Five Bistro Ratings and Reviews
Enjoyed a friend’s engagement at Five Bistro. The 4 of us shared a couple appetizers - the gnocchi was delicious. And we each found a perfect main course. Although the menu is small, the selections offer something for everyone. Chocolate cake to finish dinner off was perfect. The atmosphere is upscale but casual. The service was terrific. Tried my first locally made vodka. A great place to break bread with good friends!
Five Bistro has become one of my favorite restaurants and reminds me of Gerald Crafts' Niche when it was located in Benton Park. The menu selections are fresh, local, and delicious! Wide and interesting beer, wine and craft cocktail menu. The service is attentive, Kevin is awesome, understanding the fine balance that allows you to enjoy a leisurely meal. It's a place where you are invited to take your time and savor the flavors of each item.
We had reservations for New Year's Eve. We were seated promptly. We had the prefixed menu for that evening. The food was awesome, the service was spot on, my husband added on the wine flight and that was great also. It was very busy but everything flowed through the evening. We loved it. The scallops, the sirloin roast, the homemade breads and the dessert was to die for. We will be back.
Kevin our server was very attentive to our enjoyment I definitely enjoyed meeting the manager and I assum it was his wife they made you feel welcome. Warm and cozy place for a very cold night cocktails and the wine with delicious. Let’s not forget the meal very good enjoyable.
Table was ready. Waitstaff were excellent. Food is locally sourced and neuvo. Short menu. Had ravioli for appetizer. (3) stuffed with cauliflower. Were underdone. Wife had chicken (was excellent, root vegetables accompanying tasted only if au jus. I had monk fish. Very tasty. Was slightly underdone but very soft and good. Beet and citrus sauce was good, tasted mostly of citrus. Warm chocolate cake. Good, light on sugar. Latte was good
The staff was excellent. We had a member of our dining party who is hard or hearing and requested that they turn the volume of music down, and they accommodated. Limited menu but delicious. Our waiter was attentive and absolutely superb - as was the entire staff. Food was very good. I would definitely go back.
We went to Five Bistro for the first time with great anticipation due to reviews. There were 4 of us and we eat at a quality restaurants monthly. We all appreciate food and make a decision to try a new restaurant each time, mostly following reviews. Overall the food was bland and needed salt. The risotto was bland but had an overwhelming pepper flavor. I like pepper but this was way too much. The bread appetizer was not worth the $5 and was unimaginative and boring. Out entrees were good, the chicken leg, pork roast and lamb chops, but not great. The dessert was 50/50. The chocolate cake was good/great but the panna cotta was bland and not even worth more than one bite. And to top it off, at the end of the meal we were given chocolate chip cookies which were bland and needed salt as well. Overall this was our worst restaurant experience since we started over a year ago. Very disappointing.
Food was very good, great tastes that are hard to find anywhere else but still hard to rationalize cost.
Left after the $100 six course chef special, basically everything on the menu but in super small portions, still feeling hungry.
It was paired nicely with the wines, wines were very small portions.
Just be aware of the Prix Fixe menu; it isn't prix fixe in the usual sense where you pay a "fixed price" and you get to order different courses. At this restaurant you pay the fixed $50 price but certain choices incur a hidden charge. So my $50 prix fixe dinner ended up costing $57.
The menu explanations were over the top. I can see explaining choices prior to ordering but to give an explanation of all ingredients when each plate is delivered seemed pretentious. Let the food speak for itself.
I always forget about Five, and that's a crime. Lovely food, beautifully presented, and rich in local seasonal ingredients. My only complaints: lots of hard surfaces make for a weirdly tense environment; and there was a mix-up over a simple wine order, which we were billed for anyway. Go for the food, but pay attention to the service.
Always excellent service to go along with the excellent food. Complimentary champagne from Jacob at the bar to greet us returning out of town customers-- much appreciated!. Delicious cocktails, tasty amuse-Bouches, and superb quality farm to table ingredients presented just so! Had the 4-course tasting menu with some wine we brought ourselves... but don't hesitate to ask Jacob for suggestions. They have very reasonable, interesting and eclectic bottles at great prices. I love Five Biarritz! It's a culinary gem! Just wish I lived closer!
Chef Tony Devotti is a master. I have never, ever been disappointed by anything he has served! He uses the freshest local ingredients, prepares his own charcuterie, and creates exciting and interesting dishes that never fail to please. It's always a celebration when we got to Five Bistro.
we have eaten at Five many times and it is different, in a good way, every time based on what comes out of the garden located next to the restaurant. When they say local they mean local.
It is interesting that when five of the top chefs in St. Louis were asked who the most underappreciated chef in St. Louis was 2 of them said Anthony Devoti of Five Bistro.
The only complaint I have heard from people is that the servings are small. My rejoinder is that they should slow down and enjoy the big flavors that each dish provides. I invited a food professional friend and his wife to join us and he was enthusiastic about everything that came before us, particularly the beets which had been harvested that afternoon.
Please go on an evening when you can spend some time dining and drinking so you can experience a true locavore meal.
Five is one of my favorite restaurants. The menu selections are fresh, local, and always delicious! Of note is that I have a food allergy and they always accommodate my diet and give me a tasty meal every time. The service is attentive, but we always enjoy a leisurely meal there. It's a great place to go and talk and savor the evening -- whether with your spouse or date or with a group.
