Very pleasant, excellent service and food
We celebrated our anniversary and had a wonderful time. We were greeted with a glass of champagne on the house, and later a complimentary strawberry short cake which was delicious. The prime rib was juicy and very flavorful. My husband and son particularly enjoyed the oysters as an appetizer. Don't pass up ordering the chocolate soufflé! The service was excellent. It was a memorable evening.
Service was extremely slow and inattentive. I was not impressed with the evening whatsoever.
Incredible ambiance. Like being in an English upscale pub.
received a gift card for xmas - great meal - prime rib was delicious - service was attentive. enjoyed our experience.
As always, great place, wonderful food! What’s not to love. No matter how many times I have been there it never disappoints.
We eat here a few times a year, especially during restaurant week when you get a fabulous 3 course dinner for $50 per person. We shared the cauliflower soup and octopus as a starter, both were great. The main course was our favorite course, we got the california cut prime rib, which took up the whole plate it was so big, but tender and mouthwatering. We tried the mashed potatoes, creamed spinach and creamed corn, which were delicious and just put the meal over the top. I love the Yorkshire pudding that comes with it, which is basically a popover like roll. The dessert was a chocolate sundae and just a perfect finish to the meal. In addition to the great meal we also received top notch and super attentive service. It is so rare to find a restaurant with such great service even down to the hostess who seated us.
I took my niece and her boyfriend to the Five Crown during OC Restaurant Week. The service was spectacular. The waitress was highly attentive. All of our food was well prepared and delicious. My Manhatten was near perfection. We had an exceptional dining experience.
Expected better quality and size of prime rib. When you are spending $45 you expect a minium of a 16 oz cut but only received about 10. Mashed potatoes and cream corn were great. Also, the desert menu was seriously lacking in diversity. There was nothing there that was very exciting.
Lawry’s in Beverly Hills has way better creamed corn and mashed potatoes. The creamed corned was too sweet and of really thick consistency. The mashed potatoes tasted like instant potatoes similar to the Lawry’s at South Coast but expected there since it’s a quick bite restaurant. Lawry’s Beverly Hills also has better servers that are a lot more friendlier and attentive. The prime rib was just as tasty as the Beverly Hills location.
Ambiance and food were great. We had a corner room for our group of six people to celebrate our mom's 91st birthday. Our server is a nice lady but she was not that tentative. The whole experience made us feel like we were in the back of the room, unlike the last time we were there to celebrate our son's birthday. We had to waive down four separate times throughout dinner for services. Not acceptable at fine dining experience.
Five Crowns is a long time favorite spot for my family. It feels like a trip to England without the long plan ride. It's old world ambiance combined with delicious comfort food . The servers are attentive and cordial. My favorite spot is the fireplace room.
Resturant Week great deal for 50 dollars. This restaurant is a staple in the corona Del Mar area. This is your week to try this restaurant!
We returned after 25 years to find a completely different experience. The food was great as we remembered. The only change is the server attire. Last time we visited the servers were dressed as English wenches; unfortunately the attire has been updated. But the service was excellent and the food outstanding. The chocolate souffle was a nice way to cap off our dinner. Definitely a recommended restaurant.
My wife and I had dinner on a Saturday evening for a "date" night. We were surprised to see the valet lot full at 7pm. The restaurant was busy but we were seated as soon as we got there. For as busy as it was the service was top notch as usual and it was not loud or noisy at all.
We were able to have great conversation and our server was prompt but not pushy. We had brought our own bottle of wine and before we knew it Tommy was there to open for us. We made small talk with him and found out he has worked there for over 50 years!!
We have never had a bad experience at this restaurant and have been coming for over 30 years. We even had a private party for our 25 wedding anniversary which our guests have continually commented at how nice everything was. It has always and will continue to be a very special place for us.
Have your cocktails SOMEPLACE ELSE! Five Crowns has become the Home of the SHORT POUR! Order a Martini there and not only will there be a full inch between the top of the liquid and the brim of the average size glass, BUT, it will also cost you EIGHTEEN DOLLARS! I’m sorry, but this is totally unacceptable. I’ll pay the big bucks for the drink, but shaken tableside and filled to the brim should be in order. Also, don’t go there for ANYTHING other than prime rib. The other entrees are bland and boring. The glory days of Five Crowns are over, at least while present Lawrys management is at the helm. It would be great if someone who understands class and tradition bought FC and restored the linen tablecloths, the elegant chargers and, above all, restored the menu to days of yore. If you drink anything there, order a BOTTLE of beer or a BOTTLE of wine. It’s hard for them to cheat you that way. Damn I miss the way Five Crowns USED to be!
Five Crowns is an old, traditional "English" pub style restaurant. It is good and consistent. You know what you will get when you come. It is nice for special occasions. Don't expect an inventive menu; this is all about traditional fare.
Great service with the food continuing to meet the “old” Lawry’s standards. Thank you for maintaining the classics that Lawry’s is known for.
Best prime rib in the world. Service always excellent.
Our occasion was a family party for my wife's birthday. She has been a fan of 5 Crowns for many years. My wife was not disappointed and she enjoyed the occasion very much as did all the guests including myself. The food was great.
This is my favorite restaurant in all the world. I’ve been coming here since I was a kid and I’ll keep coming til I die. Coolest place around. Lots of memories.
Had a very nice evening. Place is very interesting, food is good and the service was excellent.
I ordered the Crown Cut Prime Rib...it came medium and I ordered Medium Rate...it was as dry...even with the bouillon based au jus. The gravy on the Ill-spiced mashed potatoes was also bouillon based and not tasty. I had the creamed spinach...again, bland. Our server was obviously new and when I told her about the PR, she said “yes, I noticed that” but did not take it back! We asked for one more piece of bread...she never brought it. I have eaten at Five Crowns many time...this was bad!
A Late Valentine and Early Retirement Dinner celebration for 2. We enjoyed our time there very much. The Valet was pleasant and helpful. Our server and bus staff were very good. Our server quickly handled my Filet being under cooked, and kept checking on my satisfaction there after. I was glad I turned the filet back in, as I enjoyed it immensely.
We found the restaurant great. The food was good, however there are many other restaurants at this level of expense with as good or better food. Loved the ambiance. Service was excellent.
This was my first time at the five crowns restaurant. I was looking for some prime rib and it was suggested to me that they have very good prime rib. I can honestly say the prime rib was good but it wasn’t outstanding for the price. I ordered their standard cut and got more bone then I did meat. There are other places with better prime rib and better prices. I won’t be revisiting this restaurant again
Old English decor. Fabulous service. Wonderful prime rib dinner. Intimate atmosphere.
Food great, slow on the delivery.
The service was just average. In the old days they would give you attention and make it a great experience. The prime rib for $42 was small in portion. Sides are expensive and when you buy a filet Mignon you have to buy sides as extra.
Five crowns needs to up their game.
Everything was great, our waitress was fabulous and we loved the patio seating
Outstanding, not only the food, the service, and the waitress. We celebrated Valentine's Day here, and our first visit in five plus years.
We enjoyed a memorable evening celebrating Valentines Day. Omar, our waiter, was excellent, and the meal was amazing.
A great restaurant that we have been coming to for many years. The food and service are always outstanding.
Consistently good food with excellence service. Warm ambiance. Professional staff.
Chinese New Year
Food was outstanding. The valet parking is a shakedown. One downside was next table had a companion dog. Its shampoo or whatever the owner put on it was overpowering.
The service was bad...towards the end of the night after asking twice and waiting for over 15 minutes I gave up and went to the front to ask the hostess for help to find our waiter and get the bill.
Top notch experience, went upstairs, seated by a double fireplace, small room, felt like a British Tavern. Very attentive staff, 3 people for that small area. Great menu selections, great wine, and a Valentine's special for two that made it a bit more affordable. This is a special occasions splurge meal, but if you like Lawry's and don't want to make the drive this is your place. Prime rib and cream corn done right.
First time here after hearing about it for decades! Pleasantly surprised by quality of food. Seriously the best Prime Rib ever and great/fun service! It is an old-fashioned/Traditional Tavern ambiance which is great.
