
For arrival to departure was the most enjoyable experience. We've been going there for decades but this time it stood out in service. Besides our serve, Tommy smiles warmed the experience.
I have been to Five Crowns many times and it's usually pretty good. However when we went for mother's day it was not a good experience. I know they opened for lunch just for the special occassion and maybe that was why. Service was good but not great. The cocktails we ordered were horrible. The lobster bisque was too thick. Everything was overpriced as well. We wished we had gone elsewhere. An appetitizer and prime rib was $67. Very disappointing. To think I had my birthday celebration here and my friend had his one year old's birthday party here. This was a let down.
We visited for mother's day brunch overall experience was very good the server was excellent and the food was very good we will definitely visit again
Always a good bet when wanting to make a good impression or treat someone to spectacular food and service
Mothers Day brunch. Ridiculously high prices. Service and food very good but $32 for crab benedict over the top.
Need to rethink charging a 45% premium just for Mother's Day. Definitely out-of-line.
Every one in our party enjoy the food and everything else.
I was disappointed that no longer they had the bone marrow dish.
The Mother’s Day treat was a nice touch
This restaurant is absolutely fabulous! I've eaten here off/on for many years and whenever I want to do something special I book a reservation. I've never been disappointed in any of the potential pitfalls - service is always excellent; as is food and ambiance. I wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant to anyone seeking quality in meat offerings, although there are many other choices. They excel in both prime rib and their steaks - truly cannot be beat!
We’ve been going to Five Crowns for 35 plus years and have enjoyed the food, service and ambience.
Had a nice dinner here with friends. The prime rib was great, as always, and the sides were good too. The service was perfect and who doesn't love seeing Tommy come by their table? A great place for dinner.
The food at Five Crowns is definitely not as good as it used to be. Just like Tam o Shanter and other Lawry’s restaurants, this one has now fallen from being the absolute best (as to the taste and thickness of cut of prime rib) to being “like the others.” I cant tell you why- perhaps something as simple as that they used to dust the cut with Lawrys seasoning salt before serving- and apparently do no longer - or that they are becoming cost conscience at the expense of what they serve- but SOMETHING is different. I used to eat her frequently. It has exceptional ambiance, fabulous staff,a sommelier with decades of experience- but now while the food is good- it s no longer exceptional cuisine. What was five star cuisine is now three.
What a pleasant evening of dining. I had no idea this was a Lawrys establishment. Been going to the Beverly Hills restaurant for many years now. The food never disappoints I love the English cottage feel of this restaurant but more importantly the ambience and restaurant ambassador - Tommy Martin. This gentleman’’s LOVE of his job, patrons and stories are reminders of what the great restaurants long gone are reminders of. Thank you for a wonderful dining experience.
As always, over the 40 + years that we have been going, it was the classy restaurant that we
want for special occasions. The prime rib is always exceptionally good
It was my husband's 92 birthday.
top notch service , delicious quality food, good wine
Lovely experience. Great service and delicious food.
My girlfriend and I finally got the ability to enjoy a weekend night off together and we had an amazing time here! Jill was an amazing waitress and all of the support staff were so friendly! We come to 5 Crowns maybe once a year and love it everytime. Food is great also. Thank you for the hospitality!
Overall it was very good! My fetish is a great craft cocktail, informative barmaid, and lastly a great Prime Rib! This place covered all of those! My wife enjoys sides and she was unimpressed with creamed corn and mashed potatoes. But hey, who has time for sides. Definitely visiting again with my boys who appreciate this place for what it is.... quality meat and cocktails!
Great service, nice decor and good variety of dishes. The prime rib was great, as was the creamed spinach. creamed corn and yorkshire pudding. The pride of the crowns salad was very good and so were the lamb chops. Unfortunately, the lobster bisque was mediocre. Stay with the traditional dishes for a great meal.
An old school (in a good way) dinner house. Impressive wine list and seasonal food in addition to the traditional prime rib dinners.
Visiting the area
We were in town for an interview and absolutely loved our meal! While it wasn't a special occasion for us, the staff made it seem like it was. Our waitress was top-notch - super attentive, but not pushy or rushing in any way. She was knowledgable about the food sourcing and had a great wine recommendation. The food was fabulous and seasonal. We are foodies and definitely felt like we got to try some amazing, local, creative creations! We can't wait to come back. It's worth mentioning that we tried the original restaurant in this group the following night and didn't have the same experience at all.. We'll stick to Five Crowns ONLY from now on.
Friendly, excellent service (Daniel), best sommelier (Tommy)
