The restaurant is not that big and I recommend making a reservation. We were a group of six that went to dinner before a show. The server was very attentive and friendly as was the host who seated our party. The food was very good. We all ordered a different dish and tasted each other's dishes and they were all good. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.

Food was generally good, but not great - some dishes better than others. Probably not fair to rate a restaurant for a Valentine's Day dinner, as it was packed & everybody seemed to be doing the best they could. Smoked octopus was very good. Tuna steaks were very good. FIsh & chips just okay. Desert tart just okay. Biggest problem was wait time - we had to wait 15 minutes past our reservation time to be seated, and there was a very long wait between courses. Noise level moderated by smart audio design, so even though loud, very comfortable having a conversation.

We went before a show at the beacon that happened to be on Valentine's Day. I've been here several times before and always had a great experience Granted not the best night to be at a restaurant but for such a quality place that's owned by a food network judge I would have expected some level of service. We had an early reservation due to the show at 6:15. Waitress took our order, was very nice , but we never saw her again. Runners bought us our food and after they cleared the apps they ever replaced our silver ware. They bring our entrees and but no silverware Took forever to track someone down to get us a fork and knife. Out drinks were empty by then, no one asked us if we wanted another set of drinks. No one came by and asked us how are meal was. On a positive note , the bronzino was perfect. Back to the service , No one ever cleared our dishes after the entrees were done no one even asked us if we wanted coffee or desert. After a lengthy wait we were able to track someone down to bring us our check. I'm 55 years old and eat out regularly and for the first time ever I did not leave a tip. I wrote on the tip line " we were invisible ". All of this being said I've been to Fishtag several times in the last and had a good experiences the previous times I went

Main complaint was that the room is getting shabby. Table and place settings not so great.
Not an especially good choice for restaurant week as it’s really not cheaper than the à la carte menu also of the two desserts one was not available. The food was very good, the mussels loved and the chicken superlative. The service was great. All in all a fine time.

All in all a very uneventful dining experience. Went there during restaurant week and the first thing we are told is that one of the desserts is not available. Appetizers and entrees were good but nothing special that I’d want to have again. Waiter forgot to bring second round of drinks.

In a nice UWS nook (where Kefi and 777 once we’re) in 79th Street, this restaurant was friendly but disorganized, the service remarkably slow despite a less than full house. Dinner for three was entirely bland, and overpriced to boot. A disappointment.

The meal was delicious. It got noisy as the evening wore on — more crowded, more drinking, but the room seemed absorb some of the noise. Did not impact good conversation with a good meal. We’ll be back!

Excellent find for a Saturday brunch. Reasonably priced large portions of excellently prepared dishes. The server was attentive and nice. The restaurant was conducive to private conversation. I would definitely go again.

I ordered grilled octopus and branzino, two favorite dishes. They were inedible.

We always enjoy Fishtag. This time we ordered smoked tuna, which was sensational: bright-tasting and fresh. The grilled calamari salad was also very fresh-tasting, with crunchy vegetables to offset the texture of the squid. One of us had the fish and chips - nice piece of cod absolutely smother by huge chips and - surprisingly - arugula. We'll return. We always do.

Wine list for bottles very limited. Ordered something more expensive than I would have pr ferrd because there was no range between $50 and $75. Value otherwise excellent for food but this lowered my value rating above.

Overall it was very good, a few points of feedback on the food but would definitely go back or recommend. This was one of an increasingly few restaurants where the seating was set up so that you are not sitting right next to or on top of someone else. I am willing to pay a premium on the prices to have some sort of privacy, so this was a big plus for me on a date. Secondly, if I go out to eat or certainly if I spend a decent amount on a meal in the city I want it to be something that would be hard for me to recreate on my own or if your having a night out see something that comes out with a bit of a wow factor and gets you excited. I definitely got that just looking over the menu options, but also visibly was excited to dig into the smoked sable fish appetizer as soon as it hit the table, very enjoyable flavors too. The paella exciting as the sablefish when it hit the table, but it did taste great. The portion on the paella and what you ended up getting with the sablefish appetizer, along with the branzino entrée portion was deserving of 4 stars on value.

The critique I have is on overall taste/flavor for certain dishes. I was missing something on the branzino and the catalan shrimp appetizer, both me and my date agreed the branzino was probably the worst thing we tried. I thought it was just bland myself. Sort of a charred flavor on the outside more so than just a grilled flavor, I usually look forward to grilled fish skin taste but this was sort of a dry/bland to me. Maybe it just did not marry well in my mouth with all the other things I tried that were perhaps stronger, I'm not sure. I felt the same way about the shrimp, nothing really said wow, just larger shrimp I wouldn't reorder unlike the sable or the paella. But overall, very good meal and the environment for the date was perfect. I think if all the entrees had the same sort of wow factor as the sablefish appetizer, this could definitely be one the best or my favorites in the city.

My wife and I consider ourselves foodies. We enjoy most food, but when food is particularly good, we have “moments”. We had several “moments” enjoying the food at Fish Tag. Wow! We booked an open table 15 minutes prior, because of reviews and it was the last table for a couple hours. Did not disappoint. With all the restaurants in NYC, we usually never eat at the same restaurant twice... with rare exceptions. We’re committed to make Fish Tag one of those exceptions. So good. We’ll be back.

We had a group of 9 with three generations from 30 to 80. The staff was organized and attentive, even when we swapped seats. The smoked fish was fabulous and the wine was reasonably priced.
Great time for a get together pre- wedding.

Affordable and diverse brunch menu options: from smoked fish, to various egg recipes, to a pretty good lamb burger. Food is quite tasty without being mind-blowing - felt pretty good value for money. Inattentive and slow service in a nearly empty restaurant undermined the experience

We use to use this restaurant as our go to. We hadn’t been in a year so on this special occasion ,of my birthday, we went back and it was again spectacular. We will be back and we won’t hopefully wait a year.
