Five Crowns Ratings and Reviews
I was celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary with my son and his wife. We arrived early for our reservation time and they would seat us. Since it had been awhile being there, we looked at all the rooms before selecting a table and the staff were very understanding as we walked around. Our waiter Omar and the wine steward , Tommy were very attentive without being bothersome ! I brought a special mag of California Cab and was decanted and served with care !! I will look forward returning and trying the casual bar and food.
This was the first time we visited this restaurant as we only recently became locals in Newport Beach. The ambiance is wonderful, the food outstanding, and the service excellent. Of particular note were the oysters on the half shell. If you like fresh hot horseradish with your beef instead of the horseradish sauce, this is the place to get it. The prime rib was excellent and the Groth Cabernet perfect with the meal. My wife's Black Manhattan was outstanding, I have not had a Manhattan for a lot of years but will definitly indulge the next time eat dinner there which hopefully will be soon. This has become one of our "to go to" restaurants in this area.
Always a cozy place with very nice attentive service. I didn’t love my seasonal fish, it was just ok. This place used to be a really special place to come “in the day” but in trying to redefine itself, has lost the allure. The prime rib is still really good, I wish I would have ordered that.
I’ve always wanted to go to Five Crowns so I booked it for New Year’s Eve. I was so looking forward to a special night .
The servers were very nice and helpful . The food was ok overall but my steak was tough and for the money we spent ( too much $ ) I wish we went somewhere else. They didn’t have any decorations on the tables when we arrived for a early dinner to celebrate new but added them to the next group that came in . That was disappointing !
My husband and I had the perfect Christmas Season dinner experience, with old fashioned carollers, lovely fire and decorations, delicious prime rib, Yorkshire pudding, creamed corn and spinach and mashed potatoes. The service was friendly and first class. Best dinner out ever!!!
There was a mix-up in the reservation; Five Crowns had us down for 12/26 instead of Christmas Eve. But the hostess found us a space for six without a wait so we really appreciated the accommodation to let us have our planned Christmas Eve celebration. The carolers and bell ringers were just the perfect touch to a wonderful meal. Food was delicious as always.
We love coming here for Christmas Eve dinner for the carolers. We miss the spinning salad and the table carving. The food is still good but we miss the lawrys vibe. It would be nice to have the spinning salad as an option. The ambience is always nice and we go early enough where we are always served quickly and gone. The wait staff are always very kind, helpful and happy.
Very disappointing dinner. We waited all year long to dine here to celebrate our wedding anniversary, but left very disappointed. We enjoyed the carolers and that was about it. The service was ok, however the food was delivered cold to our table. We both had a filets, which arrived to our table undercooked and cold.
Every meal at The Five Crowns is a treat! I have a small group of servers I ask for, and was not able to get into one of their sections. But was delighted to have Sarah, as she was a wonderful server! This much improved our experience from last year’s holiday outing where our server ignored us. She was very personable, sweet, and attentive. Both quartets of carolers were beautiful and very talented and charming. Fully enjoying this holiday tradition we have set up and look forward to next year.
Five Crowns in December is a holiday tradition for our family. We all get prime rib and it's delicious. The ambiance is like an Old English restaurant--I just wish they'd change their plates to match the decor--they look like plain, cheap diner plates! The carolers and Christmas decorations make it extra festive. Off season, we love their bar/pub Side Door for a quick bite and cocktail!
Dined December 19 on a Tuesday evening. Server showed up at the table promptly and took our drink orders. Ordered end cut of prime. When dinner arrived they brought me a beautiful
End cut but there was a lot of confusion about the other 4 diners dinners being wrong. Took
All dinners back to kitchen and returned in a few minutes with all the other diners meals correct this time but no end cut for me. Servers left table so fast did not get a chance to ask
Where my end cut was. Waiter not around so decided to eat what they brought me. Since it
Is the Christmas season a group of carollers went around to each table and sang to them.
A nice touch and frankly it saved the evening for me. Parking a nightmare even though they have A big lot and valets.
I have been coming here for special occasions since childhood. My parents share the same month and year anniversary as the Five Crowns and we have celebrated their anniversary many times here. It always feels special to come here and this last time was no different. My friend wanted to take us for dinner somewhere special and with a holiday feel to it. I knew the spot without giving too much thought. My friend was delighted and so were the rest of the guests. The staff made us feel comfortable and we enjoyed the food and drink late into the night. I highly recommend coming here during the holidays. This is a special place in the history of Orange County.
Food has really gone downhill over the last 5 years. The only reason we still go is to hear the Christmas Carolers. All the wonderful ambiance is gone. At one time, the servers would ask you if you wanted hot gravy over your food and provide fresh horseradish sauce. Now small sides (gravy cold) are provided, the extra special touch is gone! Side dishes were cold and you could tell that they were prepared well in advance. Wine list has diminished, the wine we requested was not available. Additionally, I thought it was VERY tacky to put the labeled Lawry's seasoned salt and pepper on the table. Given the cost, I am not at a picnic.
we always come here at christmas because of the carolers! they make it special every time. we were upstairs this time which is usually quieter. the back area (garden) can be really noisy...large groups, nothing to absorb the noise. their prime rib can't be beat & it's the only place i know to get goose at christmas. they were very busy so an order got mixed up. they made it right, but it took quite a while to flag someone down.
I adore going with people for their first time to The Five Crowns, and holiday time makes it especially magical. I was delighted Maria, one of my favorite servers. She is warm, inviting, so knowledgeable, and lighthearted. She makes the experience that much better. Our food was delicious, perfectly timed and prepared. The carolers were delightful and filled us with Christmas Joy. I think it’s safe to say, we will be coming back again and making this a tradition.
