Waitress was not very helpful.
If we are going to pay $10 for a glass of wine; we would like to
be "sold" on how good it is.
Couple of disappointments! Waited a long time for my oysters to come out. It wasn’t busy 5:45 on Saturday night. Bread served was stale. Got Sangria which was very good but served in small glasses which for $10 is a poor value. Both entrees were very delicious but once again portions left a lot to be desired. It’s a shame that small details are missed. Otherwise this would be an exceptional restaurant!
The service, food, and wine were outstanding. Kim and Lili were the best. Jessica has put together a great team. We will be back again and again.
Food was excellent, servers were helpful and knowledgeable about the menu options. This is a great place for an event or gathering
Wonderful food and ambiance. We did our valentines date and the decorations were really cute.
We went for Valentine's Day and had a reservation at 7:30. The service was great overall. We have been to other restaurants where Valentines Day has been a nightmare, but they have their act together at Fish.
They offered a $65 per person prix fixe menu since it was a special occasion. The food was good, but not spectacular. I had scallop ceviche (best dish of the night), seafood "paella" with couscous, and lemon mousse for dessert. My fiance had fried mozzarella, lobster ravioli, and a berry cobbler. The seafood dishes were great, wasn't a big fan of my dessert though. Also the portion on the fried mozzarella was too big - my fiancee got "cheesed out" and I had to finish it.
Overall it was a positive experience, but I didn't think the meal was a good value. When the total bill comes to over $200 for 2 people, I really expect to be wowed. I would definitely go back for a regular date night meal when you don't have to deal with the valentine's day upcharge.
Valentines dinner started out with good appetizers but the entrees were not good. Lobster ravioli were cold. Out of the only dessert that looked good and the ones we got were terrible.
Valentine's Day and we figured it might be busy and a little slow, but even accounting for that...inattentive service. My cocktail featured a thin slice of lime that looked like it was cut days before....brown down the edges. The shrimp on the Raw Bar Sampler were excellent as was the cocktail sauce.
Ordered from Prix Fix menu...the mozzarella app was big flat burgers of fried cheese and oily. Sauce was good. My filet mignon was ordered medium-rare and came out grey and overcooked with almost no pink...but worse, it had been cut in half horizontally and cooked like two burgers then dropped on top of mashed potatoes with gravy. Badly executed.
The lemon mousse dessert should have been a highlight, but had almost no flavor...no lemon flavor...and was like eating curing wallpaper paste. Disgusting. Had to sit with it for 10 minutes before I finally got up and demanded a manager.
Told the manager how disappointed we were. She argued that she watched the bartender slice the limes that morning. [That morning? Who slices fruit 10 hours in advance??]. She then unapologetic-ally snatched up the bill and returned it with a $54 credit with no explanation and walked away.
The only real positive was how very nice and engaging the bartender was....she was apologetic and encouraged us to try them again in the future for $1 oysters.
The final straw was when my date awoke in the night and was violently ill and in the bathroom literally for hours.
No way I'd go back there, ever.
Caveat, first visit being Valentine’s Day. Of course, very busy and not best sample. We waited about 10 minutes for our table, not outrageous given that we had 7:00 reservations. Service was timely, even with a full house, however, there were a few glitches. Twice offered bread, yet, it never appeared. We ordered a bottle of wine, (all wine prices seemed a bit high, but not outrageous) however, the server was working with a worn out corkscrew and she was clearly not practiced in removing a cork.
The food was fine. The menu was prix fixed and limited due to the day.
We will return on a quieter evening to give them a fair shot at a higher rating and a chance to outshine Legal Seafood.
We went for a Valentine’s dinner and was surprised to see that it was a limited menu and at a very high price of $65 per person. Think it’s great to offer a special but should offer other options. None of the options were anything we not great... wanted to get up and leave but was too embarrassed to do so. The meal was 200.00 with top and having one drink and as a result of being forced into it I will likely not go anytime soon..
Valentine's Day. It was a very expensive price fixe menu, $65 a person without wine. Entree choices were limited and frankly nothing appealed to us. Filet was overlooked, and accompaniments on the halibut were not great. Disappointing since we have always had great experiences here. Will go again, but not for this.
Oysters were amazing. Seated in the bar/lounge area..Music was very loud.
I had heard a lot about Fish. I live close to the City of Boston and my wife and I went to a movie at the Regal cinema In Marlborough. The movie ended at 9 and we had a reservation for 9:15 pm. It was a Saturday night.
We enjoyed Fish immensely. There was a live Jazz band. It was noisy and the band and thd singer was not particularly spectacular. But the ambience , the food and the service ? All great. We had a drink called “ purple velvet”( I think) The calamari as an appetizer and the haddock filet ( fantastic) and the fish and chips as entrees.
I would recommend this place for dinner.
Fantastic food and cocktails- just the best! This was a Saturday night- 2/3/18- live music was so loud we couldn't hear ourselves talk. Several tables complained, wait staff reported this to the manager but no relief. Still an amazing meal, I'd surely come back again- just so loud it was disturbing. I really wish the manager had listened to the waitstaff. We did not complain - it was other tables. We were seated directly behind the front desk so that's how we heard it all.
This was our 3rd visit to Fish in the past 2 years. Each time has gotten better In terms of the food. When we were there in the summer months we enjoyed the open air dining. This visit was even better than before related to the food. I chose the shrimp with grits and it was a delicious twist on the traditional prearation. I also loved the presentation and tastes of the Caesar salad! The only real drawbacks were the location of our table (directly in front of the kitchen) and the live music. The kitchen noises were persistent and loud and the music was also loud and not so enjoyable when you are trying to have a conversation at the table. It would have been nice for the band to turn down the volume until the dining hours were over. The place is small so it felt like we were in a vortex of bangs and clangs from the kitchen coupled with a private serenade from the band. Despite all of that, the food was exquisite. I’m looking forward to the opportunity to return for a quieter meal. I’ll be sure to ask NOT to be seated by the kitchen! Either put up a sound barrier or create bar seating to face the kitchen and watch the staff do their thing.
It’s a comfortable spot and the Jazz was nice. The food wasn’t inspired, especially the veggies with the haddock - huge chunky asparagus plus other non tender veggies. Haddock was fairly good—perhaps a little dry. Not much seasoning/flavor. White tablecloth on the table consisted of two or three pieces of stiff paper. Overall, pretty average.
Our 3rd visit. Very good. The couple beside us was drunk, loud and boisterous (not being kind to one another) which sullied the experience. The waitress (there was only two for the whole place) tried to quiet them.... LOVED the fried clams and oysters, as ever. We had a good time.
We were super excited to try Fish! I’ve heard great things about your restaurant and food. My husband and I don’t get out much so it was a much awaited date night! When we walked in 15 minutes ahead of our reservation, we were seated right away. Taylor our server greeted us soon afterward and we put in a martini order. She returned 5-10 minutes later saying the bar had run out of martini glasses and she would get them to us as soon as she could. We placed an order for 10 oysters and even after finishing those, we still didn’t have our drinks.
We then asked for an order of mussels. We were told that the kitchen was reserving the remaining mussels for the cioppino dish. We asked if we could place a half order versus ordering a third entree for the two of us. We were told we couldn’t. That was fine. Our drinks finally arrive and our martinis are in stemless wine glasses with ice. Not exactly what we ordered.
We placed our meal order and I have to say when that came out we were very pleasantly surprised. My tuna and my husbands halibut special were great.
It would have been nice had we been offered bread during our long drink wait. We watched all the other patrons around us dine and drink merrily.
Overall, the food was great. Taylor did the best she could, but I really wish there had been a little more finesse in our dining experience.
Great oyster selection, meals and drinks well prepared. We like the intimate setting for jazz on Saturday nights.
Food was absolutely fabulous! I had the Diver Scallops and they were prepared with delicious cremini mushrooms and pancetta. Delicious! Everyone at our table loved their meal and the service was outstanding.
