Five Crowns Ratings and Reviews
Top notch experience, went upstairs, seated by a double fireplace, small room, felt like a British Tavern. Very attentive staff, 3 people for that small area. Great menu selections, great wine, and a Valentine's special for two that made it a bit more affordable. This is a special occasions splurge meal, but if you like Lawry's and don't want to make the drive this is your place. Prime rib and cream corn done right.
Were seated at our allotted time after having a drink in the very crowded bar. Very good bread selection and nice touch of butter in one dish and salt in another to salt your butter. Wedge salad was very good while wife's kale Caesar was quickly not as tasty and prefer traditional Caesar. 24 oz. ribeye was cooked perfectly medium and creamed spinach and Yorkshire pudding were just as good. Very good meal and service.
Celebrated 3 anniversaries with 2 other couples. We all enjoyed the round table in the atrium area. It was relaxing. Daniel was an amazing server. 5 people had the prime rib and said it was delicious. I had the Mediterranean Sea bass which was amazing. We all appreciated our special occasion dessert too. We have not been to 5 Crowns in many years. We will be back much sooner next time. Thank you for a lovely evening.
Not inexpensive, but the Five Crowns is usually five star. It's a classy restaurant with delicious prime rib dinners complete with all the traditional British fixings. We were looking forward to a quiet Sunday night, but there was a large crowd for the early bird dinner plus a wedding reception with dancing and noisy guests. As the night went on things quieted down, so all was well. The food was excellent and the waitstaff professional. We'll be back.
Went for my 7 year anniversary with my boyfriend. Every time I’ve been to Five Crowns it’s been a good experience. Amazing food and drinks, servers and other staff who are sweet and sincere, and some great decor. And since it was our anniversary they gave us both a complimentary glass of champagne and dessert, I honestly didn’t see that coming! Thanks for helping our night extra special.
Extremely disappointed after building expectations based on reputation. We were placed in a cold room upstairs ,apparently due to overflow, with another unlucky party who had the same comments as us. The wait staff was disjointed and extremely slow - it took 2 hours to get through a dinner for three, and much of the time we were without anything on the table and no sign of wait staff for 15 minutes at a time. They ran out of butternut squash soup (our reservation was for 7:45 - not that late) and substituted lobster bisque - I should have gone for the salad. The spinach tasted odd; mashed potatoes were cool and tasted like they were out of a box, and the one of the California prime rib dinners we received was very fatty. I would have been disappointed with the service and the meal at a mid-level restaurant; for the prices Five Crowns charges, this was basically robbery. All in my party agreed we would not return. Thanks for the opportunity to comment. I hope others have better luck. This is a landmark restaurant and it needs to drastically improve to remain so.
We have enjoyed this Restaurant many times in the past, however, this time the food and the service was not to par; Our waitress had far to many tables to give good service, although she was very knowledgeable. We will, however be back. Tony, as always was delightful.
Our meal was excellent. The service was excellent. The two things that could have been a bit better were the accompaniments to the bricked jidori chicken; the spinach and rice. They were bland and did not come up to the fabulous taste of the chicken. The prime ribs end cut was to die for. Thank you and we will be back.
We come here every year to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We have been doing so for 44 years. We like the ambience; the food and service are always very good. We always enjoy coming here. Since it is a bit of a drive to get to the restaurant we don't come as often as we would like to.
Cannot overstate how disappointed we were by this meal. Drinks in the bar were great. Server great and wonderful cocktails. Dinner, unbelievably poor. Lobster Bisque was inedible. Received our Prime rib dinners and the meat (med rare) potatoes and popovers were stone cold (creamed spinach was warm). Felt horrible mentioning this due to mentioning bisque already, but did so very politely and apologetically. Server said she would bring a new plate. On new plate the food was definitely hot, but now our prime rib was well done and tough. Appeared to have been microwaved. The manager did come over and indicate he heard there was a problem. Seemed quite annoyed and while he offered, we did not feel comfortable asking for yet another (would have been third!) plate, so we ate what we had, especially in light of his less than welcoming/empathetic demeanor. They did provide one complimentary dessert, but hardly made up for extremely poor quality food at very high prices. I don't mind paying high prices, but expect a meal commensurate with the quality a restaurant is supposed to be. I have eaten here before and always enjoyed it, but it had been a few years. I was treating a friend who had not been here before and so not only was this disappointing, it was quite embarrassing. One last point; I have only complained about a meal or portion of a meal perhaps 2 times before this in my life. I was not looking for anything for free whatsoever, just a meal in line with Lawry's standards. Have never had a bad Lawry's meal anywhere else in the country before this experience.
It was supposed to be a fine dinning to impress my business associates, but it turned out to be a very disappointed one. We had a group of four people and two of us couldn't finish our prime ribs. It was rough and hard to chew even though we orderded medium rare. The other two people finished their prime ribs politely simply because they didn't want to waste their foods. I was thinking maybe because it's restaurant week so the Five Crowns lowers its quality, but isn't it supposed to do the opposite?
Our family had been during the Holidays and we loved it. Took old friends who hadn't been for years and unfortunately, they had lots to say. Gone were the table linens, just bare tables with napkins, soup arrived with no plate under it, just the necessities they missed, they had the prix fixe menu, felt the lemon tart was "store bought" as the crust was hard, not flaky, the meat was delicious. I did not have the salad or dessert, mine was great!
Service was excellent.
Came here during Newport Beach restaurant week and overall I really enjoyed the experience. Amazing medium rare prime rib, great creamed corn and yorkshire pudding. Service was excellent the entire meal. My only complaint was the tolerance they had for an extremely loud and disruptive group of diners who came in towards the middle of our meal. They were very rude to the hostess who sat them, and were so noisy that no one in the upstairs dining where we were seated could seem to enjoy their own conversations.
I loved the food. Love the new remodel. It used to be kind of dark and outdated but now it's very cool. After dinner we stopped in the bar and it is so inviting. The fireplace is roaring as you walk in the bar is Lively and seating is generous. The place was packed in the bar and the total restaurant. The Ambiance is great and we just love this place now. We used to come here but stopped because it was so outdated and dark but now we plan on visiting and coming back. It's really really fabulous
We went for a special occasion, a 70th birthday celebration. While the food is always excellent and the ambiance great, no one mentioned the birthday. When I made the reservation, I specified it was a birthday, and there were at least two other tables nearby that were acknowledged for birthdays, nothing was said to us. That was very disappointing!
We had not been to the Five Crown Restaurant for quite a few years. The wonderful prime rib was not wonderful. There was a wedding in the back and the waitress apolized for the long wait
for food. The food was fair and dissappointing. Don't think we'll return to eat in the restaurant but would consider the side bar.
Five Crowns is one of my favorite restaurants. We were there on Sunday evening for the delicious Lawry's prime rib dinners, plus salad and lobster bisque. They have many other choices as well, and sometimes get the Beefsteak Neptune, or the salmon, or other seasonal
specialty items. The restaurant is beautiful and cozy and the servers are expert and delightful.
