Fish Hopper Ratings and Reviews
I have eaten there a number of times, and the food is always good, and usually the service is good. Everything was per the norm, except for the service. This may have just been because of the particular waitress, and not necessarily reflective of the overall service provided by the restaurant. However, we ended up waiting quite a bit, always having difficulties getting refills on drinks, or even getting the final bill.
The food was just okay...not worth the $50/plate price tag. Service was tolerable. Odd they have a kids menu but no coloring/crayons. We never received Rolls like we saw the tables around us receive. Felt like the place had an identity crisis...expensive but super loud and attempting to be casual.
Really appreciated ease of making reservation and then getting seated immediately and without disruption. Definitely wouldn’t attempt to do a walk in during a holiday weekend, but it was so easy to make reservation online and then be seated to enjoy our experience immediately.
Food consistently amazing, service so wonderful, and drinks are on key.
Will return again!
Food was good. Unfortunately the appetizer, salads and entree all arrived at the same time - like literally. The server was accompanying dating when I requested he remove my salad as I did not want my entree and appetizer to get cold. Artichoke was pretty good. Blackened mahi mahi was also good. Excellent clam chowder. Great wait staff & beautiful ambience.
The food was pretty good. I really enjoyed the Macadamia Crusted Halibut paired with the sweet potato ring it sat on. My wifes food was good too. My only grips are 1: the Loaded Bloody Marry was $10 plus an additional $6 upcharge for three “Prawns.” I quote because all they really are where 3 boiled, large “jumbo” shrimps. Im a cook, i know the difference between jumbo shrimp and an actual large prawn. 2: The plate prices where a little steep. Both dishes were $37... i know a business needs to make money but 37 bucks for a dish that costs $4~$6... really?
I have been coming here with my husband for the last 3 years for our Valentines day outings. It is actually one of the places my parents would frequent when they were dating too. Always a pleasure. It was such a treat this year the outdoor dinning area was open for dinner. Such a lovely spot.
We had reservations, arrived early and were told that we could not be seated early despite dozens of open tables. We decided to have drunks at the bar (bad idea) the bar area was wet and sticky. We had to listen to all the bar tenders mimic/make fun of the only Hispanic bartender's accent. Every time the bar tender would say something one young lady in particular would mimic what he said and laugh. Very unprofessional and quite frankly just all out rude. Finally, our table is "ready" come to find out that our table is right next to the kitchen door. All night I could hear plates slamming and had to bear with waiters bumping into my shoulder every 20 minutes. That food was substandard. My salmon was over cooked. The only thing that was good on my plate was the mixed vegetable. Sadly, this was my first and last time to the fish hopper.
Dissapointed in how rushed we were. The place used to be more fancy for special occasions but new upgrade has turned into a tourist resteraunt and has lost its standout among the rest. Menu selection is not what it used to be as you can tell fresh fish is no longer served and wine selection very poor. Very dissapointed Ill choose Fishermans wharf for my choices next time.
We had a great dining experience at the Fish Hopper. My husband got the halibut and I the ahi tuna and both were delicious! So fresh! The service was impeccable. We had our 5 month old with us and those with young babies know that sometimes you have to eat quick before baby gets bored, and the food came very quickly so we were free to take our time, or head out if the babe got grumpy. The champagne by the glass choices could use an improvement, but other than that, it was awesome. We will definitely be going back.
My favorite restaurant in Monterey! The fresh fish and seafood here is incredible, always prepared perfectly with delicious sauces and generous portions. The Asian pork ribs are fantastic too. The wait staff is very friendly and attentive. All tables have an amazing ocean view as the restaurant is built on a pier over Monterey Bay at Cannery Row. You can see seals frolicking right outside the windows.
The view is breathtaking sitting over the water in Monterey bay. The food does not disappoint, delicious and a wide variety. Best of all a pleasant surprise as we came in. The young lady that sat us recognized that one in our party was a US Marine from his hat. I noticed as we were walking to the table she was carrying an American flag. She placed it on the table as she thanked him for his service. Then we were served a tasty shrimp appetizer on the house. So nice right. When we finished dinner a delicious chocolate bread pudding dessert arrived, also on the house. Needless to say the Marine felt 10 feet tall. Way to go Fish Hopper!! Semper Fi!!! Definitely recommend!
Went there for lunch on our anniversary - notified them ahead of time and we got the best table in the restaurant - amazing views. The restaurant was busy as it was a Saturday but the service was really good and we received a very nice complimentary Happy Anniversary desert - they made us feel very special and it was really appreciated. Great job!!
This restaurant was recommend by a friend. We were in Monterey visiting our daughter who is a MIIS student. I can't say enough about the food. It was the best! This will be our place every time we visit. Funny, her grandparents who live in Florida have also eaten here and look forward to another visit in may for graduation.
The service here was wonderful, and we had a great ocean view. The food was just okay. I ordered a lobster tail, I like the grilled taste but had to cut the lobster with my butter knife, was a bit tough. My spouse got fish and chips, small portions and left us needing to eat in our hotel later. My son ate a hot dog, for 3 of us to dine cost $100. Only one glass of wine involved. Lol. Again, great service, overpriced food. But I guess that's what you get when you eat at a tourist trap.
We were on Cannery Row for a romantic getaway. I'd made the reservation a week in advance. Our hostess seated us at what was arguably the most desirable table in the house: we were over the water, with a view of Monterey and the bay. The clam chowder was outstanding. The wine list included our favorite. Our server was attentive but never hovered. Highly recommended!
Nice views and festive atmosphere right on the water. Food was good, particularly the macadamia crusted halibut.
My son got a kid's menu spaghetti and meatballs that was tiny for $11. You can either give a small plate of food or you can charge $11 for a kid's meal of pasta, but you shouldn't do both. It was (modestly) better quality than a can of Chef Boy-ar-dee, but it wasn't more substantial.
What a huge disappointment! From the barely-there service, to the lackluster food, to the high prices, to the butter that was spilled down my husband’s expensive parka coat that the waitress chose to ignore... when we travel, we tend to pick one nice restaurant for a nice dinner out. Fish hopper was our choice. They clearly think they’re an upscale nicer restaurant, but the food is not up to par with what they charge, and our waitress was horrible. No eye contact, barely waited on us, we had to flag her down for everything, and I heard 3 other tables around us complain about their service as well. I didn’t find their chowder to be “award winning,” and I’ve had many a clam chowder in my day. My husband had the surf and turf for $54, and the steak was terrible, baked potato was a joke. At least the lobster tail was alright, but for the price? I had the blackened mahi mahi which was just ok in my opinion. To top it off, the waitress spilled the melted butter from my husband’s lobster tail all down his jacket and didn’t say anything!
