Fitler Dining Room - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
Fitler Dining Room has a short menu, but one that captures what 95% of diners would like (fish, poultry, meat). It stands out in its use of very fresh ingredients and locally sourced food. The dishes are innovative without being tiresomely trendy (and unusual or trendy ingredients just for the sake of being deemed innovative). The waitstaff were way above the usual center city waitstaff. The woman who seated us listened to a request (that the music be lowered a bit as one of the people at the table was over 90) and actually responded to it. (Often waiters/waitresses will smile and then go off and do absolutely nothing.) Our main server was poised, could give us the relevant information succinctly and knew how to be appropriately watchful and attentive without being intrusive or overly friendly (e.g., the type who come over every 10 minutes and say "How are you guys coming along?"). This restaurant is a gem of direct, honest, intelligent and tasteful approach to dining. It really is a dining room.
The food was tasty, the menu was small but interesting. 2 people at my table ordered the half chicken and they both got only a leg and a sliver of breast meat (for $28) so I would say there is very little value here. I would save your money and go to any other Italian restaurant that will charge less and give you a real portion.
I rarely take the time to write online reviews but our experience here was heavenly. The menu here is small but absolutely everything was to die for. The staff had excellent suggestions for food and drink and the decor is adorable. We were dining on a fairly tight budget for someplace at this price point, but the server had excellent suggestions and wasn't trying to over-sell.
Overall disappointing due to the quality of the food at brunch. First, I ordered blueberry pancakes. Two thick pancakes arrived dripping with a blueberry "jam" which was not part of the menu description and which I did not want. I tasted the pancake on the bottom which was loaded with so many blueberries (you would think a good thing) that the batter inside was not cooked through even though the exterior was very brown and dry. The waitress graciously took the pancakes and offered a replacement without the "jam". I instead ordered something completely different - bucatini alla carbonara. That dish looked very appealing but was pretty flavorless for $18. The wait staff was very attentive and polite throughout the meal and kept my coffee mug full without having to ask for a refill.
Really pleasantly surprised by this street corner gem! Excellent service from start to finish. Special thanks to Don for his expert descriptions of offerings and his kind demeanor. Price point was affordable (perhaps even a bit low considering the quality and portions!). All told, a great spot. Try the oysters if they're available. The tuna was superb. Dessert was a fun surprise of strawberry compote-filled donuts. The table adjacent was rather loud, but in a jovial manner that didn't disrupt too much. We'll be back!
Was not expecting it to be as good as it was; so many places talk a good line, but... this was really good. Decently sized--which is to say not disgustingly large--portions, and great server. We enjoyed brunch; the oysters were perfect, the baked stuff was very good. My salad was lovely and everyone enjoyed what they ate. It was sunny though we were inside and it was very airy and nice.
This was my second time dining at Fitler Dining Room and the meal was fantastic, the service was delightful and we had a table by the window that let us enjoy the beautiful window boxes. Our waitress made fantastic wine and entree recommendations and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
Loved, loved, loved this neighborhood gem. We live in California and chose this restaurant from Open Table in Philly. Not only was the neighborhood adorable but the restaurant was the best. The food along with the service was excellent. Our only wish would be to have this restaurant where we live!!! Thank you so much for making our Anniversary special.
The restaurant is small but bright and comfortable. The noise level is low, which makes conversation easy. The food is really delicious, inventive but comforting. Friendly informed attentive service. All together a wonderful neighborhood restaurant and well worth return visits.
