We have always liked Five Crowns but haven't been there for a while and were a little disappointed with the food tonight. If u order the Crown Cut prime rib just know that it is not all that thick. See if they can slice it thicker. Ask that the side dishes, e.g., creamed corn be served hot, not tepid. Ask for extra whipped cream at the onset when you order chocolate soufflé in case the waiter doesn't come back around quick enough to get you some more. The creamed spinach was not near as good as Fleming's or Mastro's. Perhaps it was just an off night? Maybe ask for a taster before actually ordering it. Ask for a taster of the lobster bisque before actually ordering that, as well. It was bland when we had it tonight. They gave my daughter and her fiancé a complimentary congratulations dessert, so that was thoughtful. The people are nice, but the food was just a bit of a let down.

Food has gone way, way down hill. My parent brought me there when I was 8. I am 60. We sat in a room next to Richard Nixon. Now your crowd wears baseball hats and T-shirts.

I wore a tie on Saturday, so did my son. We felt like no one else respected your restaurant, thus neither did we.

The food is weak. Small horseradish cups, small servings of sides, on the same plate as the prime rib, which was undersized.

All of the things that brought us there years ago for every special occasion are gone.
I was told to “not give it another chance” I should have listened.

Also, it was always 5 Crowns, prior to your ownership. Stop saying it got its name as the “5th jewel”.... it’s a lie. You kept the name because of the area, name recognition. And in the process you killed it.

I hadn't been to the 5 Crowns in years. My wife decided that she wanted to go there for her birthday. Made a reservation and asked for a nice table for a birthday celebration. We got there early to have a drink before dinner at The Side Door, the other half of the 5 Crowns, but the bar was full. Went to the hostess and they seated us even though we were early at a nice table. Were brought water and bread in a timely manner and our waitress took our drink order. We had our drinks and ordered dinner. Everything was nicely paced even though it was pretty busy night and our waitress had many tables. Unfortunately, there was a long stretch before we saw our server again. So long, in fact, that she sent a bus boy out to tell us that she would be with us soon. We noticed that she was paying an inordinate amount of time with other 2 and 4 top tables. My wife had ordered the chocolate soufflé as dinner was being served. I don't know if they went to Paris to get the soufflé or not but it took a long time. Dinner was about $300. I think for a $300 dinner, I might try a more intimate and less crowded restaurant.

Just wish every time we visit we don’t get shoved into the front room ! I get the sense the best tables go to the VIPs . Spoil us we will return more frequently. Lots of choices in Newpotkrt Coast.

Paula was our waiter and provided excellent service and menu selections. This is the 2nd time I have had the pleasure of Paula being our waiter. She is an outstanding representative of your restaurant and her out going demeanor only added to an excellent meal. The first time was a date and the 2nd time I brought me nephew to enjoy a nice meal after his first quarter in college.

The service although friendly, was very slow. They got one prime rib order wrong. Medium rare was over cooked. They kindly took it back but our friend was not served until the end of our meal. She took it home disappointed that this time it was medium rare but it wasn’t the same cut as before. Total fail. None of the dishes were memorable. The server required we order dessert early because it takes awhile to prepare so we ordered when our dinner arrived. Dessert came awkwardly late. At closing time. So we rushed through dessert and left.
Horrible experience. We won’t be back.

Five Crowns is an INSTITUTION here in the OC. It's one of the three best restaurants in Newport Beach (and it has much more character than any of the others.)

We were celebrating my wifes birthday. They were told it's a speical occasion. We got setted at the worst table, the cold breeze was blowing next to our table, then they move us to another table with large group of people with 3 small children screaming most of the night. They had to move us twice in the middle of our dinner. They restaurant was half empty and there was so many other nicer tables available. It's just a common sencea!!! Poor custmer service!!! We did not have a good experience, specially when we were celebrating a special day!!

Foods such as Prime Rib is worth to have. Roasted Chicken was amazing! If you are not a big fan of seafood, starters may not be interesting to try. Generally, the services were really nice and gentle, but the server that I had was awkward (Poker face)and forgot to bring my red wine. A good service should be delivered in a very impressive, excellent and natural way, but it was always should be personalized!!

Wonderful gem in Corona Del Mar. Faithfully recreates that olde' english pub feel. Amazingly attentive staff, knowledgable on their dishes and wines. Cozy ambience throughout, I was honestly expecting to walk out into snow after near convincing myself I was in an English pub, alas, it was still warm out and undoubtedly California.

The restaurant is certainly on the pricey side, but it's not an everyday location to frequent. If you're in the area, this is a great place to try out, good food, great staff and a warm inviting interior. What's not to like ;)

My husband and I got to tried some vintage rare wines this time, and we really liked 2013 silver oak. their crown cuts are always so delicious with great sides. I substituted one of my sides to Truffle fries and it was amazing! We love five crowns and will keep coming back :)

The wagyu steak was the best steak I have ever eaten, and the crème brulee was also made to a classic standard. The steak Neptune my wife ordered was lacking in , well, crab meat (2 succulent king crab de-shelled pieces would have been perfect). The duck fat potatoes were good. The one unacceptable dish, and I do mean unacceptable...was the Brussel sprouts. Burnt to the point of shoe leather, they were inedible. Sorry but my wife's Brussel sprouts are always tender, cooked in brown butter almonds. Those need a complete reevaluation by management.
The service was first rate, as is Jimmy's hospitality, always a pleasure.

As always the staff and kitchen did the best job of making us feel welcome, serving us in an unrushed way, and preparing amazing food. And the special dessert for our anniversary was such a special touch!
Thank you to all

We vacation in Newport Beach annually for a week to celebrate my wife's birthday. After 10 annual visits, we have only 1 restaurant that's a "must" each year....Five Crowns. We love the
quiet, warm atmosphere, excellent service (ask for Tommy...he's been there for 49 years!),
excellent quality menu. Quite possibly the best prime rib dinner we've found anywhere. Convenient valet parking and a "side door" bar if you want only a quick bite and beverage.
You will not be disappointed.

We’ve eaten here numerous times and a 75 mile drive is still very worth it. Great menu with specialty items that are terrific, besides the best prime rib in the OC. Nice wine list to go with dinner.

We went to Five Crowns because of a friend's recommendation and for the prime rib. My husband loves prime rib and Five Crown's Prime Rib did not disappoint.

Our waitress has worked at Five Crowns for over five years. We loved her passion about the restaurant and the food.

Our wine was served at the perfect temperature. It was not decanted until it reached the table and we had tasted it.

Everyone is the restaurant is amazing.

The food is phenomenal.

We will go back.

The decor is Olde English, so the plastic or what feel like plastic tables without the traditional white tablecloths are a huge disappointment. Our server was excellent, but reminded us of Mrs. Patmore, when we really wanted Lady Mary, but would happily have settled for any pretty, young miss in one of the Lawry’s outfits from the 1980’s. The cocktails are good, but the pour is short for the price and not on a par with other fine Newport Beach restaurants. In short, the ghosts of prime rib dinners past haunts Five Crowns, weeping over the loss of so much that was great about this one-time five star eatery, which these days only rates three, at least in our opinion. Gene Montesano needs to buy this place and bring it back to its former glory.

Horrific. Ordered a medium filet and it came out seared on edges but completely raw! Sent it back and it returned a little less raw... completely rare. They removed it from the bill and gave me a complimentary dessert but the other food was below average at best... On a good note the staff was nice but I will never go back there ever again.

My wife and I come to 5 Crowns for special occasions and with maybe one exception in over 40 years everything was OUTSTANDING !!! I always go over the menu, but I have never changed my order of the 5 Crowns cut Prime Rib with a double order of creamed spinach. You just can't beat it. The only thing that I could wish for is that they would come back with their Grand Marnier soufflé. They have a dark chocolate soufflé which is great for chocolate lovers. However, the Grand Marnier soufflé was THE BEST !!!!!! Bon Appetite !
